Fee Components: What You Must Pay

Every candidate admitted to an MD/MS course at these colleges must pay five separate components at the time of admission:

**1. Tuition Fee (per annum)** — This is the main course fee, payable for three years at the beginning of each academic year. It varies by specialty and college. For example, at Katihar Medical College, General Medicine tuition is ₹34,50,000/year, while Obstetrics & Gynaecology is ₹60,00,000/year. At Mata Gujri, Radio-Diagnosis is ₹50 lakhs/year. NRI candidates pay in USD (e.g., USD 66,450 for General Medicine at Katihar).

**2. Hostel Fee (per annum)** — Mandatory for all students. At Katihar and Mata Gujri, this is ₹3,00,000/year. At Narayan, it is ₹3,25,000/year. At Netaji Subhas, it is ₹3,50,000/year. Hostel accommodation is typically a one-bedroom flat with attached bathroom, balcony, and kitchen. If you stay beyond the course duration (due to exam failure or extension), you must pay additional hostel fees for the extra months.

**3. Student Amenities and Services Fee (per annum)** — Covers transport, sports, gymnasium, Wi-Fi, and other college facilities. At Katihar and Mata Gujri, this is ₹50,000/year. At Narayan, it is ₹75,000/year. At Netaji Subhas, it is ₹3,50,000/year (note: this is significantly higher). This is payable for three years (or two years if you hold a recognized diploma in the same subject).

**4. Security Deposit (one-time, refundable)** — A refundable amount deposited at admission. At Katihar and Mata Gujri, this is ₹3,00,000. At Narayan, it is ₹2,00,000. At Netaji Subhas, it is ₹2,00,000. This is returned after you complete the course, minus any dues (hostel damage, library fines, etc.).

**5. Admission Fee (one-time, non-refundable)** — At Netaji Subhas only, this is ₹2,00,000 and is not refundable.

  • Tuition fee: varies by specialty (₹2–60 lakhs/year for General category; USD 32,000–90,000 for NRI)
  • Hostel fee: ₹3,00,000–3,50,000/year (mandatory)
  • Amenities fee: ₹50,000–3,50,000/year
  • Security deposit: ₹2,00,000–3,00,000 (refundable)
  • Admission fee: ₹2,00,000 (Netaji Subhas only, non-refundable)
  • Mess/Hostel charges: ₹1,00,000–3,75,000/year (varies by college)

The total amount you pay at the time of admission is the sum of tuition fee (1st year), hostel fee, amenities fee, security deposit, and any one-time admission fee. This is NOT the total for the entire 3-year course—only what is due on day one. Here are examples from each college:

Sample total fees at admission for General category candidates at each college. NRI candidates pay tuition in USD plus hostel/amenities/deposit in INR.

NRI (Non-Resident Indian) Candidates: Separate Fee Structure

If you are an NRI candidate, your tuition fee is charged in US dollars (USD), while hostel, amenities, and security deposit remain in Indian rupees (INR). The USD amount is converted to INR at the exchange rate applicable on the date you make the payment.

For example, at Katihar Medical College, an NRI candidate for MD General Medicine pays USD 66,450 (tuition) + ₹3,00,000 (hostel) + ₹50,000 (amenities) + ₹3,00,000 (security deposit) = USD 66,450 + ₹6,50,000 INR.

At Narayan Medical College, an NRI for MD General Medicine pays USD 66,000 (tuition) + ₹3,25,000 (hostel) + ₹75,000 (amenities) + ₹2,00,000 (security deposit) = USD 66,000 + ₹6,00,000 INR.

Note: Not all specialties have NRI seats. Check the fee table for your college and specialty—if 'NA' or '—' is shown in the NRI column, that specialty does not accept NRI candidates.

  • Tuition fee for NRI: charged in USD
  • Hostel, amenities, security deposit: charged in INR
  • USD to INR conversion: use the rate on the date you pay
  • Not all specialties have NRI seats—check your college's fee table

Special Rules for Candidates with a Diploma Qualification

If you hold a recognized, valid, and relevant diploma qualification (e.g., DNB or PG Diploma) in the same subject as your MD/MS course, you must pay an additional tuition fee. This additional fee equals the tuition fee for three years of the PG Degree Course. This extra fee is payable in two equal installments during the commencement of the two academic years of your course, while the seat remains vacant during the additional year.

For example, if you are admitted to MD General Medicine at Katihar (tuition ₹34,50,000/year) with a diploma, you must pay an additional ₹34,50,000 × 3 = ₹1,03,50,000 in two installments (₹51,75,000 each) in years 1 and 2 of your course.

  • Diploma holders must pay tuition fee equivalent to 3 years of the PG Degree Course
  • This additional fee is paid in two equal installments in years 1 and 2
  • The diploma must be recognized, valid, and in the same subject

Stipend for Postgraduate Students

All postgraduate students at these colleges receive a monthly stipend (salary) paid directly to their bank account. The stipend rates are the same across all four colleges and are as follows:

**1st Year:** ₹82,000/month = ₹9,84,000/year

**2nd Year:** ₹90,200/month = ₹10,82,400/year

**3rd Year:** ₹99,220/month = ₹11,90,640/year

**Total stipend for 3-year course:** ₹32,57,040

**Average yearly stipend:** ₹10,85,680

This stipend is paid from the 2025-26 session onwards. The stipend is credited to your bank account and helps offset the cost of your course.

  • 1st year: ₹82,000/month
  • 2nd year: ₹90,200/month
  • 3rd year: ₹99,220/month
  • Total for 3 years: ₹32,57,040
  • Paid directly to your bank account

Important Notes and Conditions

**Fee Structure Subject to Change:** At Katihar and Mata Gujri Medical Colleges, the fee structure is subject to a condition: if the government or fee regulatory authority fixes the fee for 50% of seats at par with government medical college fees, then the fee for the remaining 50% of seats will be revised. This matter is pending in the Supreme Court (Writ Petitions No. 682 of 2022 and 646 of 2023), and the colleges are intervener petitioners. Students should be aware that fees may change if the court rules in favor of the government.

**Hostel Extension Charges:** If you stay in the hostel beyond the course duration (due to exam failure, extension of residency, or any other reason), you must pay additional hostel fees. The extended duration is divided into fractions of 6 or 12 months, and fees are payable accordingly.

**Prospectus:** All colleges have published detailed prospectuses on their websites with complete information on fee structure, terms, conditions, and other details. You are advised to read the prospectus before admission.

**Exam Fees:** Examination fees are as per university regulations and are separate from the fees listed here.

**University Registration and Examination Fees:** These are charged by the university (Al-Karim University for Katihar, Mata Gujri University for Mata Gujri, Gopal Narayan Singh University for Narayan, and Aryabhatta Knowledge University for Netaji Subhas) as per their regulations.

  • Fee structure may change if government fixes 50% seat fees at par with government colleges (pending Supreme Court ruling)

  • Read the college prospectus for complete terms and conditions
  • Exam fees and university registration fees are separate

Frequently asked questions

What is the total amount I need to pay at the time of admission?

The total amount at admission is the sum of: 1st-year tuition fee + hostel fee + amenities fee + security deposit (+ admission fee if at Netaji Subhas). For example, at Katihar Medical College for MD General Medicine, this is ₹34,50,000 + ₹3,00,000 + ₹50,000 + ₹3,00,000 = ₹41,00,000. This is only for the first year; you pay tuition again in years 2 and 3.

Can I pay fees in cash or by cheque?

No. All four colleges explicitly state that cash payment is not allowed. You must pay by Demand Draft, RTGS, NEFT, or online bank transfer only. After payment, you must submit the bank receipt with your PGMAC ID, NEET Roll Number, and name written on the reverse side.

What is the security deposit, and will I get it back?

The security deposit is a refundable amount (₹2,00,000–3,00,000 depending on the college) that you deposit at admission. It is returned after you complete the course, minus any dues such as hostel damage, library fines, or other college charges. If there are no dues, you get the full amount back.

Do I have to stay in the hostel, and is the hostel fee mandatory?

Yes, hostel fees are mandatory for all students at all four colleges. The hostel accommodation is typically a one-bedroom flat with attached bathroom, balcony, and kitchen. You cannot opt out of hostel fees even if you arrange private accommodation.

What is the Bank Guarantee / Bond, and why do I need it?

The Bank Guarantee or Bond is a guarantee from your bank that covers payment of tuition fees for years 2 and 3 of your course. You must submit it at the time of admission along with your 1st-year fee payment. It ensures the college that you will pay the remaining fees on time. Without it, your admission cannot be completed.

I am an NRI candidate. How much will I pay?

NRI candidates pay tuition in USD and hostel/amenities/security deposit in INR. For example, at Katihar Medical College for MD General Medicine, an NRI pays USD 66,450 (tuition) + ₹3,00,000 (hostel) + ₹50,000 (amenities) + ₹3,00,000 (security deposit). The USD amount is converted to INR at the exchange rate on the date you pay. Not all specialties have NRI seats—check your college's fee table.

I hold a PG Diploma in the same subject. Do I have to pay extra?

Yes. If you hold a recognized, valid, and relevant diploma in the same subject, you must pay an additional tuition fee equal to 3 years of the PG Degree Course tuition. This is paid in two equal installments during years 1 and 2 of your course. For example, if MD General Medicine tuition is ₹34,50,000/year, you pay an additional ₹1,03,50,000 (₹51,75,000 in year 1 and ₹51,75,000 in year 2).

Will I receive a stipend as a postgraduate student?

Yes. All postgraduate students receive a monthly stipend paid to their bank account: ₹82,000/month in year 1, ₹90,200/month in year 2, and ₹99,220/month in year 3. The total stipend for the 3-year course is ₹32,57,040. This helps offset the cost of your course.

What if I fail an exam and need to stay in the hostel longer?

If you stay in the hostel beyond the course duration due to exam failure or extension of residency, you must pay additional hostel fees. The extended duration is divided into fractions of 6 or 12 months, and you pay hostel fees accordingly for each period.

Are there any other fees besides tuition, hostel, amenities, and security deposit?

Yes. Exam fees are charged as per university regulations and are separate. University registration fees and university examination fees are also charged by the university as per their regulations. These are in addition to the fees listed in this notice. Check your college's prospectus for complete details.

Can the fee structure change after I am admitted?

At Katihar and Mata Gujri Medical Colleges, the fee structure is subject to change if the government or fee regulatory authority fixes the fee for 50% of seats at par with government medical college fees. This matter is pending in the Supreme Court, and fees may be revised if the court rules in favor of the government. Students should be aware of this possibility.

Which bank account should I use to pay fees?

Each college has its own bank account. Make sure you pay to the correct college account only. For example, Katihar Medical College uses State Bank of India account 37374395272 (IFSC: SBIN0010336). Mata Gujri uses SBI account 32307300760 (IFSC: SBIN0014659). Narayan and Netaji Subhas have multiple accounts with different banks. Check the fee notice for your college's exact account details.

If you are allotted a seat at any of these four colleges through PGMAC-2026 counselling, you must pay the fees listed in this notice at the time of admission. Pay only by bank draft, RTGS, NEFT, or online transfer—never in cash. Submit the bank receipt with your PGMAC ID, NEET Roll Number, and name written on the reverse side, along with a Bank Guarantee or Bond for the remaining years' tuition. Read your college's prospectus on its website for complete terms, conditions, and additional fees (exam, university registration). If you have questions, contact your college directly using the phone numbers and email addresses provided in the notice.
