WB NEET UG 2026: NRI Candidates Who Missed the NRI Choice in Round 1 Can Request a Registration Reset — WBMCC Notice

WBMCC has issued an urgent notice for WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counselling 2026 allowing candidates who registered as NRI in Round 1 but forgot to select NRI-category choices to email a request for resetting their registration. The fix applies only during Round 1 and only from the email ID recorded at the time of NEET exam registration.

The Directorate of Medical Education, Government of West Bengal, has issued an urgent notice dated 27 August 2026 for candidates in the WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counselling 2026. It addresses a specific problem: some candidates registered themselves under the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) category during online registration for Round 1, but by mistake did not go on to fill their choices as NRI candidates. WBMCC is now allowing these candidates to write in and get their registration reset so they can correct it. This is a corrective mechanism, not a new registration window — it fixes an error made during the ongoing Round 1 process.

If you registered as an NRI candidate in Round 1 but forgot to fill your choices as NRI, you must email a signed request letter to wbnricounseling2025@gmail.com — but only during the Round 1 admission dates; this facility will not be available in Stray Vacancy round or any later round.

What exactly went wrong

During online registration for Round 1 of WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counselling 2026, some candidates ticked or selected the NRI category. However, when it came to filling their actual choices (the list of colleges/courses they want to be considered for), these candidates did not fill their choices in a way consistent with being an NRI candidate.

WBMCC calls this an 'inadvertent mistake' by the candidate. Because the choice-filling did not match the NRI registration, such candidates would not be correctly considered under the NRI category unless the error is fixed.

Who this notice applies to

This notice is only for candidates who registered as NRI during Round 1 online registration of WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counselling 2026 and did not fill their choices as NRI accordingly. It does not apply to candidates who are not registered under the NRI category, or to any mistake other than this specific NRI choice-filling issue.

How to request the correction — step by step

Affected candidates must send a request letter by email. The notice is specific about the format and channel, and any deviation could mean the request is not accepted.

  • The request letter must be addressed to: The Director of Medical Education, Swasthya Bhavan.
  • The letter must be a signed PDF document — not a plain email text, and not an unsigned document.
  • The email must be sent only to the designated address: wbnricounseling2025@gmail.com.
  • The email must be sent only from the email ID that the candidate mentioned/registered at the time of the NEET exam — sending from any other email ID is not acceptable.
  • The letter should request initialization (reset) of the registration details submitted earlier, so the candidate can freshly resubmit their candidate details.

What happens after the reset is approved

Once the registration is initialized, the candidate is expected to go through the process again correctly:

This means the candidate effectively restarts the paid steps of registration for the applicable round — so budget for the fresh fee and deposit before sending the request.

  • Freshly re-submit the candidate details.
  • Pay the fresh counselling fee.
  • Pay the required security deposit money, as specified in the Notice cum Information Bulletin for the counselling (as applicable to the candidate's category).
  • Download the candidate profile letter, which is needed for allotment of the verification centre.
  • Important: this reset facility is applicable only from the next round onward — it does not instantly fix Round 1 itself; the corrected registration takes effect starting from the round following the reset.

The traps every affected candidate must avoid

This notice comes with strict conditions. Missing any one of these could mean the request is rejected or the candidate loses the chance to correct the error.

  • ⚠️ Timing trap: The request email is accepted only on the dates of the admission process of Round 1 of WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counselling 2026 — the same round in which the mistake was made. Requests sent outside these Round 1 dates will not be accepted.
  • ⚠️ No second chance in later rounds: This facility is NOT available in the Stray Vacancy round or in any round after that. If a candidate misses the Round 1 window, this correction option is gone for good.
  • ⚠️ Wrong email ID: The mail must come only from the email address the candidate used/registered at the time of the NEET exam. An email from a different personal or family email ID may not be honoured.
  • ⚠️ Unsigned or wrong format: The request must be a signed PDF. A scanned photo, an unsigned letter, or a message typed directly in the email body without an attached signed PDF may not meet the requirement.
  • ✅ Self-caused error only: This is specifically for candidates who made the mistake themselves during Round 1 registration — it is a one-time correction facility, not a general grievance window.
