What Has Changed: Why This Modified Schedule?

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the addition of new postgraduate seats to the Round 2 seat matrix. Because new seats have been added, MCC has had to adjust the entire Round 2 timeline to allow institutes time to verify the updated seat matrix and to give candidates a fair window to register and fill choices for these newly available positions.

This is not a delay or cancellation — it is a schedule adjustment to accommodate more seats. If you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and are considering whether to stay or move to Round 2, or if you did not get a seat in Round 1 and are entering Round 2 for the first time, this modified schedule is your roadmap.

Who Can Register for Round 2?

Round 2 is open to all NEET PG 2026 candidates who have not yet been allotted a seat, or who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but wish to resign and try for a better option in Round 2. If you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and want to stay in it, you do not need to register for Round 2 — your seat remains yours unless you resign.

If you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and wish to resign to participate in Round 2, you must do so by 6:00 PM on 9 November 2026 (see the section on resignation below). After that deadline, you cannot resign without forfeiting your security deposit.

  • Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1
  • Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but wish to resign and try Round 2
  • All candidates must have a valid NEET PG 2026 score and must be eligible as per NEET PG eligibility criteria

Resignation from Round 1 Without Losing Your Security Deposit

If you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and want to participate in Round 2, you must formally resign from your Round 1 seat. The key advantage: if you resign by 6:00 PM on 9 November 2026, you will NOT forfeit your security deposit. After that deadline, any resignation will result in loss of your security deposit.

The resignation process differs depending on whether you are a 'Freeze' candidate or a 'Float' candidate. Freeze candidates are those who have already joined and completed verification at their Round 1 allotted institute. Float candidates are those who were allotted a seat but have not yet joined or completed verification.

  • **Freeze Candidates** (already joined Round 1 institute): You must physically visit your allotted institute and submit a resignation request in person. Do not attempt to resign online.
  • **Float Candidates** (allotted but not yet joined): You must submit your resignation online through the MCC portal.
  • **Deadline**: 6:00 PM on 9 November 2026 (server time). After this, resignation will result in forfeiture of security deposit.
  • **Important**: Resignation is optional. If you are happy with your Round 1 seat, you do not need to resign.

Step-by-Step: How to Register for Round 2

Registration for Round 2 is the first step. You must complete registration before you can fill choices. Registration opens at 1:00 PM on 7 November 2026 (today) and closes at 3:00 PM on 14 November 2026. Do not wait until the last day — the portal may experience heavy traffic.

To register, log in to the MCC portal (www.mcc.nic.in) using your NEET PG 2026 credentials (registration number and password). Fill in or verify your personal, educational, and contact details. Ensure all information is accurate — errors here can lead to rejection of your allotment later. After registration, you will receive a confirmation. Keep this confirmation safe.

  • Review all information carefully — this is your last chance to correct errors before choice filling
  • Submit your registration
  • Download and save your registration confirmation

Edit and Reset Your Registration: When and How

After you register, you have a window to edit or reset your registration if you made a mistake or want to change your category or other details. The Edit/Reset option is available from 3:00 PM on 7 November 2026 to 1:00 PM on 14 November 2026.

**Edit** allows you to correct specific details (e.g., a typo in your name or contact number). **Reset** clears your entire registration and lets you start over. Use Reset only if you need to make major changes. Once you lock your choices (see below), you cannot edit or reset your registration.

  • Edit/Reset window: 3:00 PM on 7 Nov to 1:00 PM on 14 Nov 2026
  • Use Edit to correct minor errors in your registered details
  • Use Reset only if you need to re-register completely
  • After 1:00 PM on 14 Nov, no further edits or resets are allowed
  • Do not confuse Edit/Reset with Choice Locking — these are separate actions

Payment: When and How Much

After you register, you must pay the Round 2 counselling fee. Payment is available until 6:00 PM on 14 November 2026. The notice does not specify the fee amount — check the MCC website or your portal for the exact fee for your category. Payment is typically non-refundable, so ensure you are ready to proceed before paying.

You can pay online via the MCC portal using a debit card, credit card, or net banking. Keep your payment receipt — you will need it as proof of payment if there are any disputes.

  • Payment deadline: 6:00 PM on 14 Nov 2026
  • Payment is mandatory to participate in Round 2
  • Pay online through the MCC portal
  • Keep your payment receipt and transaction ID
  • Check the MCC website for the exact fee amount for your category
  • Payment is typically non-refundable

Choice Filling: Your Opportunity to Select Colleges and Specialties

Choice filling is where you list the colleges, specialties, and quotas you are willing to accept. This is your chance to rank your preferences in order of priority. The system will allot you the highest-ranked choice for which you are eligible based on your NEET PG rank and category.

Choice filling opens at 1:00 PM on 10 November 2026 and closes at 11:55 PM on 15 November 2026. You can add, remove, or reorder your choices at any time during this window. However, once you lock your choices (see below), you cannot change them.

  • Choice filling window: 1:00 PM on 10 Nov to 11:55 PM on 15 Nov 2026
  • Log in to the MCC portal and navigate to the choice-filling section
  • Search for colleges and specialties using filters (state, specialty, quota type)
  • Add your preferred choices to your list
  • Rank your choices in order of preference — the system will allot your highest-ranked eligible choice
  • You can edit your choices at any time before locking
  • Add as many choices as you wish — more choices increase your chances of allotment
  • Do not leave your choice list empty — if you do, you will not be allotted a seat

Choice Locking: The Point of No Return

Choice locking is the final step before seat allotment. Once you lock your choices, you cannot edit, add, or remove any choice. The system will then process your locked choices and allot you a seat based on your rank, category, and the availability of seats in your chosen colleges and specialties.

Choice locking opens at 4:00 PM on 14 November 2026 and closes at 11:55 PM on 15 November 2026. You do not have to lock your choices immediately — you can wait until closer to the deadline. However, do not wait until the very last minute, as the portal may experience delays or crashes due to heavy traffic.

  • Choice locking window: 4:00 PM on 14 Nov to 11:55 PM on 15 Nov 2026
  • Review your choice list carefully before locking — this is your last chance to make changes
  • Click the 'Lock Choices' button to finalize your list
  • After locking, you cannot edit, add, or remove any choice
  • The system will process your locked choices and generate your allotment
  • Lock your choices well before 11:55 PM on 15 Nov to avoid last-minute portal issues

Seat Processing, Results, and Reporting

After choice locking closes on 15 November at 11:55 PM, MCC will process all locked choices and generate allotments. A provisional result will be released on 16 November 2026, followed by the final result on 17 November 2026. The provisional result is for your information only — the final result is the official allotment.

Once the final result is declared on 17 November, you must report to your allotted college between 18 and 24 November 2026. Reporting means physically visiting the college, submitting your original documents, and completing the admission formalities. If you do not report within this window, your seat will be cancelled and offered to the next eligible candidate. On 25 November, MCC will verify the data of all candidates who have joined.

Freeze vs. Float Candidates: What's the Difference?

The notice mentions 'Freeze' and 'Float' candidates in the context of resignation. Understanding this distinction is important if you were allotted a seat in Round 1.

**Freeze Candidates** are those who have already joined their Round 1 allotted college and completed the verification process. They are 'frozen' in that college. If a Freeze candidate wants to resign and participate in Round 2, they must physically visit their college and submit a resignation request in person.

**Float Candidates** are those who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but have not yet joined or completed verification. They are 'floating' — not yet committed to a college. If a Float candidate wants to resign and participate in Round 2, they can submit their resignation online through the MCC portal.

  • **Freeze Candidate**: Already joined Round 1 college and completed verification → resign in person at the college
  • **Float Candidate**: Allotted but not yet joined Round 1 college → resign online through MCC portal
  • Both must resign by 6:00 PM on 9 Nov 2026 to avoid forfeiture of security deposit
  • If you are unsure whether you are Freeze or Float, check your Round 1 allotment letter or contact MCC

Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected

Many candidates lose their seats due to preventable errors. Here are the most common pitfalls:

**1. Missing the registration deadline (3:00 PM on 14 Nov)**: If you do not register by this time, you cannot participate in Round 2. There is no extension.

**2. Not paying the counselling fee by 6:00 PM on 14 Nov**: Payment is mandatory. Without payment, your registration is incomplete and you will not be allotted a seat.

**3. Leaving your choice list empty**: If you do not fill any choices, the system has nothing to allot you. You will not get a seat.

**4. Not locking your choices**: If you fill choices but forget to lock them, the system may not process them. Always lock your choices before the deadline.

**5. Providing incorrect or incomplete personal details during registration**: Errors in your name, date of birth, or contact information can lead to rejection of your allotment. Verify every detail carefully.

**6. Resigning from Round 1 after 6:00 PM on 9 Nov**: If you resign after this deadline, you will lose your security deposit. Plan ahead if you want to participate in Round 2.

**7. Not reporting to your allotted college by 24 Nov**: Even if you are allotted a seat, if you do not report within the reporting window, your seat will be cancelled.

**8. Confusing Edit/Reset with Choice Locking**: These are separate actions. You can edit your registration until 1:00 PM on 14 Nov, but you can only lock choices from 4:00 PM on 14 Nov onwards.

Frequently asked questions

Why has the Round 2 schedule been changed?

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the addition of new postgraduate seats to the Round 2 seat matrix. To accommodate these new seats and allow institutes time to verify the updated matrix, MCC has adjusted the entire Round 2 timeline. This is not a delay — it is a schedule adjustment to ensure fairness and transparency.

I was allotted a seat in Round 1. Do I have to participate in Round 2?

No. If you are satisfied with your Round 1 seat, you can stay in it. You only need to participate in Round 2 if you wish to try for a different or better seat. If you want to resign from your Round 1 seat and enter Round 2, you must do so by 6:00 PM on 9 November 2026 without forfeiting your security deposit.

What is the difference between Freeze and Float candidates, and how does it affect resignation?

Freeze candidates have already joined their Round 1 allotted college and completed verification. Float candidates were allotted a seat but have not yet joined. If you are a Freeze candidate and want to resign, you must visit your college in person. If you are a Float candidate, you can resign online through the MCC portal. Both must resign by 6:00 PM on 9 Nov 2026 to avoid losing their security deposit.

When does Round 2 registration open and close?

Registration opens at 1:00 PM on 7 November 2026 (today) and closes at 3:00 PM on 14 November 2026. All times are in server time. Do not wait until the last day — register early to avoid portal congestion.

Can I edit my registration after I have submitted it?

Yes, but only until 1:00 PM on 14 November 2026. You can use the Edit option to correct minor errors or the Reset option to re-register completely. After 1:00 PM on 14 Nov, no further edits or resets are allowed. Do not confuse this with choice locking, which happens later.

What happens if I do not pay the counselling fee by 6:00 PM on 14 November?

If you do not pay by this deadline, your registration will be incomplete and you will not be eligible for seat allotment in Round 2. Payment is mandatory. The notice does not specify the fee amount — check the MCC website for the exact fee for your category.

When can I fill my choices, and what happens if I do not lock them?

Choice filling is available from 1:00 PM on 10 November to 11:55 PM on 15 November 2026. You can add, remove, or reorder choices during this window. However, you must lock your choices (from 4:00 PM on 14 Nov to 11:55 PM on 15 Nov) to finalize them. If you fill choices but do not lock them, the system may not process them and you will not be allotted a seat.

When will the final result be declared, and what must I do after that?

The final result will be declared on 17 November 2026. After that, you must report to your allotted college between 18 and 24 November 2026. Reporting means visiting the college in person with your original documents and completing admission formalities. If you do not report by 24 Nov, your seat will be cancelled.

What documents do I need to bring when I report to my allotted college?

The notice does not specify the exact documents required for reporting. Typically, you will need your NEET PG admit card, allotment letter, original degree certificates, category certificate (if applicable), and other documents as per the college's requirements. Check your allotment letter or contact your allotted college for a complete list.

What if I miss a deadline — can I get an extension?

The notice does not mention any provision for extensions. All deadlines are strict and are enforced by the portal's automated system. Missing a deadline (registration, payment, choice filling, choice locking, or reporting) will result in loss of your opportunity or seat. Plan ahead and complete all steps well before the deadlines.

Where can I get help if I face technical issues during registration or choice filling?

Contact MCC through the portal's help desk or email adgme@nic.in. The MCC website (www.mcc.nic.in) also has FAQs and support resources. Do not rely on unofficial sources — always verify information from the official MCC portal.

Will there be any further changes to the Round 2 schedule?

The notice advises candidates to stay in touch with the MCC website for further updates. Given that new seats have been added and the schedule has already been modified, it is possible that further announcements may be made. Monitor the MCC website daily for any updates.

Act now: if you were allotted a seat in Round 1 and want to participate in Round 2, resign by 6:00 PM on 9 November 2026 (Freeze candidates in person at your college; Float candidates online). Register for Round 2 between 1:00 PM on 7 Nov and 3:00 PM on 14 Nov, pay the fee by 6:00 PM on 14 Nov, fill and lock your choices by 11:55 PM on 15 Nov, and report to your allotted college between 18 and 24 Nov. Check www.mcc.nic.in daily for updates. Do not miss any deadline — the portal will not grant extensions.
