Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Telangana, has opened the second phase of web-based counselling for MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) admissions under the Competent Authority Quota for the 2026–27 academic year. This round is for candidates who were allotted seats in the first phase and have already joined their course — they can now exercise web options to move to a different college or speciality if they wish. The second phase is a 'sliding' round — a chance for candidates who already have an MDS seat from the first phase to move to a different college or speciality if they prefer. It is not a fresh counselling round for new candidates. Seats become available in this phase because some first-phase allottees may not join, or because candidates slide from their original seat to a better option.
The university will allot vacant seats based on the web options you exercise. If you are allotted a new seat in this phase, your first-phase seat is automatically cancelled and given to another candidate. This is why the university emphasises exercising options 'carefully' — you must be genuinely interested in any college or speciality you choose.
Who is eligible to exercise web options in the second phase?
You are eligible if and only if: (1) your name appears in the final merit list on the KNRUHS website, (2) you were allotted an MDS seat in the first phase of counselling, and (3) you have already joined the course at your allotted college. If you were allotted a seat in the first phase but did not report or have since discontinued, you are not eligible. If you did not exercise web options in the first phase, you cannot exercise them now — this rule is set by Government Order Ms.No.109, HM&FW(C1) Department, dated 22 August 2022.
In short: you must have a first-phase seat and must have joined it. If you meet these conditions, you are informed to exercise web options in this second phase.

Important dates: when to exercise web options
The web-option window is extremely short — only 24 hours. You can exercise web options from 2:00 PM (14:00 hours) on 29 September 2026 until 2:00 PM on 30 September 2026. After 2:00 PM on 30 September, the portal will close and you will not be able to submit or modify your options. There is no extension or grace period.
After you submit your options, the university will process them and allot seats. You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number if you are allotted a seat. You should also check the allotment status on the portal https://tsmds.tsche.in.

How to exercise web options: step-by-step process
Log in to the portal https://tsmds.tsche.in using your credentials (as registered during the first phase). You will see a list of available MDS specialities and colleges. Select the colleges and specialities you are interested in, in order of preference. There is no limit on the number of choices — you can select any number of specialities and colleges you are eligible for and interested in joining.

After you have selected all your choices, save them. The system will send a One-Time Password (OTP) — a six-letter code in English capitals (A–Z) — to your registered mobile number. Enter this OTP to confirm and lock your options. Print a copy of your saved options for your records. Do not use a mobile phone or tablet to exercise options — use only a computer with an internet connection.
Once you have submitted your options, you cannot change them. The university will then run the allotment algorithm and assign seats based on your choices, your merit rank, and seat availability. If you are allotted a new seat, your first-phase seat is automatically cancelled.

Fees: university fee and tuition fee
If you are allotted a seat in this second phase, you must pay the university fee of ₹35,000 online through the payment gateway (Debit Card, Credit Card, or Internet Banking). This fee is mandatory to download your allotment letter and complete the admission process. However, if you already paid the university fee in the first phase, you do not need to pay it again — the system will recognise your payment.
In addition to the university fee, you must pay the tuition fee at your allotted college. The tuition fee amount is set by the Government of Telangana and is notified in G.O. Ms.No. 124, HM&FW (C1) Department, dated 4 September 2026. The tuition fee is paid directly to the college, not through the online gateway. Once paid, neither the university fee nor the tuition fee will be refunded under any circumstances, even if you withdraw later.

Critical trap: what happens if you don't join after being allotted?
This is the most important rule to understand. If you exercise web options in this second phase and are allotted a seat, but then do not join the course at the allotted college, you will be permanently barred from exercising web options in any subsequent rounds of counselling. Your admission will be automatically cancelled, and you will lose all further chances to get an MDS seat in this academic year. This rule is strictly enforced to prevent 'seat blocking' — candidates holding seats they don't intend to join.
The university will verify your original certificates at the allotted college. If there is any discrepancy in your documents, your provisional allotment will be cancelled and action will be taken as per university regulations. You must report to the college before the last date specified on your allotment order with all original certificates, relevant bonds, and proof of payment of tuition fee. If you do not complete the admission process by the deadline, your admission is automatically cancelled and you lose eligibility for future rounds.

Seat matrix and available specialities
The details of vacant MDS seats in all affiliated Government and Private Dental colleges in Telangana are published on the KNRUHS website at http://knruhs.telangana.gov.in. This seat matrix shows how many seats are available in each speciality at each college. However, the notice advises you to exercise web options for all colleges and specialities you are interested in, even if the seat matrix shows zero or very few seats available. Why? Because vacancies will arise during the counselling process as other candidates slide from their first-phase seats to new seats. If you don't exercise an option for a college or speciality, you cannot be allotted a seat there even if one becomes available.
The allotment of seats will be made in accordance with existing Government orders and relevant Supreme Court and High Court orders. This means reservations (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), category-wise quotas, and other legal mandates will be applied during allotment.

If you are allotted a new seat in a different college in this second phase, you must collect all your original certificates, fees, and relieving order from your first-phase college before the joining deadline. You then report to your new allotted college with all these documents before the last date for joining specified on your new allotment order. The relieving order from your first college is essential — it confirms that you have formally left that institution.
Your first-phase seat is automatically cancelled when you are allotted a new seat, so you do not need to formally withdraw. However, you must physically collect your documents and obtain the relieving order to complete the transition.

Important instructions before exercising web options

Remember: there is no limit on the number of choices you can exercise. You can select any number of specialities and colleges you are eligible for.
