Unlock My College ListWhat is this seat vacancy list?
This is a provisional (temporary) list of seats that are available for allocation in the 3rd round of NEET UG 2026 counselling in Himachal Pradesh. It covers both MBBS and BDS courses at government and private medical and dental colleges in the state.
The list shows the total number of seats available at each college, and then breaks those seats down by three main quota categories: HP Quota (seats for Himachal Pradesh residents), Management Quota (seats filled by the college's own management), and NRI Quota (seats for Non-Resident Indians). Within each quota, seats are further divided by social category (General, SC, ST, OBC, Economically Weaker Sections, Physically Handicapped, and special categories like Children of J&K Migrants, Ward of Freedom Fighters, etc.).
This is called a 'provisional' list because the actual number of seats available may change. Some seats may become available due to upgradation (a candidate moving to a better college) or withdrawal (a candidate leaving the process) during the 3rd round itself. Therefore, you should base your preference choices on the categories and colleges shown here, not just on the exact seat numbers displayed.
Which colleges are included?
The list covers 11 medical and dental institutions in Himachal Pradesh offering NEET UG 2026 seats. These include both government colleges and private/deemed institutions. The colleges listed are:

Understanding the three quota types
Himachal Pradesh divides NEET UG counselling seats into three main quotas. Each quota has its own eligibility rules and its own set of seats. Understanding which quota you are eligible for is essential before you register your preferences.
HP Quota: These are seats reserved for candidates who are domiciled in Himachal Pradesh. To be eligible, you must meet the state's domicile requirements (usually proof of residence or birth in HP for a specified period). The number of HP Quota seats varies by college and course.
Management Quota: These seats are filled by the college's own management, not through the state counselling process. However, they are still listed here for your information. Eligibility and fees for management quota seats may differ from HP Quota seats. Check with the college directly for management quota application procedures.
NRI Quota: These seats are reserved for Non-Resident Indians (Indian citizens living abroad or holding foreign passports). To be eligible, you must meet the NRI definition as per the college's prospectus. NRI seats typically have higher fees than HP Quota seats.
Understanding the category breakdown within each quota
Within each quota (HP, Management, NRI), seats are further divided by social and other categories. These categories determine your eligibility for specific reserved seats. The categories listed in this document are:
General: Open to all candidates, regardless of caste or economic status.
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Reserved for candidates from economically weaker backgrounds, regardless of caste. You must have an EWS certificate issued by the competent authority.

Scheduled Caste (SC): Reserved for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste. You must have a valid SC certificate.
Scheduled Tribe (ST): Reserved for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Tribe. You must have a valid ST certificate.
Other Backward Classes (OBC): Reserved for candidates belonging to an OBC listed in the state's OBC list. You must have a valid OBC certificate.
Backward Area: Reserved for candidates from designated backward areas of Himachal Pradesh.
Physically Handicapped (PH): Reserved for candidates with a disability of 40% or more, as certified by a medical board.
Children of J&K Migrants: Reserved for children of families who migrated from Jammu & Kashmir.
Children of Tibetan Refugees: Reserved for children of Tibetan refugees.
Single Girl Child: Reserved for girls who are the only child in their family.
Ward of Freedom Fighters: Reserved for children of freedom fighters.
Wards/Wives of Defence Personnel: Reserved for dependents of defence personnel.
Widows/Wards of Ex-Servicemen: Reserved for widows and children of ex-servicemen.
IRDP/BPL: Reserved for candidates from Integrated Rural Development Programme or Below Poverty Line families.
How to read the seat vacancy table
The document presents seat vacancy data in a detailed table format. Each row represents one college. The columns show: the college name, the admission basis (NEET-UG 2026), the total number of seats, and then the breakdown by quota and category.
For example, if Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences shows 17 total seats, with 11 in HP Quota and 6 in Management Quota, it means 11 seats are for HP-domiciled candidates and 6 are for management quota. Within the 11 HP Quota seats, you will see further breakdown: perhaps 5 General, 0 EWS, 0 Backward Area, 0 Children of J&K Migrants, 0 Children of Tibetan Refugees, 2 OBC, 1 Physically Handicapped, 0 SC, 2 ST, etc.
A '0' in any category means no seats are available in that category at that college in that quota. If your category shows 0 seats at a college, you cannot be allotted a seat there in that category, even if you meet the merit cutoff. Always check the exact numbers for your category and quota before finalizing your preference list.
Important: These are provisional numbers
The notice explicitly states: 'Some seats may become available due to upgradation or withdrawal by candidates during the third round. Therefore, it is advised that candidates select their choices/preferences based on their choices/preference, not just on displayed seat vacancy status.'
This means the exact numbers shown here may change during the 3rd round. If a candidate who was allotted a seat in Round 2 upgrades to a better college in Round 3, their original seat becomes vacant and may be filled in Round 3. Similarly, if a candidate withdraws from the process, their seat becomes available.
Do not assume that a college with 0 seats in your category will remain at 0 seats throughout the round. Conversely, do not assume that a college with many seats will definitely allot you one. Use this list to identify colleges where your category has seats, and include them in your preference order. The actual allotment will depend on your rank, the merit cutoff for each college, and the choices of all other candidates.

Here is a summary of the total seats available at each institution in the 3rd round, to help you quickly identify which colleges have the most vacancies:
The largest number of seats are at H.P Government Dental College and Hospital, Shimla (23 total seats), Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College, Kumarhatti (37 total seats), and Dr Yashwant Parmar Govt Medical College, Nahan (7 total seats for MBBS). Several colleges show very few or zero seats available, such as Dr Rajendra Prasad Govt Medical College, Tanda (0 seats) and Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla (1 seat).
Remember: the number of seats available depends on how many candidates have already been allotted seats in Rounds 1 and 2, and how many have upgraded or withdrawn. Colleges with fewer seats in Round 3 may have had higher demand in earlier rounds.

What you must do before registering preferences
Before you log in to the counselling portal and register your preferences for the 3rd round, take these steps:
1. Identify your eligibility: Determine which quota you are eligible for (HP Quota, Management Quota, or NRI Quota). If you are unsure, check the counselling authority's website or contact AMRU directly.
2. Identify your category: Confirm which category you belong to (General, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Physically Handicapped, or other special category). Ensure you have the required certificate if you are claiming a reserved category.
3. Review the seat vacancy list: Go through this document and identify all colleges where your category has seats available in your eligible quota. Note down the college names and the number of seats in your category.
4. Check the merit cutoff: Once the 3rd round merit cutoff is announced, verify that your NEET rank falls within the cutoff for each college you are considering. A college may show seats available, but if your rank is below the cutoff, you will not be allotted a seat there.
5. Prepare your preference order: List the colleges in order of your preference. You can typically list multiple colleges. The counselling system will allot you a seat at the highest-ranked college in your preference list where you meet the merit cutoff and seats are available in your category.
6. Register and submit: Log in to the AMRU counselling portal at the scheduled time, enter your preferences, and submit. Do not miss the registration deadline.
Common mistakes to avoid
Mistake 1: Assuming a college with 0 seats in your category will have seats by the time you register. While upgradation and withdrawal can create new vacancies, do not rely on this. Always include colleges where your category already has seats.
Mistake 2: Not checking whether you are eligible for the quota. If you are not domiciled in Himachal Pradesh, you cannot apply for HP Quota seats. If you are not an NRI, you cannot apply for NRI Quota seats. Applying for a quota you are not eligible for will result in rejection.
Mistake 3: Forgetting to verify your category certificate. If you are claiming SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or Physically Handicapped status, ensure your certificate is valid and issued by the competent authority. An invalid or expired certificate will disqualify you.
Mistake 4: Listing colleges in the wrong order. The counselling system allots seats based on your preference order and merit rank. If you list a college you are less interested in before a college you prefer, you may be allotted the less-preferred college and lose the chance for the preferred one.
Mistake 5: Ignoring the 'provisional' nature of the list. Do not assume the exact seat numbers will remain the same. Use this list to identify colleges with seats in your category, but be prepared for the actual allotment to differ based on the final merit cutoff and other candidates' choices.
When and where to register
The notice does not specify the exact dates and times for 3rd round preference registration. You must check the AMRU official website (amruhp.ac.in) or the counselling portal for the 3rd round registration schedule.
Typically, the registration window is open for a few days. Once the window closes, preferences cannot be changed. Therefore, plan ahead, review this seat vacancy list carefully, and have your preference order ready before the registration window opens.

See My CollegesFrequently asked questions
What does 'provisional seat vacancy' mean?
Provisional means temporary or subject to change. This list shows the seats available for the 3rd round as of 1 October 2026, but the actual number may increase or decrease during the round due to upgradation (candidates moving to better colleges) or withdrawal (candidates leaving the process). You should use this list to identify colleges with seats in your category, but do not assume the exact numbers will remain unchanged.
I am not domiciled in Himachal Pradesh. Can I apply for HP Quota seats?
No. HP Quota seats are reserved for candidates who are domiciled in Himachal Pradesh. If you do not meet the state's domicile requirements, you are not eligible for HP Quota seats. You may be eligible for Management Quota or NRI Quota seats if you meet their criteria. Check the counselling authority's website for the exact domicile definition.
My category shows 0 seats at my preferred college. Does this mean I cannot get a seat there?
It means no seats are currently available in your category at that college in the 3rd round. However, seats may become available if other candidates upgrade or withdraw. That said, you should not rely on this. Include colleges in your preference list where your category already has seats available. If a seat does become available in your category at your preferred college, you may be allotted it, but this is not guaranteed.
What is the difference between HP Quota, Management Quota, and NRI Quota?
HP Quota seats are for Himachal Pradesh domiciled candidates and are filled through state counselling. Management Quota seats are filled by the college's own management and may have different eligibility and fee structures. NRI Quota seats are for Non-Resident Indians. Each quota has its own set of seats and its own merit cutoff. Check which quota you are eligible for before registering.
I belong to the OBC category. How do I know if there are OBC seats available at my preferred college?
Look at the seat vacancy table for your preferred college. Find the row for your quota (HP, Management, or NRI). Within that quota, locate the 'OBC' category row. The number shown is the number of OBC seats available. If it shows 0, no OBC seats are available in that quota at that college. If it shows a number greater than 0, that many OBC seats are available.
Can I change my preferences after I submit them?
The notice does not specify whether preferences can be changed after submission. Typically, once the preference registration window closes, preferences cannot be modified. Therefore, carefully review this seat vacancy list and finalize your preference order before submitting. Check the AMRU counselling portal for the exact rules on preference modification.
What if my NEET rank is below the merit cutoff for a college I have listed?
If your rank is below the merit cutoff for a college, you will not be allotted a seat there, even if seats are available in your category. The merit cutoff is determined by the counselling authority based on the number of seats and the number of eligible candidates. Once the 3rd round merit cutoff is announced, verify that your rank falls within the cutoff for each college you are considering.
I have an SC certificate, but it was issued 5 years ago. Is it still valid?
SC, ST, OBC, and EWS certificates are typically valid for life, but they must be issued by the competent authority. Check the certificate for the issuing authority and date. If you are unsure about its validity, contact the counselling authority or the college directly. An invalid or expired certificate will disqualify you from claiming reserved category seats.
How many colleges can I list in my preference order?
The notice does not specify the maximum number of preferences you can list. Check the AMRU counselling portal or the detailed counselling guidelines for this information. Typically, you can list multiple colleges, and the system will allot you a seat at the highest-ranked college in your preference list where you meet the merit cutoff and seats are available in your category.
When will the 3rd round allotment result be announced?
The notice does not provide the date for the 3rd round allotment result. Check the AMRU official website (amruhp.ac.in) or the counselling portal for the complete schedule, including preference registration dates, merit cutoff announcement, and allotment result dates.
I am an NRI. Which colleges have NRI seats available?
Look at the 'NRI Quota' column in the seat vacancy table. Colleges with a number greater than 0 in the NRI Quota column have NRI seats available. For example, H.P Government Dental College, Shimla has 2 NRI seats, and Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College, Kumarhatti has 23 NRI seats. Check the category breakdown within the NRI Quota to see which categories have seats.
What if I am eligible for both HP Quota and Management Quota?
You can apply for seats in the quota where you have the best chance of getting allotted. Typically, HP Quota seats have lower fees and higher competition, while Management Quota seats may have higher fees but different merit cutoffs. Check the counselling guidelines and the college's prospectus to understand the differences. You can list colleges from both quotas in your preference order, but the system will allot you a seat based on your rank and preferences.
This provisional seat vacancy list is your roadmap for the 3rd round of NEET UG 2026 counselling in Himachal Pradesh. Review it carefully, identify colleges where your category has seats, verify your eligibility for the quota, and prepare your preference order. Check the AMRU official website (amruhp.ac.in) for the exact dates and times for preference registration, merit cutoff announcement, and allotment results. Do not miss the registration deadline — once the window closes, you cannot register or change your preferences. If you have any doubts about your eligibility or the process, contact AMRU or the counselling helpline immediately.
