What is this list and why does it matter?

The Participating Institutes List is the official directory published by West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) of every medical college, hospital and institute in West Bengal that will offer postgraduate medical seats during NEET PG 2026 counselling. This list is your roadmap: it tells you exactly which institutions are in the counselling pool, where they are located, and whom to contact.

If an institute is NOT on this list, it will NOT participate in NEET PG 2026 counselling — you cannot apply for seats there through the state counselling process. Conversely, every institute on this list is confirmed to have seats available for allocation during counselling rounds. This list is therefore essential for planning your choices and understanding the full scope of opportunities available to you in West Bengal.

Types of institutes on the list

The list includes four categories of medical institutions: (1) State Government medical colleges and hospitals — including district medical colleges, sub-divisional hospitals, and specialty hospitals run by the West Bengal government; (2) Central Government institutes — such as AIIHPH (All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health), Command Hospital EC Alipore, and ESI PGIMSR Joka; (3) Private University/Institute medical colleges — including IQ City Medical College Durgapur, KPC Medical College, ICARE Haldia, and others; and (4) Specialty institutes — such as School of Tropical Medicine Kolkata, Institute of Child Health Kolkata, and Dr. B.C. Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences.

Each category may have different seat allocations, fee structures and eligibility rules during counselling. State government institutes typically have the largest number of seats and are often more affordable; central government institutes have limited seats but high prestige; private institutes have fewer seats but may offer specialized programs. Understanding which category your preferred institute falls into will help you plan your choice strategy.

  • State Government: medical colleges, district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, specialty hospitals
  • Central Government: AIIHPH, Command Hospital, ESI PGIMSR, ESIC Medical College
  • Private University/Institute: IQ City, KPC Medical College, ICARE Haldia, GIMS Durgapur, JIMS Budge Budge, SRIMS & Sanaka, JIS School of Medical Science
  • Specialty Institutes: School of Tropical Medicine, Institute of Child Health, Dr. B.C. Roy PGIPS, Infectious Diseases & Beliaghata General Hospital

How to use this list to plan your choices

During NEET PG 2026 counselling, you will be asked to rank your preferred institutes and specialties in order of choice. This list helps you identify which institutes offer which specialties, their locations, and their contact details. Before counselling begins, you should: (1) identify 10–20 institutes from this list that interest you based on location, reputation, and specialty availability; (2) note their abbreviations (e.g., IPGMER, R G KAR MC, NBMCH) — these abbreviations will appear in the counselling portal; (3) save the contact details of the heads of department or principals so you can reach out with questions about seat availability, fees, or hostel facilities.

The list is organized alphabetically by institute name, making it easy to search. Each entry includes the institute's full name, abbreviation, type (government/private/central), complete address, contact phone number, email, head's name and designation. Use this information to cross-check institutes you are considering and to verify that they are indeed participating in NEET PG 2026 counselling.

  • Identify 10–20 institutes of interest from the list
  • Note the abbreviation of each institute (used in the counselling portal)
  • Save contact details of the principal or head of department
  • Verify the institute type (government/private/central) to understand seat allocation and fees
  • Check the address and location to assess feasibility
  • Reach out to institutes before counselling to ask about seat availability in your specialty

These colleges typically have the highest number of seats, the lowest fees, and strong academic reputations. They are highly competitive during counselling. In addition to full medical colleges, the list includes numerous district hospitals and sub-divisional hospitals across West Bengal that also offer postgraduate seats in various specialties — these are often less competitive but still provide quality training.

Additionally, several specialty institutes participate in counselling: Institute of Child Health (ICH) Kolkata for pediatrics, Dr. B.C. Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences (BCRPGIPS) for pediatrics, Infectious Diseases and Beliaghata General Hospital (ID & BG Hospital) for infectious diseases, and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan College of Obs. Verify the exact fee structure, seat availability, and admission terms with each private institute before finalizing your choices.

These hospitals are spread across all districts of West Bengal and offer seats in general specialties like Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, and sometimes in super-specialty fields. They are often less competitive than major medical colleges but provide excellent clinical training and exposure. If you are open to working in smaller towns or district-level healthcare, these hospitals are valuable options. Contact the superintendent or reporting official at each hospital to understand seat availability and specialty offerings.

How to contact institutes and verify information

Each institute on the list has been provided with a contact phone number and email address. Use these to reach out directly with questions about postgraduate seat availability, specialty offerings, fee structure, hostel facilities, or any other information you need. The list also includes the name and designation of the head of the institute (principal, director, dean, or reporting official) — this person is responsible for postgraduate admissions and can provide authoritative information.

Before counselling begins, it is advisable to contact at least your top 5–10 choices to confirm: (1) the number of postgraduate seats available in your specialty; (2) the fee structure (for private institutes); (3) hostel availability and accommodation costs; (4) the application process and any institute-specific requirements; (5) the expected joining date and duration of the program. This groundwork will help you make informed choices during counselling and avoid surprises after allotment.

  • Use the phone number and email provided for each institute
  • Ask to speak with the principal, dean, or head of postgraduate studies
  • Confirm the number of seats in your specialty
  • Verify the fee structure (especially for private institutes)
  • Ask about hostel availability and accommodation costs
  • Clarify any institute-specific admission requirements or documents
  • Ask about the expected joining date and program duration
  • Request information about faculty, infrastructure, and clinical exposure

Important: This list is for NEET PG 2026 counselling only

This Participating Institutes List is specific to NEET PG 2026 postgraduate medical counselling in West Bengal. It covers MD, MS, PG Diploma and DNB broad-speciality seats offered through the state counselling process. It does NOT include: (1) super-speciality seats (DM, M.Ch, DrNB) — those are allocated through a separate NEET-SS counselling process; (2) dental postgraduate seats (MDS) — those are allocated through NEET-MDS counselling; (3) seats filled through direct recruitment or private management quota outside the counselling process.

Additionally, this list is current as of the date of publication. Institutes may be added or removed from the list before or during the counselling process due to regulatory changes, infrastructure updates, or other reasons. Always verify the current status of an institute with WBMCC or the institute itself before finalizing your choices. Do not assume that an institute on this list will definitely have seats in your preferred specialty — seat availability varies by specialty and round.

  • This list covers MD, MS, PG Diploma and DNB broad-speciality seats only
  • Super-speciality seats (DM, M.Ch, DrNB) are allocated through NEET-SS, not NEET-PG
  • Dental postgraduate seats (MDS) are allocated through NEET-MDS, not NEET-PG
  • This list does not include seats filled through direct recruitment or private management quota
  • Verify the current status of each institute with WBMCC before counselling
  • Seat availability varies by specialty and counselling round

What types of institutes are on this list?

The list includes four types of institutes: (1) State Government medical colleges and hospitals — including district medical colleges, sub-divisional hospitals, and specialty hospitals; (2) Central Government institutes — such as AIIHPH, Command Hospital EC, and ESI PGIMSR Joka; (3) Private University/Institute medical colleges — such as IQ City, KPC Medical College, and ICARE Haldia; and (4) Specialty institutes — such as School of Tropical Medicine and Institute of Child Health.

Can I apply for super-speciality seats (DM, M.Ch, DrNB) through this list?

No. This list is for broad-speciality postgraduate seats (MD, MS, PG Diploma, DNB) only. Super-speciality seats (DM, M.Ch, DrNB) are allocated through a separate NEET-SS counselling process and are not included in this list. Check the NEET-SS counselling portal for super-speciality institutes.

Can I apply for dental postgraduate seats (MDS) through this list?

No. This list covers medical postgraduate seats only. Dental postgraduate seats (MDS) are allocated through NEET-MDS counselling, which is a separate process. This list does not include dental colleges or MDS seats.

How should I use this list to plan my choices for counselling?

Before counselling begins, identify 10–20 institutes from this list that interest you based on location, reputation, and specialty availability. Note their abbreviations (which will appear in the counselling portal), save their contact details, and reach out to the principal or head of department to ask about seat availability in your specialty. During counselling, rank your preferred institutes in order of choice. This groundwork will help you make informed decisions during the counselling process.

What information is provided for each institute on the list?

For each institute, the list provides: (1) the full name of the institute; (2) its abbreviation (used in the counselling portal); (3) the type (government, private, central); (4) the complete address; (5) a contact phone number; (6) an email address; and (7) the name and designation of the head of the institute (principal, director, dean, or reporting official). Use this information to contact institutes and verify details before counselling.

Are all institutes on this list guaranteed to have seats in my specialty?

No. Seat availability varies by specialty and counselling round. Just because an institute is on this list does not mean it will have seats in your preferred specialty. Before counselling, contact your preferred institutes directly to confirm the number of seats available in your specialty. This information is crucial for planning your choices.

Can I contact the institutes directly to ask about seat availability and fees?

Yes, absolutely. Each institute on the list has a phone number and email address. Contact the principal, dean, or head of postgraduate studies to ask about: (1) the number of seats in your specialty; (2) the fee structure (especially for private institutes); (3) hostel availability and costs; (4) any institute-specific admission requirements; and (5) the expected joining date. This information will help you make informed choices during counselling.

What should I do if an institute I want to apply to is not on this list?

If an institute is not on this list, it is not participating in NEET PG 2026 counselling in West Bengal. You cannot apply for seats there through the state counselling process. However, the institute may offer seats through other mechanisms (such as direct recruitment or private management quota) — contact the institute directly to inquire about alternative admission pathways.

Will this list be updated before or during counselling?

It is possible that the list may be updated before or during the counselling process due to regulatory changes, infrastructure updates, or other reasons. Always verify the current status of an institute with WBMCC or the institute itself before finalizing your choices. Check the official WBMCC website regularly for any updates to the participating institutes list.

How do I know which institutes are government and which are private?

The list clearly indicates the type of each institute in the 'Institute Type' column. Institutes are labeled as 'State Government', 'Central Government', or 'Private University/Institute'. Government institutes typically have more seats, lower fees, and are highly competitive. Private institutes have fewer seats, higher fees, but may offer specialized programs. Use this information to plan your choice strategy.

This Participating Institutes List is your essential reference for NEET PG 2026 counselling in West Bengal. Save this list and use it to identify your preferred institutes, note their contact details, and reach out to confirm seat availability in your specialty before counselling begins. Remember that this list covers broad-speciality seats (MD, MS, PG Diploma, DNB) only — super-speciality and dental seats are allocated through separate counselling processes. For the most current information, visit the official WBMCC website or contact the institutes directly.
