What Makes Round 3 Different From Earlier Rounds

Round 3 is unique because it opens fresh registration, unlike Round 2. This gives candidates who missed the first two rounds a final full counselling opportunity before the stray vacancy round. The seat matrix in Round 3 includes seats that were surrendered by the central Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) pool after the all-India Round 3 counselling concluded.

Private college seats typically become available in larger numbers during Round 3. Additionally, the upgradation rule applies, meaning if you were allotted a seat in an earlier round but did not join, you can attempt to secure a better college or course in this round. It is essential to read the fresh information bulletin released by DGME to understand the exact seat matrix and any rule changes.

  • Fresh registration window (unlike Round 2)
  • Includes surrendered seats from central MCC pool
  • More private college seats available
  • Upgradation rule applies for better allotment
  • Last full counselling before stray vacancy round

Why Missing Round 3 Could Limit Your MBBS/BDS Options

Round 3 is the final full counselling stage in Uttar Pradesh. After this round concludes and candidates report to their allotted colleges, the stray vacancy round begins. The stray round offers only the seats that remain unfilled after all three main rounds—typically a very small number.

The stray round also operates under stricter rules and offers limited choice to candidates. If you miss Round 3, your chances of securing a state MBBS or BDS seat diminish significantly. This is why registering today, even if you are unsure about your choices, is far better than waiting and hoping for a stray seat later.

Choice Filling Strategy and What to Prepare

After the merit list is declared on 28 October, you will have until 5:00 PM on 31 October to fill and lock your college and course choices. This is a critical step—your allotment will be based on your choices and merit rank. Before you begin registration, research the colleges you are interested in, their location, infrastructure, and placement records.

Prepare a ranked list of colleges and courses in order of your preference. Remember that you can only be allotted one seat, and it will be the highest-ranked choice for which you are eligible based on your NEET score and category. Lock your choices carefully and on time; late submissions will not be accepted.

  • Choice filling window: 28 October (5:00 PM) to 31 October (5:00 PM)
  • Research colleges and courses before registration
  • Prepare a ranked preference list
  • Allotment is based on merit rank and your choices

Gather all required documents before you begin the registration process. You will need your NEET UG 2026 scorecard, Class 10 mark sheet, Class 12 mark sheet, and a valid identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, or driving license). Ensure all documents are scanned clearly and saved in the format specified by the portal.

You will also need proof of Uttar Pradesh domicile, such as a domicile certificate issued by the state government. Having all documents ready and properly scanned will speed up your registration and reduce the risk of errors or rejections. Do not wait until the last moment to gather these documents.

What Happens After Allotment and Reporting

Once you download your allotment letter between 3 and 7 November, you must report to the allotted college with original documents within the specified window. Failure to report on time will result in forfeiture of your seat, and it will be offered to the next eligible candidate. Bring all original documents, including your NEET scorecard, mark sheets, domicile certificate, and identity proof.

After reporting, the college will complete your admission formalities, including fee payment and hostel allocation if applicable. Keep all receipts and documents safe. Once you join a college in Round 3, you cannot participate in the stray vacancy round or any subsequent counselling.

  • Download allotment letter: 3 to 7 November 2026
