What is Round 5 BDS Counselling and Why It Matters

Round 5 represents the concluding phase of Punjab's NEET UG 2026 BDS admission process. After four rounds of counselling and allotment, BFUHS is conducting this final round to fill any remaining vacant seats across the state's dental institutions. This round is critical for candidates who either did not participate in earlier rounds, were not allotted a seat, or wish to upgrade their position.

The university has aligned this round with the schedule released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), ensuring consistency with national counselling timelines. Candidates who have not yet secured a BDS seat in Punjab should treat this as their last opportunity in the regular counselling process.

Key Dates for Round 5 BDS Counselling: Timeline You Must Follow

The counselling process spans just over a week, with strict deadlines at each stage. Candidates must complete all steps within the prescribed windows—missing any deadline will lock them out of that stage permanently. The university has made clear that no extensions or corrections will be entertained after deadlines pass.

  • November 3: Vacant seat positions displayed on BFUHS website
  • November 4–5: Online registration and payment of application fee + security deposit
  • November 5: Last date to edit or correct your application form
  • November 6: Provisional merit list published
  • November 7–9: Online choice filling (select college, course, quota, category)
  • November 10: Seat allotment processing and provisional result declaration
  • November 11 (up to 3 PM): Deadline to submit objections to allotment (in person only)
  • November 12–16: Reporting, document verification, medical exam, and final admission

How Many BDS Seats Are Available in Round 5?

After four rounds of counselling, only three BDS seats remain vacant across all of Punjab's dental colleges. This extremely limited availability reflects the high fill rate in earlier rounds and means competition for these final seats will be intense. Each of the three vacant seats is in a different college and under different categories or quotas.

The three colleges with vacancies are Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (Bathinda), Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College (Ludhiana), and Desh Bhagat Dental College & Hospital (Mandi Gobindgarh). Two seats are under the Management quota and one under the Government quota. Candidates should carefully review which seat matches their category and quota eligibility before filling choices.

  • Adesh Institute, Bathinda: 1 seat (Scheduled Caste, Management quota)
  • Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College, Ludhiana: 1 seat (Backward Classes, Management quota)
  • Desh Bhagat Dental College, Mandi Gobindgarh: 1 seat (General, Government quota)

Who Can Participate in Round 5? Eligibility Rules

Not all candidates are eligible for Round 5. BFUHS has clearly defined who cannot participate, and it is crucial to check your status before registering. If you fall into any of the ineligible categories, your registration will be rejected or your seat allotment cancelled.

  • You cannot participate if you have not registered for Round 5
  • You are ineligible if you have already joined or been allotted a seat in any previous round (Rounds 1–4 or the Stray Vacancy Round)
  • You cannot participate if you were allotted a seat in Round 3 or the Stray Vacancy Round but did not report to the college
  • Once you have joined a college in any round, you cannot surrender that seat to participate in Round 5
  • All other candidates who meet NEET UG 2026 eligibility criteria and have not been allotted a seat are eligible

Important Rule: No Seat Upgradation in Round 5

A critical restriction in Round 5 is that seat upgradation is not permitted. This means if you were allotted a seat in an earlier round and are now participating in Round 5 hoping to get a better college or category, you will not be allowed to do so. This rule applies strictly to all candidates. If you already have a seat, you must decide whether to keep it or withdraw entirely—there is no middle ground of upgrading to a 'better' option in this round.

Step-by-Step: How to Register and Fill Choices

Registration and choice filling are entirely online through the BFUHS counselling portal. The process is straightforward but time-sensitive. Once you register and your form is locked on November 5, you cannot make any changes—so verify all details carefully before submission.

  • Visit the BFUHS official website and access the Round 5 BDS counselling portal
  • Complete online registration by November 5 and upload required documents (NEET admit card, scorecard, ID proof, etc.)
  • Pay the registration fee and security deposit through the online payment gateway
  • Verify your provisional merit list on November 6
  • Log in again on November 7 and fill your college and course preferences in order of priority
  • Submit your choices by November 9 at the stipulated time
  • Check your provisional allotment result on November 10
  • If you have objections, submit them in person at BFUHS Admission Branch by November 11, 3 PM (with supporting documents)
  • Report to your allotted college between November 12–16 with original documents for verification and admission formalities

What Happens If You Have an Objection to Your Allotment?

If you believe there is an error in your provisional seat allotment result, you have until 3 PM on November 11 to lodge a formal objection. However, objections must be submitted in person at the BFUHS Admission Branch in Faridkot—email, post, or any other mode will not be accepted. You must bring all relevant supporting documents and records with your objection. After reviewing objections, BFUHS will publish a revised allotment result on November 11 if changes are warranted.

What to Do After You Receive Your Seat Allotment

Once you are allotted a seat on November 10, you must report to your assigned dental college between November 12 and November 16. During this period, the college will conduct document verification, medical examination, and complete your admission formalities. Failure to report within this window may result in forfeiture of your seat. Bring all original documents, including your NEET scorecard, 10th and 12th certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), and any other documents specified by the college.
