What is the Stray Vacancy Round?

The Stray Vacancy Round is the last and final counselling round for NEET UG 2026 in Uttarakhand. It is conducted to fill any MBBS and BDS seats that remain vacant after all previous counselling rounds (merit round, supplementary rounds, and any other earlier phases). This round gives candidates who were not allotted a seat in earlier rounds, or who did not participate, one final opportunity to secure admission.

Because this is the final round, the state has announced an important policy change: all reserved category seats (SC, ST, OBC, etc.) that remain unfilled will be converted to general seats. This means the seat matrix will change, and more general category seats will be available than in previous rounds. This conversion happens automatically as per Uttarakhand government policy.

Who Can Register for This Round?

You are eligible to register if you meet ALL of the following conditions:

You must have qualified NEET UG 2026 (i.e., you have a valid NEET score). You must comply with all eligibility norms set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for MBBS and the Dental Council of India (DCI) for BDS. You must also meet the eligibility criteria laid down by the Government of Uttarakhand. If you are claiming a reserved category seat (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.), you must have a valid original certificate issued by the competent authority proving your category. Candidates who have already registered in an earlier round of NEET UG 2026 counselling can register again, but they do not need to pay the security fee again if it has not been forfeited.

  • Qualified NEET UG 2026
  • Meet NMC/DCI eligibility norms
  • Meet Uttarakhand government eligibility criteria
  • Have original category certificate (if claiming reserved category)
  • Already-registered candidates: no need to pay security fee again (unless forfeited)

Registration Fee and Payment Method

The online registration fee is ₹4,500 for all candidates, regardless of category. This fee must be paid along with a security amount (the notice does not specify the security amount separately, so it appears to be included in or part of the ₹4,500 total). Payment is accepted ONLY through Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking—no cash, cheque, or other payment method is accepted.

If you have already registered in a previous round of NEET UG 2026 counselling and your security fee has not been forfeited, you do not need to pay the fee again. However, if your security fee was forfeited in an earlier round, you must pay the full ₹4,500 again to register in this stray round.

  • Fee: ₹4,500 (all categories)
  • Payment methods: Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking only
  • Already registered candidates: no fee if security not forfeited
  • If security was forfeited: must pay full ₹4,500 again

Important Dates and Deadlines

The stray vacancy round follows a tight schedule. You must complete all steps—registration, fee payment, and choice filling—within the registration window. Once the deadline passes, no late registrations or choice changes will be accepted. Mark these dates clearly in your calendar.

How to Register: Step-by-Step Process

Registration is entirely online. You will need to visit the official Uttarakhand NEET UG 2026 counselling portal (hosted by HNBUMU at www.hnbumu.ac.in) and follow these steps:

Log in or create an account on the counselling portal using your NEET roll number and other required credentials. Fill in your personal, educational, and category details accurately. Upload or provide proof of your category (if applicable)—this is critical; see the 'Critical Trap' section below. Pay the ₹4,500 registration fee using your Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking. After payment confirmation, you will be able to fill your choice of colleges and courses (MBBS or BDS). Select your preferred colleges in order of preference. Submit your choices before 5:00 PM on 21 October. Do not close the browser or navigate away until you see a final confirmation message.

The portal will generate a confirmation receipt after successful registration and choice submission. Save and print this receipt—you will need it for joining formalities.

  • Visit www.hnbumu.ac.in and log in to the counselling portal
  • Fill personal, educational, and category details
  • Upload category certificate (if claiming reserved category)
  • Pay ₹4,500 fee via Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking
  • Fill and rank your college choices in order of preference
  • Submit choices before 5:00 PM on 21 October
  • Save and print your confirmation receipt

Critical Trap: Category Certificate Requirements

This is the most common reason candidates are rejected from seat allotment. The notice explicitly states: 'Candidates who failed to produce the original certificate in support of reservation category will not be included in seat allotment process.' This means if you are claiming a reserved category seat (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.) and you do not upload or provide the original certificate during registration, you will be EXCLUDED from the allotment process entirely—even if you are otherwise eligible.

The certificate must be an original document issued by the competent authority (usually the District Magistrate or Tehsildar in your district). Photocopies, scanned images, or self-attested copies are not accepted. If you do not have your original certificate ready, obtain it immediately from your district administration before 21 October. If you cannot produce the original, you will be considered only in the general category, and you will lose your reserved category advantage.

Do not assume the portal will accept a scanned or digital copy. Bring the original certificate to the college at the time of joining for verification. If you cannot produce it then, your admission may be cancelled.

  • ⚠️ Original category certificate MUST be produced—photocopies not accepted
  • ⚠️ Without original certificate, you will be excluded from allotment entirely
  • ⚠️ Obtain certificate from District Magistrate/Tehsildar before 21 October
  • ⚠️ Bring original to college at joining—failure to do so may cancel admission

Reserved Seats Conversion: What It Means for You

Because this is the final round, Uttarakhand has announced that all reserved category seats (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.) that remain unfilled after this round will be converted to general seats. This is a one-time conversion that happens only in the stray round, not in earlier rounds.

What this means: If you are a general category candidate, you may find more seats available in this round than in previous rounds, because reserved seats that were not filled are now open to you. If you are a reserved category candidate, you should be aware that this is your last chance to secure a reserved seat—after this round, those seats will no longer exist. The conversion happens automatically per state government policy; you do not need to do anything.

This policy change makes the stray round particularly important for general category candidates who were not allotted in earlier rounds.

Result Declaration and Allotment List

The allotment result will be declared on 22 October 2026. You will be able to view your allotment status on the official counselling portal (www.hnbumu.ac.in). The portal will show which college and course (MBBS or BDS) you have been allotted, if any. If you are allotted a seat, the result will also specify the category under which you have been allotted (general, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.).

If you are not allotted a seat in this round, it means no seat matching your choices and eligibility was available. Since this is the final round, there will be no further counselling rounds for NEET UG 2026 in Uttarakhand. You may then explore options in other states or consider private medical colleges if applicable.

  • Result declared on 22 October 2026
  • Check allotment status on www.hnbumu.ac.in
  • Result shows college, course, and category of allotment
  • This is the final round—no further counselling after this

Joining the Allotted College: Deadline and Documents

If you are allotted a seat, you MUST join the college by 26 October 2026. This is a hard deadline. If you do not join by this date, your seat will be cancelled, and you will lose your admission. The notice does not specify a time, so it is safest to join as early as possible on 26 October or before.

At the time of joining, you will need to bring original documents for verification. Based on standard medical admission procedures, you should bring: your NEET admit card and score card, your 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates, your bachelor's degree certificate (if applicable), your category certificate (if claiming reserved category), your Aadhaar card or other government ID, and any other documents specified in the joining letter from the college. The college will provide a detailed joining letter with the exact list of documents required; check the portal or your email after the result is declared.

Failure to join by 26 October will result in automatic cancellation of your seat. There is no extension or grace period mentioned in this notice.

  • Joining deadline: 26 October 2026 (hard deadline)
  • Bring original NEET documents, certificates, and ID
  • Bring original category certificate if claiming reserved category
  • College will send joining letter with full document checklist
  • Failure to join by deadline = automatic seat cancellation

Frequently asked questions

Is this the last counselling round for NEET UG 2026 in Uttarakhand?

Yes. The Stray Vacancy Round is explicitly the final counselling round for NEET UG 2026 in Uttarakhand. After 26 October 2026, no further counselling will be conducted. If you are not allotted a seat in this round, you will need to explore options in other states or private colleges.

I registered in an earlier round but was not allotted. Can I register again in the stray round?

Yes, you can register again. However, if you already paid the registration fee in an earlier round and your security fee was not forfeited, you do not need to pay the ₹4,500 fee again. If your security fee was forfeited, you must pay the full ₹4,500 again.

What happens to reserved seats that are not filled in this round?

All unfilled reserved category seats (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.) will be converted to general seats as per Uttarakhand government policy. This conversion happens automatically in this final round only. After this round, those reserved seats will no longer exist.

I don't have my category certificate yet. Can I register without it?

No. The notice explicitly states that candidates who fail to produce the original category certificate will not be included in the seat allotment process. If you are claiming a reserved category, you must have the original certificate before registering. If you cannot obtain it by 21 October, you will have to register as a general category candidate and lose your reserved category advantage.

What payment methods are accepted for the ₹4,500 registration fee?

Only Credit Card, Debit Card, and Net Banking are accepted. Cash, cheque, or any other payment method is not accepted. Payment must be made online during registration.

What is the exact deadline for registration and choice filling?

Registration, fee payment, and choice filling must all be completed by 5:00 PM on 21 October 2026 (server time). After 5:00 PM, the portal will close, and no late registrations or choice changes will be accepted.

When will I know if I have been allotted a seat?

The allotment result will be declared on 22 October 2026. You can check your allotment status on the official counselling portal at www.hnbumu.ac.in. The result will show your allotted college, course (MBBS or BDS), and category.

What is the deadline to join my allotted college?

You must join your allotted college by 26 October 2026. This is a hard deadline. If you do not join by this date, your seat will be automatically cancelled. There is no extension or grace period.

Can the dates or rules in this notice change?

Yes. The notice states that rules and dates may be updated based on directions from the government, NMC, DCI, or Medical Counselling Committee. All updates will be posted on www.hnbumu.ac.in, and those updates will override this notice. You must check the website regularly for any changes.

What documents do I need to bring when joining the college?

You will need to bring your original NEET documents, 10th and 12th certificates, bachelor's degree certificate (if applicable), category certificate (if claiming reserved category), and government ID. The college will send a detailed joining letter with the complete list of required documents after the result is declared on 22 October.

I am a general category candidate. Will I have more seats available in this round because reserved seats are being converted?

Yes, likely. Because all unfilled reserved seats are converted to general seats in this final round, more general category seats may be available compared to earlier rounds. This makes the stray round a good opportunity for general category candidates who were not allotted previously.

What happens if I do not register by 21 October 5 PM?

If you do not register and submit your choices by 5:00 PM on 21 October, you will not be considered for allotment in this round. Since this is the final round, you will lose your chance to secure a seat in Uttarakhand for NEET UG 2026.

Register immediately on www.hnbumu.ac.in if you have not already done so. Complete your registration, pay the ₹4,500 fee, and submit your college choices by 5:00 PM on 21 October 2026. Ensure you have your original category certificate if claiming a reserved seat—without it, you will be excluded from allotment. Check the website regularly for any updates, and be ready to join your allotted college by 26 October. This is your final opportunity for NEET UG 2026 counselling in Uttarakhand.
