Unlock My College ListWhat Is the Stray Round and Why Does It Matter?
The stray round is the concluding phase of state-level counselling in Punjab. After earlier rounds of seat allotment, some positions remain vacant due to candidates declining offers, not reporting, or other reasons. The stray round gives merit-listed candidates a final chance to fill these gaps.
This round is critical because it is typically the last opportunity for NEET UG aspirants to secure a seat through state counselling in Punjab. Once the stray round concludes, any remaining seats are usually forfeited for that academic session. For candidates who have not yet been allotted a seat or who wish to upgrade their college choice, the stray round represents a make-or-break moment.

Why Acting Fast Matters in the Stray Round
The stray round is the final state counselling opportunity, and seats are limited. Once the round closes, any remaining vacancies are typically not filled through further counselling rounds in Punjab. This means that if you do not participate or if you delay your choice filling, you may miss out on a seat entirely.
Additionally, the number of available seats decreases as candidates register and make their choices. Popular colleges and programmes fill up quickly. By acting promptly—downloading the matrix, preparing your documents, and registering as soon as the window opens—you maximize your chances of securing a seat in a college of your choice.
- Stray round is the final state counselling stage
- Unfilled seats typically lapse after this round
- Popular colleges fill quickly during registration
- Delays reduce your chances of securing a preferred seat
- Prompt action increases your likelihood of success
Common Mistakes to Avoid During Stray Round Registration
Many candidates make preventable errors during the stray round that cost them their seat. The most common mistake is not downloading and reviewing the seat matrix in advance. Without this information, you may waste time during registration trying to identify available seats, or you may make uninformed choices.
Another frequent error is missing the registration deadline or the reporting deadline. Set multiple reminders and do not rely on last-minute notifications. Additionally, ensure all your documents are verified and ready before registration opens. Do not assume you can arrange documents after being allotted a seat—colleges have strict reporting deadlines and will not wait.
- Not reviewing the seat matrix in advance
- Missing the registration window deadline
- Failing to report at the college within the deadline
- Not having documents ready before registration
- Delaying document verification
- Ignoring updates on the BFUHS portal
- Making choices without understanding your eligibility
