Candidate Type Decides Which Seats You Can Choose
The most important column for choice filling is 'Candidate Type'. This is not the same as your reservation category — it tells you which pool of seats you are allowed to select from during choice filling.
Three Candidate Types appear in the list:
Getting this wrong is a common trap: a candidate whose Candidate Type is 'Private Management Only' who tries to select a government college seat, or a State Quota candidate who tries to select an NRI-quota seat, risks their choice being invalid.
- State Quota — the candidate is eligible for seats filled through West Bengal's own state counselling process, which covers most government medical/dental college seats.
- Private Management Only — the candidate can only choose management-quota seats at private medical/dental colleges, not government college seats.
- NRI Quota — the candidate is eligible only for NRI-category seats, which are a separate, limited pool typically available at private institutions.
Category and PwD Status Shown
The 'Category' column records each candidate's reservation status as held in WBMCC's records — the list shows entries under General, General-EWS (Economically Weaker Section), Other Backward Class (OBC), Schedule Caste (SC), and Schedule Tribe (ST).
The 'PwD Status' column shows whether a candidate is recorded as a Person with Disability; almost all entries show 'No', with a small number marked 'PwD'.
Candidates should check that their own category and PwD status are recorded correctly on this list, since these fields determine which reserved seats a candidate can be considered for during allotment. If either is wrong, it should be flagged to WBMCC — this notice does not itself describe a correction procedure, so candidates should follow whatever grievance process WBMCC has published separately on its portal.
Why 'Provisional' and 'Revised' Both Matter
'Provisional' means this list is not final — it can still be corrected or updated before Round 1 choice filling closes. 'Revised' means WBMCC has already replaced at least one earlier version of this list with this one.
Practically, this means candidates should not rely on any older list or a saved/cached copy — only the most recently published version on the official WBMCC portal should be treated as current.
