The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued Notice No. 17, dated 31 August 2026, opening a short window for a specific group of NEET UG 2026 candidates to resign the MBBS/BDS seat they were allotted in Round 1. This facility is only for 'Float' candidates — those who had accepted their Round-1 seat but had also chosen the option to be considered for upgradation in later rounds, rather than locking themselves into that seat. If you fall in this category and no longer want the seat you got in Round 1, this notice tells you exactly when and how to withdraw it without losing your security deposit.
Float candidates who accepted a Round-1 MCC seat can resign it online between 3:30 PM on 31 August 2026 and 1:00 PM on 2 September 2026 without losing their security deposit — but only if they generate the Seat Withdrawal slip themselves; otherwise the resignation is void.
What this notice actually says
During Round-1 seat acceptance, candidates choose between two options for their allotted seat: 'Freeze' (lock in the seat and exit counselling) or 'Float' (accept the seat for now, but stay in the pool to be considered for a better seat in later rounds). This notice is only for candidates who chose Float.
MCC is now giving these Float candidates a formal window to resign or withdraw the Round-1 seat they had accepted, if they no longer want to hold on to it. This is different from simply floating for an upgrade — resignation means the candidate is giving up the seat entirely.
The resignation window — exact dates and times
The window for resignation is short, so candidates must act within these hours only.
- Opens: 3:30 PM on 31 August 2026
- Closes: 1:00 PM on 2 September 2026
| Event | Date & Time |
|---|---|
| Resignation/withdrawal window opens | 31.08.2026, 3:30 PM |
| Resignation/withdrawal window closes | 02.09.2026, 1:00 PM |
How to resign the seat correctly — don't skip this step
MCC has made one point very clear: simply deciding to resign, or informing a college, is not enough. The candidate must log into their own MCC counselling account and generate the Seat Withdrawal slip online during the window given above.
If a candidate does not generate this slip online, the resignation will be treated as 'Null & Void' — meaning it will not count, and the candidate will still be considered to be holding the Round-1 seat, with all the obligations and risks that come with that (including possible forfeiture of deposit for non-joining or later withdrawal outside a valid window).
- Log in to your MCC counselling account.
- Locate the resignation/seat withdrawal option.
- Generate the Seat Withdrawal slip online — this is the only valid proof of resignation.
- Do this within the window: 3:30 PM, 31 August 2026 to 1:00 PM, 2 September 2026.
The money angle: security deposit is safe, but only if done on time
Normally, resigning or withdrawing a seat after joining can lead to forfeiture (loss) of the security deposit paid at the time of counselling registration.
This notice specifically states that if the resignation is completed within the stipulated window (31 August 3:30 PM to 2 September 1:00 PM), it will be treated as a valid, on-time withdrawal — and the security deposit will NOT be forfeited.
This is the key financial reason to act promptly: resigning after this window closes, or through any method other than the online Seat Withdrawal slip, could put the security deposit at risk.
Who this notice is NOT for
This facility is specifically for Float candidates from Round 1 of MCC's NEET UG 2026 counselling. It does not apply to candidates who chose 'Freeze' on their Round-1 seat, and it does not apply to candidates who never accepted a Round-1 seat at all.
Candidates who are unsure whether they selected Freeze or Float at the time of seat acceptance should check their candidate login/account rather than assume — the notice does not provide any alternative way to verify this.

See My CollegesFrequently asked questions
I chose 'Freeze' on my Round-1 seat. Can I use this resignation facility?
No. This notice applies only to Float candidates — those who accepted the Round-1 seat but chose to remain eligible for upgradation in later rounds. Freeze candidates are not covered by this notice.
What exactly do I need to do to resign my seat?
Log into your MCC counselling account and generate the Seat Withdrawal slip online. This must be done between 3:30 PM on 31 August 2026 and 1:00 PM on 2 September 2026.
What happens if I inform my college directly instead of doing it online?
The notice does not recognise any method other than generating the online Seat Withdrawal slip through your MCC account. If you don't do this online, your resignation is treated as 'Null & Void' — meaning it doesn't count at all.
Will I lose my security deposit if I resign now?
No. The notice states that resignation completed within the given window (31 August 3:30 PM to 2 September 1:00 PM) will be without forfeiture of the security deposit.
What if I miss the 1:00 PM deadline on 2 September 2026?
The notice only guarantees no forfeiture of security deposit if the resignation is done within the stated window. It does not describe what happens after the deadline, so candidates should not wait until the last moment.
Does resigning affect my eligibility for future counselling rounds?
The notice only covers the resignation process and the security deposit condition. It does not state anything about eligibility for later rounds, so candidates with further questions on this should check other official MCC notices or their counselling account.
Is this notice about All India Quota, state quota, or both?
This notice is issued by MCC, which conducts All India Quota and central institute counselling. It does not mention state counselling seats.
If you are a Float candidate who accepted a Round-1 seat and want out, don't delay: log in to your MCC account and generate the Seat Withdrawal slip well before 1:00 PM on 2 September 2026 to keep your security deposit safe. Keep checking your MCC counselling login and official notices for what comes next in Round 2.
