Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Telangana, has opened the Stray Vacancy phase of web-based counselling for BDS admissions under Competent Authority Quota (CQ) for the 2026-27 academic year. This is the final opportunity to secure a BDS seat in government and private dental colleges across Telangana if you were on the merit list but did not get a seat in earlier counselling rounds. Eligible candidates can exercise web options (rank their college preferences) from 1:00 PM on 22 October 2026 to 10:00 AM on 23 October 2026 through the official portal. However, strict eligibility rules apply—many candidates who participated in earlier rounds are barred from this phase. If you are allotted a seat and do not join, you face a ₹20 lakh penalty and a 3-year debarment from KNRUHS BDS admissions.

Only candidates on the final merit list who did NOT get a seat in earlier CQ phases, did NOT exercise options in the first phase, and are NOT already admitted to MBBS or BDS elsewhere can apply; web options close at 10 AM on 23 October 2026.

What is the Stray Vacancy Phase?

The Stray Vacancy phase is the final counselling round for BDS admissions under Competent Authority Quota in Telangana. It fills seats that remain vacant after all earlier counselling phases (first phase, second phase, mop-up, etc.) are complete. This is your last chance to secure a BDS seat if you were on the merit list but did not get allocated a seat before.

Stray Vacancy is different from earlier rounds because it is open only to a very specific group of candidates—those who meet strict eligibility conditions. The university will allot seats based on your web-option preferences and merit rank, but only if you qualify under all the eligibility rules listed below.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

To exercise web options in the Stray Vacancy phase, you must satisfy ALL of the following conditions. If you fail even one, your options will not be considered and your application will be rejected.

First, your name must appear in the final merit list for Competent Authority Quota on the KNRUHS website. Second, you must be a NEET UG 2026 qualified candidate. Third, you must NOT have been allotted a seat in any earlier phase of CQ counselling—if you were allotted a seat before (even if you did not join), you are barred. Fourth, you must have exercised web options in the first phase of counselling—if you did not participate in the first phase at all, you cannot apply now.

  • Your name must be on the final merit list for Competent Authority Quota
  • You must have qualified NEET UG 2026
  • You must NOT have been allotted a CQ seat in any earlier counselling phase
  • You must have exercised web options in the first phase of counselling
  • You must NOT have joined BDS under Management Quota in any earlier phase
  • You must NOT have been admitted to MBBS (under CQ or Management Quota) in any earlier phase and still be continuing in that course
  • You must NOT have been admitted under MCC counselling up to the third phase
  • You must NOT have been admitted in another state as per MCC portal data
  • You must NOT have been allotted a seat in the MCC Stray Vacancy round
  • You must NOT have discontinued your course after joining in any earlier phase

Important Dates and Timeline

The web-option window is extremely short—only 33 hours. You must submit your college preferences within this narrow timeframe, or you will lose your chance entirely.

After you submit your options, the university will process them and allot seats based on merit and availability. You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number once a seat is allotted. You must then download your allotment order from the portal after paying the university fee, and report to your allotted college by the joining date specified on the allotment order.

How to Exercise Web Options

See My Colleges

Web options means you rank the dental colleges in order of your preference. The university will allot you a seat at the highest-ranked college where a vacancy exists and you meet the merit cutoff. You must exercise options from a computer with an internet connection—do not rely on a mobile phone, as the portal may not work smoothly on small screens.

Before you start, read the Prospectus and Government Orders on the KNRUHS website to understand the admission rules and regulations. Then log in to https://tsbdsadm.tsche.in/ using your credentials. You will receive a one-time password (OTP) consisting of a six-letter code (A–Z capital letters) sent to your registered mobile number. Save this password and keep it safe. Rank the colleges in your order of preference, then submit. Print a copy of your saved options immediately for your records.

After submission, you will receive an SMS confirming your options have been recorded. Do not assume you are done—you must monitor the portal and your SMS for the allotment result. Once allotted, you must pay the university fee online (via debit card, credit card, or internet banking) to download your allotment order.

  • Log in to https://tsbdsadm.tsche.in/ from a computer with internet
  • Read the Prospectus and Government Orders on KNRUHS website first
  • You will receive a one-time password (6-letter code) on your registered mobile
  • Rank colleges in order of preference
  • Submit your options before 10:00 AM on 23 October 2026
  • Print a copy of your saved options
  • Monitor the portal and your SMS for allotment result
  • Pay university fee online to download allotment order

Fees You Must Pay

There are two separate fees: the university fee and the tuition fee. The university fee is paid to KNRUHS and is the same for all candidates. The tuition fee is paid to your allotted college and varies depending on whether it is a government or private college.

The university fee of ₹12,000 must be paid online (debit card, credit card, or internet banking) immediately after you are allotted a seat. This fee is non-refundable under any circumstances—even if you do not join, even if you discontinue later, you will not get this money back. If your payment fails and you make a second successful payment (double payment), you must email knruhs.doublepayments@gmail.com with proof, and the duplicate amount will be refunded only after admissions close.

The tuition fee is paid directly to your allotted college. For Government Dental College & Hospital, Hyderabad, check the college website for the fee amount. For private dental colleges, the fee is set by Government Order G.O.Ms.No. 98, HM&FW(C1) Dept., dated 07.08.2026—check your college's website or contact them directly for the exact amount.

  • University fee: ₹12,000 (non-refundable, paid online to KNRUHS)
  • Tuition fee: varies by college (paid to the college at the time of joining)
  • Payment method for university fee: debit card, credit card, or internet banking
  • Double payment: email knruhs.doublepayments@gmail.com for refund after admissions close

Fee Structure for BDS Stray Vacancy Admissions

The ₹20 Lakh Penalty and 3-Year Debarment: What You Must Know

This is the most important trap in this counselling round. If you are allotted a seat and do not join, or if you join and then discontinue the course after the Stray Vacancy phase, you will face a penalty of ₹20 lakhs and be debarred from BDS admissions under KNRUHS for 3 years. This is not a warning—it is a rule that will be enforced.

The penalty applies in three scenarios: (1) You are allotted a seat in this phase and do not join the course by the deadline on your allotment order. (2) You join the course but discontinue it after the Stray Vacancy phase ends. (3) You do not complete the admission process (submit original certificates, pay tuition fee, report to the college) by the joining deadline specified on your allotment order. If any of these happen, your admission will be cancelled automatically, and you will owe ₹20 lakhs to the university and be unable to apply for BDS under KNRUHS for 3 years.

The only exception is if you discontinue before the 'last date for free exit' notified by the university—but this date is typically very early in the academic year, and you must check the university's notification for the exact date. If you discontinue after that date, the full penalty applies. Original certificates submitted at admission are not returned unless you exit before the free-exit deadline.

  • Penalty: ₹20 lakhs + 3-year debarment from KNRUHS BDS admissions
  • Applies if you are allotted a seat and do not join
  • Applies if you join and discontinue after Stray Vacancy phase
  • Applies if you do not complete admission by the joining deadline
  • Exception: discontinue before the 'last date for free exit' (check university notification)
  • Original certificates are not returned unless you exit before the free-exit deadline

Step-by-Step Joining Process After Allotment

Once you are allotted a seat, the process is not over—you must complete several steps to finalize your admission. Failure to complete any step by the deadline will result in automatic cancellation and the ₹20 lakh penalty.

Step 1: You will receive an SMS on your registered mobile number informing you of your allotment. Step 2: Log in to https://tsmedadm.tsche.in/ to check your allotment status and download your allotment order. Step 3: Pay the university fee of ₹12,000 online (debit card, credit card, or internet banking) through the payment gateway. Step 4: Download your allotment order from the portal after successful payment. Step 5: Note the joining deadline specified on your allotment order. Step 6: Report to the Principal of your allotted dental college on or before that deadline with all original certificates, relevant bonds, and proof of tuition fee payment. Step 7: Pay the tuition fee to the college (amount varies; check with the college). Step 8: Complete the admission process as directed by the college.

  • Receive SMS notification of allotment on registered mobile
  • Log in to https://tsmedadm.tsche.in/ to check status
  • Pay university fee (₹12,000) online via debit/credit card or internet banking
  • Download allotment order from portal after payment
  • Note the joining deadline on your allotment order
  • Report to the college Principal before the joining deadline
  • Bring all original certificates and relevant bonds
  • Pay tuition fee to the college
  • Complete admission formalities as directed by the college

Certificate Verification and Disqualification

After you join, the college will conduct a final verification of your original certificates. This is not a formality—if there is any discrepancy between your certificates and the information you provided in your application, your provisional allotment will be cancelled and action will be taken against you and your parent as per university regulations.

Common reasons for disqualification include: incorrect date of birth, wrong category (SC/ST/OBC/General), forged or altered certificates, missing or incomplete documents, and mismatch between your NEET scorecard and your certificates. Ensure all your documents are genuine, complete, and match your application before you report to the college.

  • Final certificate verification is conducted at the allotted college
  • Any discrepancy will result in cancellation of allotment
  • Action will be taken against candidate and parent as per university regulations
  • Ensure all certificates are genuine and match your application
  • Bring all original documents to the college

Common Mistakes That Get Your Application Rejected

Many candidates lose their seats because they make preventable mistakes. Here are the most common traps:

Trap 1: You were allotted a seat in an earlier CQ phase but did not join. You think you can apply in Stray Vacancy. You cannot—the rule explicitly bars anyone who was allotted a seat before, regardless of whether they joined. Trap 2: You did not exercise web options in the first phase of counselling. You think you can apply in Stray Vacancy. You cannot—the rule requires you to have participated in the first phase. Trap 3: You are already admitted to MBBS (under CQ or Management Quota) in another state or under MCC counselling. You think you can also apply for BDS in Telangana. You cannot—the rule bars anyone admitted to MBBS elsewhere. Trap 4: You joined BDS under Management Quota in an earlier phase and are still continuing. You think you can switch to CQ in Stray Vacancy. You cannot—the rule bars anyone already in a BDS course. Trap 5: You do not submit your options by 10:00 AM on 23 October 2026. The portal closes and you lose your chance forever. Trap 6: You are allotted a seat but do not pay the university fee or do not report to the college by the joining deadline. Your admission is cancelled automatically and you owe ₹20 lakhs. Trap 7: You pay the university fee but do not download your allotment order. You cannot join without the allotment order. Trap 8: You do not bring original certificates to the college. Your admission will be cancelled during verification.

  • Do not apply if you were allotted a seat in any earlier CQ phase
  • Do not apply if you did not exercise options in the first phase
  • Do not apply if you are already admitted to MBBS elsewhere
  • Do not apply if you are already in a BDS course (any quota)
  • Do not miss the 10:00 AM deadline on 23 October 2026
  • Do not skip paying the university fee or reporting to the college
  • Do not forget to download your allotment order after payment
  • Do not forget to bring original certificates to the college

Frequently asked questions

I was on the merit list but did not get a seat in the first phase. Can I apply in Stray Vacancy?

Only if you exercised web options in the first phase of counselling. If you did not participate in the first phase at all, you are not eligible for Stray Vacancy. If you did exercise options in the first phase but were not allotted a seat, then yes, you can apply in Stray Vacancy—provided you meet all other eligibility conditions (you are not already admitted to MBBS or BDS elsewhere, you did not discontinue a course, etc.).

I was allotted a seat in the first phase of CQ counselling but did not join. Can I apply in Stray Vacancy?

No. The rule explicitly states that candidates who were allotted seats in any earlier phase of CQ counselling are not eligible for Stray Vacancy, regardless of whether they joined or not. Once you are allotted a seat, you are barred from applying again.

I am already admitted to MBBS under Management Quota in another state. Can I apply for BDS in Telangana Stray Vacancy?

No. The rule bars candidates who are admitted to MBBS (under any quota) in any state and are continuing in that course. You must first discontinue your MBBS course before you can apply for BDS. However, if you discontinue, you may face penalties depending on your college's rules.

What happens if I do not join after being allotted a seat in Stray Vacancy?

You will face a penalty of ₹20 lakhs and be debarred from BDS admissions under KNRUHS for 3 years. Your admission will be cancelled automatically. This penalty is enforced strictly and is non-negotiable.

Is the university fee of ₹12,000 refundable?

No. The university fee is non-refundable under any circumstances—even if you do not join, even if you discontinue the course later. The only exception is if you make a double payment due to a failed transaction; in that case, the duplicate amount will be refunded after admissions close, but only upon verification and email request to knruhs.doublepayments@gmail.com.

What is the deadline to exercise web options?

The web-option window is from 1:00 PM on 22 October 2026 to 10:00 AM on 23 October 2026. This is a very short window—only 33 hours. If you do not submit your options by 10:00 AM on 23 October, you will lose your chance entirely and cannot apply in this phase.

I exercised web options but did not receive a confirmation SMS. What should I do?

Log in to https://tsmedadm.tsche.in/ to check if your options were saved. If they were not, contact technical support at 9392685856, 7842136688, or 9059672216, or email tsmedadm.tech@gmail.com. Do not assume your options were submitted if you did not receive confirmation.

Can I change my web options after I submit them?

The notification does not explicitly state whether you can modify options after submission. To be safe, contact the university at 7901098840 or 9490585796 before the deadline if you need to change your preferences. Do not wait until the last minute.

What documents do I need to bring when I report to the college?

You must bring all original certificates, relevant bonds, and proof of tuition fee payment. The college will conduct a final verification of your certificates. Any discrepancy will result in cancellation of your allotment and action against you and your parent as per university regulations. Ensure all documents are genuine and match your application.

Can I discontinue the course after joining in Stray Vacancy?

You can discontinue only before the 'last date for free exit' notified by the university. If you discontinue after that date, you will face a penalty of ₹20 lakhs and be debarred for 3 years. Original certificates are not returned unless you exit before the free-exit deadline. Check the university's notification for the exact free-exit date.

I paid the university fee but did not download my allotment order. Can I still join?

No. You must download your allotment order from the portal after paying the university fee. The allotment order contains the joining deadline and other critical information. Without it, you cannot complete the admission process. If you face issues downloading, contact the payment gateway support at 9618240276.

What if my certificate verification fails at the college?

If there is any discrepancy between your certificates and your application, your provisional allotment will be cancelled and action will be taken against you and your parent as per university regulations. Ensure all your documents are genuine, complete, and match your application before you report to the college.

If you are eligible and on the final merit list, log in to https://tsbdsadm.tsche.in/ and exercise your web options between 1:00 PM on 22 October 2026 and 10:00 AM on 23 October 2026. Rank your colleges carefully, print your saved options, and monitor the portal for your allotment result. Once allotted, pay the ₹12,000 university fee immediately, download your allotment order, and report to your college by the joining deadline with all original certificates. Remember: if you are allotted a seat and do not join, or if you join and discontinue after Stray Vacancy, you will face a ₹20 lakh penalty and 3-year debarment. This is not a warning—it is a rule that will be enforced. Act now, and act carefully.
