Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU) has opened a stray round of counselling for MBBS admission under the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) quota for the 2026-27 academic session. Admission is merit-based on NEET UG 2026 scores. If you are an NRI and have qualified NEET UG 2026, you must register online between 18 and 21 October 2026, submit 16 specific documents, and join your allotted college by 26 October. This is a time-critical process with no extensions.

NRI candidates must register online by 21 October 2026 (5 PM), pay ₹4,500, submit 16 documents including passport, NRI certificate, and sponsorship proof, and join their allotted college by 26 October — no extensions allowed.

What is the NRI Quota and Which Colleges Offer It?

The NRI quota is a set-aside of seats in private medical colleges for Non-Resident Indian candidates. In Uttarakhand, 15% of the All India Quota (AIQ) seats at three private MBBS colleges have been earmarked for NRI students for the 2026-27 session.

The three colleges offering NRI quota seats are: (1) Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dehradun; (2) Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun; and (3) Gautam Buddha Chiktsa Mahavidayalaya, Dehradun. All three are private institutions in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Admission to these NRI quota seats is strictly merit-based on your NEET UG 2026 score. The university will verify your NRI eligibility using documents such as a foreign passport, Green Card, Permanent Resident Card, proof of foreign residency, or OCI/PIO card issued by the Government of India.

Who is Eligible for the NRI Quota?

To be eligible for NRI quota admission, you must: (1) have qualified the NEET UG 2026 exam; (2) meet all eligibility criteria set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Dental Council of India (DCI); and (3) comply with Government of Uttarakhand norms for MBBS admission.

You must also prove your NRI status. This means you or your sponsor (the person financially supporting your education) must hold one of the following: a valid foreign country passport, a Green Card, a Permanent Resident Card, an official proof of residency in a foreign country issued by a competent authority, or an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) or PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card issued by the Government of India.

The priority of allotment under the NRI quota will follow the conditions laid out in the Uttarakhand Government notifications dated 19 August 2026, 24 August 2026, and 27 August 2026. If there are not enough NRI candidates to fill all NRI quota seats, the remaining seats will be converted to All India Open Quota and allotted to other eligible candidates based on merit and choice.

  • Qualified NEET UG 2026
  • Meet NMC/DCI and Uttarakhand Government eligibility norms
  • Proof of NRI status (foreign passport, Green Card, Permanent Resident Card, foreign residency proof, OCI, or PIO card)

16 Documents You Must Submit — Complete Checklist

The university requires 16 documents to verify your eligibility and NRI status. Missing even one document can result in rejection of your application or forfeiture of your seat. Documents marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory; those without an asterisk are conditional (required only if applicable to you). Collect and organize all documents before you register.

The documents fall into four categories: (1) NEET and academic proof; (2) identity and age proof; (3) NRI and sponsorship proof; and (4) financial proof. Read the list carefully and note which documents you need to obtain or prepare.

All documents must be original or certified copies as per the college's requirements. The allotted college will verify all documents at the time of admission. If any document is found to be false, forged, or incomplete, your admission will be cancelled and you may face legal action.
