Methodology

How the NEET-PG rank predictor works

Most rank predictors use a made-up curve. Ours is calibrated on the real, published NEET-PG results — which is why it's accurate and honest about uncertainty.

Real published results

Built on NEET-PG 2024 & 2025 official marks-vs-rank data plus a 3,033-candidate state merit list — actual score→rank pairs, not a formula.

Two-cycle projection

We project your rank across both the tougher 2024 and the moderate 2025 curve, then pool-normalise to the ~2.3 lakh candidate pool expected in 2026.

Rebuilt for /720

Rescaled to the new 180-question, 720-mark pattern, with normalisation across the two 2024 shifts accounted for.

Validated to 0.4%

Cross-checked against thousands of held-out real ranks — ~0.4% median error through the middle of the range; toppers shown as a wider range.

NEET-PG counselling roadmap

Your predicted rank feeds directly into counselling. Seats split 50/50 between All India Quota and state quota, plus DNB.

All India Quota (MCC) — 50%

Round 1 → Round 2 → Round 3 → Stray. Decided on your All India Rank. Includes central institutes, deemed & DNB.

State Quota — 50%

Your home-state counselling, on state merit rank. Needs domicile; covers government & private colleges in your state.

DNB / NBEMS

Separate DNB counselling for hospital-based post-MBBS seats — a strong route at deeper ranks.

Tip: fill choices across both All India Quota and your state quota — many candidates get a better branch in state counselling than in AIQ, or vice-versa. Your domicile decides your state-quota eligibility.

FAQ

NEET-PG rank predictor — frequently asked questions

How accurate is this NEET-PG rank predictor?

It is calibrated on real NEET-PG score-to-All-India-Rank data from 2024 and 2025 (including a 3,000+ candidate merit list) and validated to within about 0.4% median error across the middle of the score range. Top ranks are shown as a wider range because a single mark can shift the rank by dozens near the top. Every prediction is a range with a confidence band — never one fake number.

Is NEET-PG 2026 really out of 720 marks now?

Yes. NEET-PG 2026 has been reduced from 200 questions (800 marks) to 180 questions (720 marks). The marking scheme is unchanged — +4 for correct, −1 for wrong — across five 36-question sections of 42 minutes each. Enter your score out of 720; our table also shows the equivalent /800 score to compare with older years.

What is a good score in NEET-PG 2026?

On the /720 pattern, roughly 480+ (≈ 533/800) puts you in strong contention for clinical MD/MS at government colleges; 540+ reaches most clinical branches; and 600+ (≈ 667/800) is topper territory for Radiodiagnosis, Dermatology and General Medicine. The General qualifying cut-off is the 50th percentile — about 248/720.

What is the NEET-PG marks vs rank for 2025 and 2024?

In 2025, roughly 600/800 gave an AIR near 2,800–3,000, 500/800 near 25,000, and 400/800 near 60,000, out of 2,30,019 candidates. In 2024 the curve was slightly tougher at the same score. The full year-wise marks-vs-rank table above shows both /720 and /800 columns for 2024 and 2025.

What rank do I need for MD Radiology, Dermatology or General Medicine?

By our 2025 AIQ data, MD Radio-Diagnosis typically closes around AIR 765 (top institutes within ~25), MD Dermatology around 1,450, and MD General Medicine around 1,780 — so you generally want 560+/720 (≈ 620+/800) for a comfortable seat. The branch-wise closing-rank table above lists the top, typical and looser closing ranks for every major MD/MS branch at All India Quota.

What is a category rank vs All India Rank?

Your All India Rank (AIR) is your position among all NEET-PG candidates. Your category rank is your position within your own reservation pool — SC, ST, OBC-NCL or EWS. Because each pool is smaller, your category rank is usually much better than your AIR, and most reserved-category counselling seats are allotted on category rank. The predictor estimates both.

What are the NEET-PG 2026 qualifying cut-off marks?

The qualifying percentiles are 50th for General/EWS, 45th for General-PwBD and 40th for SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD). On the 2025 scale that was 276, 255 and 235 out of 800 — roughly 248, 230 and 212 out of 720. NBEMS has lowered the cut-off percentile in recent years, so the final qualifying mark can drop further.

Does a higher score always mean the same rank each year?

No — the score-to-rank curve shifts with paper difficulty and normalisation. A tougher paper (like 2024, held in two normalised shifts) compresses scores; an easier paper spreads them out. That's why we show your rank under both a moderate (2025-like) and a tougher (2024-like) paper as scenarios.

How is the NEET-PG All India Rank calculated?

NBEMS ranks candidates by their (normalised) NEET-PG score. When the exam runs in multiple shifts, scores are normalised across shifts before ranking to keep it fair. Ties are broken by age. This predictor learns that score→rank relationship directly from the actual published results.

What is percentile in NEET-PG and how does it relate to rank?

Your percentile is the share of candidates who scored at or below you — a 90th percentile means you did better than 90% of the ~2.3 lakh candidates, i.e. roughly the top 23,000. Qualifying is percentile-based (50th for General), but seat allotment is by rank, so two people at the same percentile in different years can have different ranks.

How many candidates appear for NEET-PG?

About 2.28 lakh appeared in 2024 and 2.30 lakh in 2025; a similar ~2.3 lakh is expected in 2026. The predictor projects your rank onto that expected pool.

Does domicile / home state affect my rank?

Your All India Rank is national and does not change with domicile. But your home state decides your eligibility for the 50% state-quota seats, which are allotted on a separate state merit rank. Enter your domicile so we can point you to the right state counselling once the College Predictor is live.

How does NEET-PG counselling work after results?

50% of seats go through All India Quota (MCC) on your AIR — Round 1, 2, 3 and Stray — and 50% through your state's counselling on state merit rank. DNB/NBEMS runs its own counselling for hospital seats. Deemed and private seats are also allotted via MCC. Plan choices across all of these using your predicted rank.

Is the NEET-PG rank predictor free?

Yes — predicting your rank, category rank and percentile is completely free and needs no sign-up. The detailed college shortlist (which colleges you can actually get across MCC and every state) is a separate tool.

What should I do after I know my expected rank?

Use your predicted AIR and category rank to plan counselling: shortlist branches and colleges you can realistically get across All India Quota (MCC) and your state quota, and check round-wise closing ranks. The MedAdmit NEET-PG College Predictor turns your rank into an exact, filterable college list — coming soon — and you can book a free 1:1 counselling session in the meantime.
