Tamil Nadu's Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME) has released the provisional allotment list for the 7.5% Government School Students quota for MBBS and BDS courses in the 2026–27 academic session. This list contains 655 candidates who have been allotted seats across government colleges, self-financing colleges, and ESIC institutions across Tamil Nadu. The allotment is based on NEET UG 2026 scores and eligibility under the 7.5% reservation for students who studied in government schools. All candidates on this list have been marked as "Retained," meaning their allotments are provisional and subject to document verification and joining formalities.

If your name and rank appear on this provisional allotment list, you must report to your allotted college with all required documents by the deadline announced by DME to confirm your seat.

What is the 7.5% Government School Students Quota?

Tamil Nadu reserves 7.5% of MBBS and BDS seats in government colleges for students who have studied in government schools throughout their schooling. This is a special reservation designed to encourage and support students from the government education system.

To be eligible for this quota, you must have studied in a government school (not private school) for your entire school career. This is verified during the document verification stage after allotment. The quota applies to all community categories (SC, ST, BC, MBC&DNC, OC) and is separate from the general merit-based counselling.

Understanding the Allotment List: What Each Column Means

The provisional list shows 655 candidates with the following key information: SNO (serial number in this list), GRANK (your rank in the government school quota merit list), APP. NO (your NEET application number), NAME, COMMUNITY (your caste/category), T.MARK (your NEET score), ALLOTTED FROM (the quota category you were allotted from, e.g., GQ_MBBS for government quota MBBS), ALLOTTED TO (the specific college assigned to you), and Status (all marked "Retained" for provisional allotment).

Your GRANK is your position within the 7.5% government school quota merit list—not your overall NEET rank. For example, rank 1 means you are the top candidate in this quota. The colleges listed range from premier government medical colleges like Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College to newer government colleges and self-financing institutions. ESIC quota seats (marked A1_MBBS) are also included for eligible candidates.

Important Dates and Deadlines You Must Know

This is a provisional list released on 12 October 2026. The DME will announce the exact deadline for document verification and college reporting separately—watch the official DME website (dmehr.tn.gov.in) and your registered email/SMS for updates. Missing the deadline will result in forfeiture of your seat.

The provisional status means your allotment is conditional on: (1) verification that you studied in a government school, (2) verification of all other eligibility documents (NEET admit card, mark sheet, community certificate if applicable, etc.), and (3) your physical presence at the college on the reporting date. Do not assume your seat is confirmed until you have completed document verification and joined the college.

  • Provisional list released: 12 October 2026
  • Document verification deadline: To be announced by DME (check official website daily)
  • College reporting deadline: To be announced by DME
  • Failure to report by deadline = automatic forfeiture of seat

How to Check If You Are on the List

Search the PDF list by your NEET application number (APP. NO) or your name. The list is sorted by GRANK (merit rank within the 7.5% quota), so if you know your approximate rank, you can scroll to that section. You can also use your browser's Find function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to search for your application number or name quickly.

If your name appears on this list, note your GRANK, the college you have been allotted to, and the quota category (GQ_MBBS for government college MBBS, GQ_BDS for government college BDS, GQ_MBBS (SF Colleges) for self-financing college MBBS, etc.). This information is critical for the next steps.

  • Search by NEET application number (26UG followed by 6 digits)
  • Search by your full name as it appears on your NEET admit card
  • Note your GRANK, allotted college, and course (MBBS or BDS)
  • If not found, you are not eligible for this quota or did not meet the cutoff

Colleges Included in This Allotment

The allotment covers government medical and dental colleges across Tamil Nadu, including premier institutions like Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College, Kilpauk Medical College, and Coimbatore Medical College. It also includes newer government colleges in districts like Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Chengalpattu, and Ariyalur. Additionally, self-financing colleges (marked SF Colleges) such as Christian Medical College Vellore, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, and others are included. A small number of ESIC (Employees' State Insurance) quota seats are also allotted.

The college you are allotted to depends on your NEET score, your rank within the 7.5% quota, and the availability of seats at each college. Higher-ranked candidates (lower GRANK numbers) generally get allotments at more sought-after colleges. If you are allotted to a self-financing college, note that you will pay private fees, not government fees.

  • Government colleges: Madras Medical, Stanley Medical, Kilpauk Medical, Coimbatore Medical, Thanjavur Medical, Tirunelveli Medical, Madurai Medical, and many others
  • Self-financing colleges: Christian Medical College Vellore, PSG Institute Coimbatore, KMCH, Tagore Medical College, and others
  • ESIC quota: ESI-PGIMSR, ESI Hospital K.K. Nagar, Chennai
  • All colleges are in Tamil Nadu

What "Retained" Status Means

All 655 candidates on this list are marked as "Retained," which means the DME has provisionally held your allotment pending document verification. This is NOT a final confirmation of your seat. "Retained" simply means you have cleared the merit-based selection and are eligible to proceed to the next stage.

Your seat will be confirmed only after: (1) you submit all required documents at the college, (2) the college verifies that you studied in a government school and meet all other eligibility criteria, and (3) you pay the admission fee and complete the joining formalities. If any document is found to be false or missing, your allotment can be cancelled and your seat given to the next candidate on the waiting list.

  • Retained = provisionally allotted, not finally confirmed
  • You must complete document verification to confirm your seat
  • False or missing documents can result in cancellation of allotment
  • Failure to report by the deadline will result in forfeiture

Documents You Must Bring for Verification

When you report to your allotted college, bring originals and photocopies of: (1) NEET UG 2026 admit card, (2) NEET UG 2026 score card/result, (3) 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates, (4) proof that you studied in a government school (school leaving certificate, transfer certificate, or school records showing government school name and years attended), (5) Aadhaar card or passport, (6) community certificate (if applicable—SC, ST, BC, MBC&DNC), (7) income certificate (if required), (8) medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor, and (9) any other document specified by the college in its admission notice.

The government school proof is critical for this quota. If you cannot prove that you studied in a government school for your entire schooling, your allotment will be cancelled. Bring school records, transfer certificates, or official letters from your school confirming your enrollment. Do not delay in gathering these documents—start collecting them immediately after seeing this list.

  • NEET admit card and score card (originals and copies)
  • 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates (originals and copies)
  • Proof of government school education (school leaving certificate, transfer certificate, or school records)
  • Aadhaar card or passport (original and copy)
  • Community certificate if applicable (original and copy)
  • Income certificate if required (original and copy)
  • Medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor
  • Any other document specified by the college

⚠️ **This is the most common reason for cancellation of allotment under the 7.5% quota.** You must have studied in a government school for your entire schooling—from primary through 12th standard. If you studied in a private school for any part of your schooling, you are NOT eligible for this quota, and your allotment will be cancelled during document verification.

"Government school" means a school run by the state or central government, not a private school, even if it receives some government funding. If you are unsure whether your school qualifies, contact the DME or your school directly before the reporting date. Do not assume your school is a government school—verify this in writing from your school before you report to the college.

  • You must have studied in a government school for your entire schooling (primary to 12th)
  • Private schools do not qualify, even if they receive government grants
  • If you studied in a private school for any period, you are ineligible
  • Bring official proof from your school confirming it is a government school
  • Failure to prove government school status = cancellation of allotment

What to Do If Your Name Is on the List

Step 1: Verify your details. Check that your name, NEET application number, score, and allotted college are correct. If there is an error, contact the DME immediately with proof (your NEET admit card and score card).

Step 2: Gather all required documents. Start collecting originals and photocopies of all documents listed above, especially proof of government school education. Do not wait until the last minute.

Step 3: Watch for the DME's announcement of the document verification date and college reporting deadline. This will be posted on the official DME website (dmehr.tn.gov.in) and sent via SMS/email to your registered contact details. Check daily.

Step 4: Report to your allotted college on the announced date with all documents. Arrive early and bring both originals and photocopies. Complete document verification, pay the admission fee, and complete joining formalities.

Step 5: Do not miss the deadline. If you do not report by the announced date, your seat will be forfeited and given to the next candidate on the waiting list.

  • Verify your details on the list immediately
  • Gather all required documents now—do not delay
  • Watch the DME website daily for the reporting deadline announcement
  • Report to your college on the announced date with all documents
  • Missing the deadline = automatic forfeiture of seat

What to Do If Your Name Is NOT on the List

If your name does not appear on this provisional list, it means either: (1) you did not qualify for the 7.5% government school quota (your score was below the cutoff for this quota), (2) you did not meet the eligibility criteria (e.g., you did not study in a government school), or (3) there was an error in your application or NEET registration.

Check the DME website for other allotment lists (general merit list, other reserved quotas, etc.). You may be eligible for allotment under a different quota. If you believe there is an error, contact the DME with your NEET application number and admit card immediately. Do not wait—the DME will announce deadlines for other rounds of counselling, and you must act quickly to participate.

  • Check other allotment lists (general merit, other quotas) on the DME website
  • If you believe there is an error, contact DME immediately with proof
  • Watch for announcements of other counselling rounds
  • Do not miss deadlines for other rounds

Frequently asked questions

What does "provisional allotment" mean? Is my seat confirmed?

No, provisional allotment is not final confirmation. It means you have cleared the merit-based selection and are eligible to proceed to document verification. Your seat will be confirmed only after you submit all required documents at the college, the college verifies your eligibility (especially that you studied in a government school), and you complete joining formalities. If any document is false or missing, your allotment can be cancelled.

I am on the list but studied in a private school for part of my schooling. Can I still join?

No. The 7.5% government school quota requires that you studied in a government school for your entire schooling—from primary through 12th standard. If you studied in a private school for any period, you are ineligible, and your allotment will be cancelled during document verification. Do not report to the college if you cannot prove government school education.

What is the deadline to report to my allotted college?

The DME has not yet announced the reporting deadline in this notice. Watch the official DME website (dmehr.tn.gov.in) daily for the announcement. The deadline will also be sent via SMS and email to your registered contact details. Missing the deadline will result in automatic forfeiture of your seat.

I am allotted to a self-financing college. Will I pay government fees or private fees?

You will pay private fees. Self-financing colleges (marked "SF Colleges" in the allotment list) charge private fees, which are significantly higher than government college fees. If you cannot afford private fees, you may be able to participate in a subsequent round of counselling to seek a government college allotment, but this is not guaranteed. Check the college's fee structure before reporting.

My name is not on the list. What should I do?

Check the DME website for other allotment lists (general merit list, other reserved quotas). You may be eligible for allotment under a different quota. If you believe there is an error in your application or NEET registration, contact the DME immediately with your NEET application number and admit card. Watch for announcements of other counselling rounds and participate if you are eligible.

Can I change my allotted college or course?

This provisional list is based on merit and availability. You cannot change your allotted college or course at this stage. However, after joining, some colleges may allow internal transfers or course changes based on their policies. Check with your college after joining. In future counselling rounds (if applicable), you may have the option to participate and seek a different college.

What if I have a lower NEET score but am ranked higher in the 7.5% quota list?

This is possible because the 7.5% quota is a separate merit list. Your GRANK (rank in the 7.5% quota) is based on your NEET score compared only to other candidates in the 7.5% government school quota, not to all NEET candidates. So a lower absolute score can result in a higher rank within this smaller, specialized quota.

I am allotted to an ESIC quota seat. What does this mean?

ESIC (Employees' State Insurance) quota seats are reserved for dependents of ESIC-registered workers. If you are allotted to an ESIC seat (marked "A1_MBBS (ESIC)" in the list), you must be eligible as a dependent of an ESIC worker. Bring proof of your parent's ESIC registration during document verification. If you are not eligible, your allotment will be cancelled.

What happens if I do not report to the college by the deadline?

If you do not report by the announced deadline, your seat will be automatically forfeited. The DME will then allot your seat to the next candidate on the waiting list. You will lose your opportunity to join under this quota in this round. Do not miss the deadline.

Can I defer my admission to the next year?

Deferment policies are set by individual colleges and the DME. Generally, deferment is not allowed for NEET UG counselling. If you need to defer, contact the DME and your allotted college immediately to inquire about their deferment policy. Do not assume deferment is possible—it is usually not allowed.

If your name appears on this provisional allotment list, congratulations—you have cleared the merit-based selection for the 7.5% government school quota. However, your seat is not yet confirmed. Immediately gather all required documents (especially proof of government school education), watch the DME website daily for the reporting deadline announcement, and report to your allotted college on time with all documents. Missing the deadline or failing document verification will result in forfeiture of your seat. If your name is not on the list, check other allotment lists and contact the DME if you believe there is an error.
