Atal Medical & Research University (AMRU), Himachal Pradesh has released the official merit list for MBBS/BDS Stray Round Counselling 2026 on 21 October 2026. The merit list is system-generated and includes 2,026 candidates ranked across HP Quota, Management Quota, and NRI Quota seats. This is a critical document — your position on this list determines your eligibility for seat allotment in the final round. The notice carries an urgent warning: if your category certificates or reserved-category documents are outdated, invalid, or missing, you will lose your category benefit and may not be admitted even if allotted a seat. You must verify and update all documents NOW, before the final allotment process begins.

Your merit list rank is live — verify it immediately, check that all your category and reservation certificates are valid and in the prescribed format, and prepare to download your provisional allotment letter only after the Final Seat Allotment is declared.

What Is the Stray Round Merit List?

The Stray Round is the final counselling round for MBBS and BDS seats in Himachal Pradesh. It is open to candidates who were not allotted a seat in earlier rounds, or who did not accept their earlier allotment. The merit list released today ranks all eligible candidates who applied for the Stray Round, based on their NEET UG 2026 score and rank.

This merit list is system-generated — it is created automatically by the counselling software based on the data already in the system (your NEET score, category, quota choice, and documents uploaded). The list does NOT mean you have been allotted a seat yet. It is the basis on which seats will be allotted in the next step, called Final Seat Allotment. Your position on this merit list determines the order in which you will be offered a seat.

How to Find Your Name and Rank on the Merit List

The merit list is published as a table with 2,026 rows. Each row shows: your serial number (Sr No), merit number, application number, name, admission quota (HP Quota, Management Quota, or NRI Quota), category reservation (General, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or special category), your NEET All India Merit Rank, your NEET roll number, your NEET score, and whether you are an NRI.

To find yourself: (1) Log in to the AMRU counselling portal using your application number and password. (2) Look for a link to 'Merit List' or 'Stray Round Merit List'. (3) Download the PDF or view it online. (4) Search for your name or application number using Ctrl+F (on computer) or the browser's search function (on mobile). (5) Note your merit number — this is your rank for seat allotment. A lower merit number means a higher rank and a better chance of getting your preferred college and course.

Critical Warning: Category and Reservation Documents Must Be Valid and Updated

The notice contains a stark warning that AMRU has emphasized in bold: if your category certificate, reservation certificate, or any other document you submitted to claim a reserved seat (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Children of J&K Migrants, Defence Personnel, Single Girl Child, Backward Area, Economically Weaker Sections, or any other special category) is outdated, invalid, or not in the prescribed format, you will NOT be allowed to claim that category benefit during final admission.

This is not a minor administrative issue. If your SC certificate is from 2015, or if it does not match the format specified in the AMRU prospectus, or if it is missing a required signature or seal, the Admission Committee of your allotted college will reject your category claim. You will then be treated as a General candidate, and you may lose your seat entirely if a General candidate with a higher rank is waiting for it.

What you must do NOW: (1) Check the AMRU prospectus (available on amruhp.ac.in) to see the exact format and details required for your category certificate. (2) If your certificate is old, expired, or does not match the format, apply for a fresh one from the issuing authority immediately — do not wait. (3) If you are unsure whether your certificate is valid, contact AMRU at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or call 01905-243967 before the final allotment. (4) Do NOT assume your certificate is fine — verify it yourself.

  • SC/ST/OBC certificates must be issued by the competent authority and must be current (not expired).
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) certificates must be issued in the current financial year or as per the prescribed validity period.
  • Children of J&K Migrants certificates must show proof of migration and current residence.
  • Defence Personnel and their wards must have valid service/pension documents.
  • Single Girl Child certificates must be issued by the municipal corporation or gram panchayat.
  • Backward Area certificates must show the candidate's permanent residence in a notified backward area.
  • All certificates must be in the exact format specified in the prospectus — missing details, wrong issuing authority, or incorrect format will result in rejection.

Understanding the Merit List Columns: What Each Number Means

The merit list table has many columns. Here is what each one tells you:

Sr No (Serial Number): This is simply the row number — it goes from 1 to 2,026. It is NOT your rank; it is just the order in which names appear in the list.

Merit No: This IS your rank for seat allotment. Merit No 1 is the highest rank (first to be offered a seat), Merit No 2 is second, and so on. Your merit number is what matters for seat allotment.

Application No: Your unique application number in the AMRU counselling system.

Name: Your full name as registered in the counselling portal.

Admission Quota: The quota under which you applied — HP Quota (for Himachal Pradesh residents), Management Quota (private/deemed seats), or NRI Quota (for Non-Resident Indians).

Category Reservation: Your reserved category — General, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Children of J&K Migrants, Defence Personnel, Single Girl Child, Backward Area, Economically Weaker Sections, Physically Handicapped, or IRDP/BPL.

MBBS All India Merit Rank: Your rank among all NEET UG 2026 candidates across India. This is your NEET rank, not your rank in Himachal Pradesh.

NEET Roll No: Your NEET registration number.

NEET Score: Your total NEET UG 2026 score (out of 720).

NRI Status: Whether you are an NRI (YES) or not (NO).

What Happens Next: From Merit List to Final Seat Allotment

The merit list is NOT the final allotment. It is the ranking that will be used to allot seats. The next step is Final Seat Allotment, which will happen after the merit list is finalized and any objections or corrections are resolved.

Here is the timeline: (1) Merit list released (today, 21 October 2026). (2) Candidates verify their names, ranks, and category documents. (3) Any objections or corrections are submitted (if a process for this is announced). (4) Final Seat Allotment is declared — this will show which college and course you have been allotted, based on your merit rank and your choice of college/course. (5) You download your Provisional Allotment Letter from your login. (6) You report to your allotted college with all original documents for verification and admission.

The notice explicitly states: 'Candidates are advised to approach the allotted college/institute only after the declaration of Final Seat Allotment and only after downloading the Provisional allotment letter from the candidate's login. Admission will not be considered without seat allocation of AMRU.' This means: do NOT go to any college until you have a provisional allotment letter. Colleges will not admit you without it.

Quotas Explained: HP Quota, Management Quota, and NRI Quota

The merit list shows candidates under three different quotas. Your quota determines which seats you are eligible for and how your rank is calculated.

HP Quota: These are seats reserved for candidates who are domiciled in Himachal Pradesh (i.e., permanent residents of HP). To claim HP Quota, you must have an HP domicile certificate. HP Quota seats are further divided into General, SC, ST, OBC, and other reserved categories. Most candidates in the merit list are under HP Quota.

Management Quota: These are seats that colleges can fill through their own selection process, outside the main counselling. Management Quota seats are typically more expensive (higher fees) and are not subject to the same merit-based allotment as HP Quota seats. Some candidates in the merit list are under Management Quota — these are candidates who applied for Management Quota seats.

NRI Quota: These are seats reserved for Non-Resident Indians (Indian citizens living abroad, or foreign nationals of Indian origin). NRI Quota candidates are ranked separately and compete only with other NRI candidates. The merit list shows several NRI candidates, marked as 'YES' in the NRI Status column.

Category Reservations: Who Gets What Benefit

The merit list shows candidates under many different category reservations. Each category has its own merit list and its own seats. Here is what each category means:

General: No reservation. Candidates compete on merit alone.

SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Scheduled Tribe), OBC (Other Backward Class): Reserved categories. Candidates must have a valid certificate from the competent authority.

EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): Reserved for candidates from economically weaker families. Requires an EWS certificate issued in the current financial year.

Children of J&K Migrants: Reserved for children of families who migrated from Jammu & Kashmir. Requires proof of migration and current residence in HP.

Defence Personnel / Wards of Defence Personnel: Reserved for serving or retired defence personnel and their children. Requires service/pension documents.

Single Girl Child: Reserved for girls who are the only child in their family. Requires a certificate from the municipal corporation or gram panchayat.

Backward Area: Reserved for candidates whose permanent residence is in a notified backward area of HP. Requires a residence certificate.

Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Same as EWS above.

IRDP/BPL: Reserved for candidates from families below the poverty line or covered under the Integrated Rural Development Programme. Requires proof of BPL/IRDP status.

Important: If you are claiming any reserved category, your certificate MUST be valid, current, and in the exact format specified in the AMRU prospectus. If it is not, you will lose your category benefit.

How Merit Rank Is Calculated: NEET Score and Tie-Breaking

Your merit rank on this list is based primarily on your NEET UG 2026 score. Candidates with higher NEET scores get higher ranks (lower merit numbers). The merit list shows your NEET score in the 'NEET Score' column.

If two candidates have the same NEET score, tie-breaking rules are applied. The AMRU prospectus specifies the tie-breaking criteria — typically, these include: (1) higher marks in Physics, (2) higher marks in Chemistry, (3) higher marks in Biology, (4) older age (date of birth). However, the exact tie-breaking rules are in the prospectus, so check the prospectus if you need to know the precise order.

Your NEET All India Merit Rank (shown in the merit list) is your rank among all NEET UG 2026 candidates across India. Your rank in the Stray Round merit list (your Merit No) is your rank among candidates who applied for the Stray Round in Himachal Pradesh. These are two different numbers — do not confuse them.

Important: Provisional Allotment Is NOT Final Admission

The notice makes a critical point: 'Provisional allotment of a seat, if any, shall not confer any right of admission, and the final eligibility/category claim shall be subject to verification and approval by the Admission Committee of the concerned Institute.'

This means: even if you are allotted a seat, you are NOT admitted until the college verifies all your documents and approves your category claim. If your category certificate is invalid, or if you do not meet the eligibility criteria, the college can reject your admission even after you have been allotted a seat.

What this means for you: (1) Do not celebrate or make plans until you have been finally admitted. (2) Prepare all your original documents (certificates, mark sheets, ID proof, etc.) for verification at the college. (3) Be ready to provide any additional documents the college asks for. (4) If your category certificate is questionable, get it corrected NOW, before you go to the college.

What to Do If Your Name Is NOT on the Merit List

If you applied for the Stray Round but your name does not appear on the merit list, it means one of the following: (1) Your application was incomplete or rejected during the application process. (2) You did not meet the eligibility criteria for the Stray Round. (3) There was a technical error in the system.

What to do: (1) Log in to the AMRU counselling portal and check the status of your application. (2) If it shows 'Rejected' or 'Incomplete', read the reason for rejection. (3) If you believe the rejection is wrong, contact AMRU immediately at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or call 01905-243967. (4) Do NOT wait — contact them as soon as possible, as there may be a limited window to correct errors or reapply.

Documents You Will Need for Final Admission

Once you are allotted a seat and you go to the college for admission, you will need to present original copies of all the documents you submitted during counselling, plus any additional documents the college asks for. Here is a checklist of documents you should prepare NOW:

General documents (all candidates): (1) NEET UG 2026 admit card. (2) NEET UG 2026 score card / result. (3) 10th mark sheet and certificate. (4) 12th mark sheet and certificate. (5) Passport-size photographs (4-6 copies). (6) Aadhar card or PAN card or voter ID. (7) Domicile certificate (if claiming HP Quota). (8) Migration certificate (if applicable).

Category-specific documents: (1) SC/ST/OBC certificate (if claiming reserved category). (2) EWS certificate (if claiming EWS). (3) Children of J&K Migrants certificate (if applicable). (4) Defence service/pension documents (if claiming Defence Personnel benefit). (5) Single Girl Child certificate (if applicable). (6) Backward Area residence certificate (if applicable). (7) Disability certificate (if claiming Physically Handicapped benefit). (8) BPL/IRDP certificate (if applicable).

Important: All certificates must be ORIGINAL and must match the format specified in the AMRU prospectus. If any certificate is missing, outdated, or in the wrong format, the college will not admit you, even if you have been allotted a seat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Stray Round merit list?

The Stray Round merit list is a system-generated ranking of all candidates who applied for the Stray Round of MBBS/BDS counselling in Himachal Pradesh. It ranks candidates based on their NEET UG 2026 score and category. This merit list is used to allot seats in the Final Seat Allotment. Being on the merit list does NOT mean you have been allotted a seat — it means you are eligible to be considered for seat allotment.

How do I find my name and rank on the merit list?

Log in to the AMRU counselling portal using your application number and password. Download or view the merit list PDF. Use Ctrl+F (on computer) or the search function (on mobile) to find your name or application number. Your merit number (Merit No column) is your rank — a lower number means a higher rank and a better chance of getting your preferred seat.

What does 'Merit No' mean? Is it the same as my NEET rank?

No. Merit No is your rank in the Stray Round merit list for Himachal Pradesh — it determines the order in which you will be offered a seat. Your NEET All India Merit Rank (shown in the merit list) is your rank among all NEET UG 2026 candidates across India. These are two different numbers. Your Merit No is what matters for seat allotment in Himachal Pradesh.

I claimed a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS). What happens if my certificate is invalid or outdated?

If your category certificate is invalid, outdated, or not in the prescribed format, you will NOT be allowed to claim that category benefit during admission. You will be treated as a General candidate, and you may lose your seat if a General candidate with a higher rank is waiting for it. The notice warns: 'In case of any discrepancy, outdated/invalid certificate, or non-submission of the prescribed document, the candidate shall not be entitled to claim the benefit of the respective category/quota.' Check your certificate NOW and get it updated if needed.

What should I do if my name is NOT on the merit list?

If your name is not on the merit list, your application was either incomplete, rejected, or you did not meet the eligibility criteria. Log in to the AMRU portal and check your application status. If it shows 'Rejected', read the reason. If you believe the rejection is wrong, contact AMRU immediately at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or call 01905-243967. Do not wait — there may be a limited window to correct errors.

When will the Final Seat Allotment be declared?

The notice does not specify the exact date for Final Seat Allotment. It only says that after the merit list is finalized, the Final Seat Allotment will be declared. Keep checking the AMRU website (amruhp.ac.in) and your email for the announcement. Once Final Seat Allotment is declared, you will be able to download your Provisional Allotment Letter from your login.

Can I go to a college and ask for admission before the Final Seat Allotment is declared?

No. The notice explicitly states: 'Candidates are advised to approach the allotted college/institute only after the declaration of Final Seat Allotment and only after downloading the Provisional allotment letter from the candidate's login. Admission will not be considered without seat allocation of AMRU.' Do not go to any college until you have a provisional allotment letter from AMRU.

If I am allotted a seat, am I guaranteed admission?

No. The notice states: 'Provisional allotment of a seat, if any, shall not confer any right of admission, and the final eligibility/category claim shall be subject to verification and approval by the Admission Committee of the concerned Institute.' Even if you are allotted a seat, the college can reject your admission if your documents are invalid, your category claim is not verified, or you do not meet the eligibility criteria.

What documents do I need to bring to the college for admission?

Bring original copies of: NEET admit card and score card, 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates, passport-size photographs, ID proof (Aadhar/PAN/voter ID), domicile certificate (if claiming HP Quota), and any category-specific certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Defence/Single Girl Child/Backward Area/Disability/BPL). All certificates must be in the exact format specified in the AMRU prospectus. Missing or invalid documents will result in rejection of your admission.

What is the difference between HP Quota, Management Quota, and NRI Quota?

HP Quota is for Himachal Pradesh domiciled candidates and is merit-based. Management Quota is for seats that colleges fill through their own selection, typically at higher fees. NRI Quota is for Non-Resident Indians and is merit-based within the NRI category. Your quota determines which seats you are eligible for and how your rank is calculated.

I have a question about my category or my documents. Who should I contact?

Contact AMRU directly: Email coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com, Phone 01905-243967, or visit amruhp.ac.in. Have your application number and name ready. Do not rely on unofficial sources or rumors — always verify information directly with AMRU.

What does 'system generated' mean? Can there be errors in the merit list?

System generated means the merit list was created automatically by the counselling software based on the data in the system (your NEET score, category, documents, etc.). While the system is designed to be accurate, errors can occur — for example, if your documents were uploaded incorrectly or if there was a data entry mistake. If you believe there is an error in your entry on the merit list (wrong name, wrong score, wrong category), contact AMRU immediately with proof.

The merit list is now live. Your immediate action items are: (1) Find your name and merit rank on the list. (2) Verify that all your category and reservation certificates are valid, current, and in the exact format specified in the AMRU prospectus — if not, get them corrected NOW. (3) Prepare all your original documents for verification at the college. (4) Keep checking the AMRU website and your email for the announcement of Final Seat Allotment. (5) Do NOT approach any college until you have downloaded your Provisional Allotment Letter from your login after Final Seat Allotment is declared. Contact AMRU at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or 01905-243967 if you have any questions or if you believe there is an error in your entry.
