Unlock My College ListWhat is this counselling round?
This is the 1st round of online counselling for admission to postgraduate (PG) seats in government medical colleges across Assam and B.B.C.I. (Barpeta Blind College Institute), Guwahati. The counselling is for 50% of available PG seats under the Assam State Quota for the 2026–27 academic session. This means half of all PG seats in these colleges are filled through this state-level counselling process; the other 50% are filled through national-level counselling (NEET-PG national counselling run by MCC).
The counselling is open to NEET-PG 2026 qualified candidates who are eligible for Assam state quota seats. This is a critical step — if you do not register and participate in this round, you cannot claim a PG seat in an Assam government medical college under the state quota.
Who is eligible to apply?
You are eligible if you have qualified the NEET-PG 2026 examination and meet the eligibility criteria for Assam state quota seats. Typically, this includes Indian nationals who hold a valid MBBS degree and have completed their internship. However, the notice does not detail the full eligibility criteria — you must check the earlier notification (DME/PG/2026/855656 dated 16 October 2026) or visit the DME Assam website for complete eligibility rules, including any state-specific residency or domicile requirements.
The notice refers to 'Assam State Quota' seats, which usually means seats reserved for candidates with Assam domicile or those meeting the state's specific eligibility norms. If you are unsure whether you qualify for Assam state quota, contact the DME Assam office or check the official website before registering.
Important dates — complete schedule
The notice provides a clear six-step timeline. All dates and times are in Indian Standard Time (IST). Mark these on your calendar and set reminders — missing even one deadline can disqualify you from this round.

| 1 | Online Registration for 1st Round Counselling | Extended up to 28 October 2026 (11:59 PM) |
| 2 | Online Filling of Choices | 29 October 2026 to 30 October 2026 (5 PM) |

| 4 | Processing of Seat Allotment | 31 October 2026 to 1 November 2026 |

| 6 | Reporting / Joining at Allotted Institution | 9 November 2026 to 10 November 2026 |
Step 1: Online registration — what you must do
Registration is now open and the deadline has been extended to 28 October 2026 at 11:59 PM. You must register on the official DME Assam website (www.dme.assam.gov.in) before this time. Do not delay — the portal will close automatically at 11:59 PM, and late registrations will not be accepted.
During registration, you will need to provide your NEET-PG roll number, score, and other personal details. Ensure all information is accurate and matches your NEET-PG admit card and MBBS degree certificate. After registration, you will receive a login ID and password — save these securely, as you will need them to fill and lock your choices.

Step 2: Filling your choice of colleges and specialties
After registration, you will be able to fill your choices of colleges and postgraduate specialties (MD, MS, PG Diploma, DNB broad-speciality). The choice-filling window opens on 29 October 2026 and closes on 30 October 2026 at 5 PM. You can rank the available colleges and specialties in order of your preference — the system will use this ranking during allotment.
It is crucial to fill your choices thoughtfully. Research each college, its location, infrastructure, and the specialties offered. You can fill as many choices as you wish, but rank them in genuine order of preference. The allotment algorithm will try to match you to the highest-ranked choice for which you are eligible based on your NEET-PG score and category.
- Log in using your registration credentials
- View the list of participating colleges and available specialties
- Rank colleges and specialties in order of preference
- You can add, edit or remove choices until 30 October 5 PM
- Save your choices regularly to avoid loss of data
Step 3: Locking your choices — the critical deadline
After filling your choices, you must lock them. Locking means confirming your final choice list — once locked, you cannot edit or add more choices. The locking window is 30 October 2026 from 4 PM to 11:55 PM. If you do not lock your choices by 11:55 PM on 30 October, the system will automatically lock your choices at that time. However, it is safer to lock manually before the deadline to avoid any technical issues.
⚠️ TRAP: If you do not lock your choices, the system will lock whatever you have filled so far. If you have filled only a few choices or left the form incomplete, you will be allotted only from those incomplete choices. Always review your full choice list and lock it intentionally before the deadline.
- Log in on 30 October between 4 PM and 11:55 PM
- Review your complete choice list one final time
- Click the 'Lock Choices' button
- You will receive a confirmation message — save or screenshot it
- After locking, you cannot make any changes
Step 4: Seat allotment processing
After the choice-locking deadline, the DME Assam will process all registrations and locked choices. The allotment processing will take place from 31 October 2026 to 1 November 2026. During this period, the system will run the allotment algorithm, which matches candidates to seats based on their NEET-PG score, category, choice ranking, and seat availability. You cannot do anything during this period — just wait for the result.
The allotment is merit-based and follows the order of your preferences. If you are eligible for your 1st choice college and specialty, you will be allotted there. If not, the system will try your 2nd choice, and so on. The final allotment list will be published on 2 November 2026.
Step 5: Result declaration and allotment list
The allotment result will be declared on 2 November 2026. You must log in to the DME Assam website using your registration credentials to check your allotment. The result will show the college and specialty to which you have been allotted, along with the modality of admission (e.g., general merit, reserved category, etc.).
If you are allotted a seat, you must report to the allotted college for joining between 9 November 2026 and 10 November 2026. If you are not allotted in this round, you may be eligible for subsequent rounds (2nd round, 3rd round, etc.) if they are conducted. Check the DME Assam website for information on further rounds.

Step 6: Reporting and joining at your allotted college
If you are allotted a seat, you must report to the allotted college between 9 November 2026 and 10 November 2026 to complete the admission process. Reporting means physically visiting the college (or following the college's online reporting procedure if specified) and submitting your original documents for verification. The college will verify your MBBS degree, NEET-PG score, category certificate (if applicable), and other eligibility documents.
⚠️ TRAP: If you do not report within the specified dates (9–10 November), your seat will be cancelled and offered to the next eligible candidate. There is usually no extension for reporting — mark these dates firmly and plan your travel in advance. Bring all original documents, a copy of your allotment letter, and any other documents the college specifies.
- Collect all original documents (MBBS degree, NEET-PG admit card, score card, category certificate if applicable, ID proof, address proof)
- Travel to the allotted college by 9 November 2026
- Report to the admission office and submit documents
- Complete the verification process
- Pay any admission fees as directed by the college
- Obtain your admission confirmation letter
Documents you will need
The notice does not provide a detailed list of required documents. However, based on standard PG counselling practice, you will typically need the following. Prepare these in advance so you are not caught off guard during registration or reporting.
⚠️ CRITICAL: The notice does not specify which documents must be original, which can be copies, or any specific format requirements (e.g., attested, notarized). Before reporting, contact the allotted college or check the DME Assam website for the exact document checklist and format. Submitting the wrong document type or format can delay or reject your admission.

Assam state quota — what it means
This counselling is for 50% of PG seats under the Assam State Quota. The state quota is a set of seats reserved for candidates who meet the state's eligibility criteria, typically including domicile or residency requirements. The other 50% of seats are filled through national-level counselling (NEET-PG national counselling run by MCC), which is open to all Indian candidates regardless of state.
If you are eligible for Assam state quota, you should participate in this state counselling. You may also be eligible to participate in the national counselling for the remaining 50% of seats. Check the MCC website and the DME Assam website for details on whether you can participate in both counsellings and how to manage multiple allotments.
