Who Is Eligible for Punjab Round 3 Counselling?

BFUHS has defined four groups of candidates who can apply in Round 3. The first group includes those who did not receive any seat allotment in Round 1 or Round 2 of the counselling process. The second group comprises candidates whose earlier allotment was cancelled due to a change in their category status. The third group consists of candidates already reporting at an allotted college who now wish to upgrade to a better-ranked institution or course. The fourth group includes candidates who surrendered their seat after the security deposit was forfeited.

If you already hold a seat from Round 1 or Round 2, you do not need to re-register. However, if you fall into any of the four eligible categories above, you must register afresh. A special note: candidates applying under the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) quota have a separate deadline of October 1, 2026, at 2 PM to submit their applications.

Registration Fees and Security Deposit Amounts for Round 3

The registration fee you pay depends on your category and is inclusive of 18% GST. General category candidates must pay ₹5,900, while Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates pay ₹2,950. These fees are non-refundable and cover your participation in the counselling process.

In addition to the registration fee, you must submit a security deposit when you confirm your college preferences. The security deposit amount varies based on the type of college you choose. If you select only government colleges, the deposit is ₹10,000 for general candidates and ₹5,000 for SC, BC (Backward Class), and PwD (Person with Disability) candidates. If you select only private colleges, or if you select both government and private colleges, the deposit is ₹2 lakh (₹200,000). This deposit is refundable after you join and complete the admission process.

Critical Dates You Must Know

The counselling timeline is compressed into just two weeks, so marking these dates on your calendar is essential. Registration and fee payment opened on September 28 and close on October 2, 2026. The vacant seat matrix—showing which colleges and courses have available seats—was displayed on September 28 and remains live on the portal. The seat surrender window, during which candidates from earlier rounds can give up their seats, also closes on October 2 at 2 PM.

After registration closes, BFUHS will verify minority status claims by October 3 at 3 PM. The provisional merit list will be released on October 4, and you will have until October 5 at 4 PM to raise objections if you believe there is an error. The most important date for you is October 6–7, when you must fill and submit your college and course choices. Seat allotment processing happens on October 8–9, with the provisional allotment result announced on October 10. If you have objections to your allotment, you can raise them on October 11 until 3 PM; the final allotment result is also released on October 11. Finally, balance fee payment and college joining must occur between October 12–14, 2026.

Why Round 3 Is Your Final Opportunity

Round 3 is the last state-level counselling round before the mop-up (spot) counselling phase begins. If you have been waiting for a seat, did not get your preferred college in earlier rounds, or wish to upgrade from a lower-ranked institution, this is your final chance to do so within the structured counselling process. After Round 3 concludes, only mop-up counselling will remain, which typically has fewer seats and less predictability.

Missing the October 2 registration deadline means you will not be able to participate in Round 3 at all. This effectively closes your window for a guaranteed seat allocation in Punjab for the 2026 NEET UG cycle. Therefore, treating this deadline as non-negotiable is crucial for your medical or dental education plans.

How to Prepare and What to Have Ready

Before you begin the registration process, gather all required documents and information. You will need your NEET UG 2026 scorecard and admit card, your 10th and 12th mark sheets or pass certificates, a valid identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, or voter ID), and a caste certificate if you belong to a reserved category. Have a recent passport-sized photograph and your contact details (mobile number and email address) ready as well.

Check the vacant seat matrix on the BFUHS portal to understand which colleges have seats available in MBBS and BDS, and in which categories. This will help you make informed choices during the choice-filling stage. Ensure you have sufficient funds to pay both the registration fee and the security deposit before you begin registration. Set reminders for October 2 (registration deadline), October 6–7 (choice filling), and October 12–14 (joining deadline) so you do not miss any critical dates.

  • Keep your NEET UG 2026 scorecard and admit card ready
  • Gather 10th and 12th mark sheets or pass certificates
  • Have a valid identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID)
  • Prepare a caste certificate if applicable
  • Check the vacant seat matrix before registering
  • Ensure funds are available for fees and security deposit
  • Set calendar reminders for all key dates

What Happens After You Submit Your Choices

Once you submit your college and course preferences on October 6–7, the BFUHS system will process your choices against the available seats and your merit position. The provisional allotment result will be announced on October 10. At this stage, you will learn which college and course you have been allotted, if any. Review this result carefully and check if there are any errors in your name, category, or allotted seat details.

If you spot an error or believe the allotment is incorrect, you have until October 11 at 3 PM to file an objection. BFUHS will review objections and release the final allotment result on the same day (October 11). Once the final result is out, you must pay the balance fee (the remaining tuition and other charges after adjusting your security deposit) and report to your allotted college between October 12–14 to complete the admission process. Failure to report within this window may result in forfeiture of your seat.

Common Mistakes to Avoid During Registration

One of the most common errors is entering incorrect NEET UG details or uploading poor-quality document scans. Double-check your NEET roll number, score, and all personal information before submitting. Ensure all document scans are clear, legible, and in the correct format (usually PDF or JPG). Another frequent mistake is missing the registration deadline. October 2 is a hard deadline; late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Do not forget to submit your willingness and security deposit after paying the registration fee. Some candidates complete the fee payment but fail to confirm their participation, which invalidates their registration. Additionally, avoid selecting college preferences without first reviewing the vacant seat matrix and understanding your realistic chances of getting a particular seat based on your rank and category. Finally, keep your registration confirmation number and password safe; you will need them to log in later to fill your choices and check your allotment status.
