Atal Medical & Research University (AMRU), Himachal Pradesh, has released the official counselling schedule for the first round of MD/MS/DNB postgraduate medical admissions for the 2026-27 academic year. This is the state's centralized counselling process for broad-speciality postgraduate medical courses. The schedule outlines eight key milestones, starting with the opening of the online application form on 22 October 2026 and culminating in joining dates of 7–9 November 2026. Missing any deadline can result in loss of your seat.

This is the first and primary round of state-level counselling for postgraduate medical admissions in Himachal Pradesh for the 2026-27 academic year. It is run by Atal Medical & Research University (AMRU), which acts as the nodal agency for centralized counselling of MD, MS, and DNB (Diplomate of National Board) broad-speciality courses across government medical colleges in the state.
The counselling process is merit-based: your rank in NEET-PG 2026 determines your eligibility and the colleges and courses available to you. This round will allocate seats across all participating government medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. If seats remain unfilled after this round, the university may conduct additional rounds—so stay alert to the university website for any announcements.
Who is eligible to apply?
You are eligible if you have qualified in NEET-PG 2026 and hold a valid MBBS degree from a recognized medical college in India or abroad. The notice does not specify category-wise eligibility (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) or state-of-domicile rules in this document, so you must check the detailed prospectus or the university website (www.amruhp.ac.in) for those specifics.
If you are an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) or a foreign national, separate rules may apply—consult the university website or contact the Controller of Examinations directly at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or phone 01905-243967.
- NEET-PG 2026 qualified
- Valid MBBS degree from a recognized institution
- Indian or foreign national (NRI rules may differ)

Step 1: Filling the online application form (22–26 October)
The counselling process begins with the online application form. You must fill and submit your form between 22 October and 26 October 2026. This is a 5-day window—do not delay. The form will be available on the university portal (www.amruhp.ac.in). You will need to enter your NEET-PG roll number, registration details, and personal information.
Keep your NEET-PG admit card, score card, and MBBS degree certificate handy while filling the form. Once you submit, you cannot edit the form, so verify all details carefully before clicking submit. If you miss this deadline, you cannot participate in Round 1.
- Window: 22–26 October 2026 (5 days only)
- Portal: www.amruhp.ac.in
- Required: NEET-PG roll number, score, MBBS degree details
- No editing after submission—verify before submitting
Step 2 & 3: Merit lists (28 & 30 October)

Official round-wise closing ranks with fee and stipend, matched to your rank.
After the application window closes, the university will publish a Provisional Merit List on 28 October 2026. This list shows all candidates who have applied, ranked by their NEET-PG score. Check this list to confirm your name, rank, and score are correct. If you spot an error, report it immediately to the university.
The Final Merit List will be published on 30 October 2026. This is the official list used for seat allocation. Your rank on this list determines which colleges and courses are available to you. Once the Final Merit List is out, you cannot make changes to your application.
- Provisional Merit List: 28 October 2026 (for verification)
- Final Merit List: 30 October 2026 (official ranking for allotment)
- Check your name, rank, and score immediately
- Report errors to the university without delay
Step 4: Seat matrix display (30 October)
On the same day as the Final Merit List (30 October 2026), the university will display the Seat Matrix. This document shows exactly how many seats are available in each course (MD/MS/DNB), at each participating government medical college in Himachal Pradesh, and in each quota (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, etc.). The seat matrix is your roadmap for choosing.
Study the seat matrix carefully. It tells you which colleges are participating, which specialities they offer, and how many seats are available in your category. This information is essential for making informed choices in the next step. Download and save the seat matrix for reference.
- Published: 30 October 2026
- Shows: colleges, courses (MD/MS/DNB), seats per quota
- Use this to plan your choices
- Download and keep a copy
Step 5: Filling and locking your choices (31 October – 2 November)
This is the most important step for you. Between 31 October and 2 November 2026, you must log into the counselling portal and fill in your choices of course, college, and quota. You can list multiple preferences in order of priority. The allotment algorithm will match you to the highest-ranked choice for which you are eligible based on your merit rank and category.
Once you have entered all your choices, you must LOCK them. After locking, you cannot make any changes. This is a critical action—do not lock until you are 100% sure of your preferences. Many candidates regret locking too hastily. Take time to review the seat matrix, understand which colleges offer which specialities, and rank your choices strategically. If you do not lock your choices by 2 November, you will not be considered for allotment.
- Window: 31 October – 2 November 2026 (3 days)
- Action: Log in, enter course/college/quota choices in order of preference
- Critical: LOCK your choices before the deadline
- After locking, no changes are allowed
- Failure to lock = no allotment in this round
Step 6 & 7: Seat allotment (4 & 5 November)
After the choice-locking deadline, the university will run the allotment algorithm. A Provisional Allotment List will be published on 4 November 2026. This shows which seat (college, course, quota) has been tentatively allocated to you based on your merit rank and locked choices. Check this list immediately. If there is an error, report it to the university.
The Final Allotment List will be published on 5 November 2026. This is your official seat allocation. Once published, this allocation is binding—you must join the allotted college on the specified date. If you do not join, you may forfeit your seat and be barred from future rounds.
- Provisional Allotment: 4 November 2026 (for verification)
- Final Allotment: 5 November 2026 (official, binding allocation)
- Check your allotted college, course, and quota
- Report errors immediately
- Non-joining may result in forfeiture of seat
Step 8: Joining the allotted college (7 & 9 November)
You must join your allotted college on either 7 November or 9 November 2026. The exact date may depend on your allotted college or quota—check the Final Allotment List and the university website for your specific joining date. Joining means physically reporting to the college, submitting original documents, and completing admission formalities.
Bring all original documents: MBBS degree certificate, NEET-PG score card, admit card, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and any other documents specified by the college. Failure to join by the specified date will result in cancellation of your seat. If you have a genuine reason for delay, contact the college and the university immediately in writing.

Common mistakes that get applications rejected or seats cancelled
**Missing the application deadline (26 October):** If you do not submit your form by 26 October, you cannot participate in Round 1. There is no grace period. Mark this date in your calendar now.
**Not locking your choices by 2 November:** Many candidates fill in their choices but forget to lock them. If you do not lock, the system will not consider you for allotment, and you will lose your seat. Locking is a separate, mandatory action.
**Entering incorrect or incomplete information in the form:** Double-check your NEET-PG roll number, score, and MBBS degree details. A typo can cause your application to be rejected or your rank to be miscalculated.
**Not joining by the specified date:** If you are allotted a seat but do not join by 7 or 9 November, your seat will be cancelled. There is no second chance in the same round. If you have a genuine emergency, contact the university in writing immediately.
**Ignoring the seat matrix:** Some candidates choose colleges or courses that do not exist or have no seats in their category. Study the seat matrix carefully before locking your choices.
What happens after Round 1?
If seats remain unfilled after Round 1, the university may conduct a second round or mop-up round of counselling. The schedule for any subsequent round will be uploaded on the university website www.amruhp.ac.in. Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1 may be eligible to participate in the next round, depending on the university's rules.
The notice explicitly states: 'Any change or subsequent round counselling schedule, shall be uploaded on the University website www.amruhp.ac.in. Therefore, the candidates are advised to remain in touch regularly with the University website till the completion of admission process.' This means you must check the website regularly for updates.
- Subsequent rounds may be conducted if seats remain unfilled
- Schedule will be posted on www.amruhp.ac.in
- Check the website regularly for updates
- Do not assume the process is over after Round 1

What is the Seat Matrix and why is it important?
The Seat Matrix is a document published on 30 October that shows all participating colleges, the courses (MD/MS/DNB) they offer, and the number of seats available in each quota (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, etc.). You must study this carefully to decide which colleges and courses to choose. Without the seat matrix, you cannot make informed choices.
What does 'locking choices' mean, and why is it mandatory?
After you fill in your preferred colleges and courses (in order of priority) between 31 October and 2 November, you must click a 'Lock' button to finalize your choices. Once locked, you cannot edit them. Locking is mandatory—if you do not lock, the system will not consider you for allotment, and you will lose your seat.
When will I know which college and course I have been allotted?
The Provisional Allotment List will be published on 4 November 2026 for your verification. The Final Allotment List (your official allocation) will be published on 5 November 2026. You must check this list to find out your allotted college, course, and quota.

What documents do I need to bring when joining the college?
The notice does not specify the exact documents required for joining. However, you will typically need your MBBS degree certificate, NEET-PG score card and admit card, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and any other documents specified by the college. Check the Final Allotment Letter and contact your allotted college for a complete list.
Will there be a second round of counselling if I do not get a seat in Round 1?
The notice states that if seats remain unfilled after Round 1, the university may conduct additional rounds. The schedule for any subsequent round will be uploaded on the university website www.amruhp.ac.in. You must check the website regularly for updates.
Can I change my choices after locking them?
No. Once you lock your choices between 31 October and 2 November, you cannot edit or change them. This is why it is critical to review the seat matrix carefully and think through your preferences before locking.

If you spot an error on the Provisional Merit List (28 October), report it to the university immediately at coemedicaluniv.mandi@gmail.com or 01905-243967. Do not wait for the Final Merit List. Errors reported after the Final Merit List is published (30 October) may not be corrected.
