What is PGMAC Round 1 Seat Allotment?

PGMAC (Postgraduate Medical Admission Counselling) is Bihar's state-quota counselling process for postgraduate medical seats. Round 1 is the first allotment round, in which the BCECEB computer system matches your NEET-PG rank and your choice of colleges and specialties to available seats. The allotment is based on merit (your NEET-PG score and rank), your category (General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST), and the order in which you ranked your preferred colleges and specialties during choice-filling.

This Round 1 result shows which college and specialty you have been allotted. It does NOT mean you have been admitted yet—you must join the college and complete verification and admission formalities within the deadline. If you do not join, your seat will be cancelled and offered to the next candidate in the merit list.

How to Check Your Allotment Result

Visit the official BCECEB website: https://bceceboard.bihar.gov.in. Look for the link to 'PGMAC 2026 Round 1 Seat Allotment Result' or 'Allotment List'. You will need your NEET-PG roll number and password (or registration ID) to log in to the candidate portal.

Once logged in, download or view your allotment letter. The letter will show: your name, NEET-PG rank, the college allotted to you, the specialty (branch) allotted, the category under which you were allotted (UR, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, etc.), and any special remarks (such as 'Jump Over' or 'Compensation Seat'). Save and print this letter—you will need it for joining.

If you cannot access the portal, contact the BCECEB helpline or visit the office in person with your NEET-PG admit card and ID proof.

Understanding Your Allotment Letter

Your allotment letter contains several key pieces of information. Your 'NEET-PG Rank' is your all-India rank in NEET-PG. Your 'Category Rank' is your rank within your category (e.g., if you are OBC, it is your rank among all OBC candidates). The 'College' column shows which medical college in Bihar you have been allotted to. The 'Branch' or 'Specialty' column shows which postgraduate course you will study (e.g., General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Radiodiagnosis, etc.).

The 'Allotted Category' column shows the category of seat you have been given. For example, 'UR Against UR Category Seat' means you were allotted a General (Unreserved) seat. 'OBC Jump Over on OBC Seat' means you are an OBC candidate and have been allotted an OBC-reserved seat. 'Compensation Seat' means the seat was offered to you because a higher-ranked candidate did not join. Pay close attention to this column—it affects your eligibility and your right to the seat.

The 'Remark' column may show 'Against UR Category Seat (Degree)' or 'Against UR Category Seat (Diploma)' or 'DNB-Degree' or 'DNB-Diploma'. This tells you whether your seat is for an MD/MS degree course or a DNB degree course, or a diploma course. Ensure this matches what you applied for.

  • NEET-PG Rank: your all-India merit rank
  • Category Rank: your rank within your reserved category
  • College: the medical college assigned to you
  • Branch/Specialty: the postgraduate course you will study
  • Allotted Category: the type of seat (UR, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, Compensation, etc.)
  • Course Type: Degree (MD/MS) or Diploma or DNB

**UR (Unreserved) Seat**: Open to all candidates, regardless of caste or economic status. Allotted by merit rank alone.

**OBC (Other Backward Class) Seat**: Reserved for OBC candidates. You must have a valid OBC certificate issued by the competent authority in your state. The certificate must show your OBC sub-group (if applicable under state rules).

**EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Seat**: Reserved for candidates from economically weaker sections. You must have a valid EWS certificate issued after 1 April 2019 (or as per state rules). The certificate must show your annual family income.

**SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe) Seats**: Reserved for SC and ST candidates. You must have a valid SC/ST certificate issued by the competent authority.

**RCG (Resident Candidate Group) Seat**: Some states reserve seats for candidates who are domiciled in that state. Bihar may use this category. Check your allotment letter to see if this applies to you.

**Jump Over**: This term appears when a candidate from a reserved category (e.g., OBC) is allotted a seat reserved for that category, even though their merit rank would have qualified them for an unreserved seat. This is allowed under reservation rules.

**Compensation Seat**: This seat is offered when a higher-ranked candidate does not join. It is a one-time offer and does not guarantee future rounds. If you are allotted a Compensation Seat, you must join immediately, as it may not be available in the next round.

The exact specialty available depends on the college and the number of seats reserved for that specialty.

What to Do If You Are Allotted a Seat

**Step 1: Verify Your Allotment.** Check your allotment letter carefully. Confirm that the college, specialty, and category are correct. If there is an error, contact BCECEB immediately with proof (your choice-filling screenshot, NEET-PG admit card, etc.).

**Step 2: Gather Required Documents.** Prepare all documents needed for joining: your NEET-PG admit card, allotment letter, MBBS degree certificate and mark sheet, MBBS provisional pass certificate (if degree is not yet conferred), medical registration certificate (from the state medical council), category certificate (OBC/EWS/SC/ST, if applicable), domicile certificate (if required), identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, passport), and passport-size photographs. Ensure all certificates are original and attested copies.

**Step 3: Report to Your College by the Deadline.** The BCECEB will announce a joining deadline (usually 3–7 days from the allotment date). You MUST report to your allotted college on or before this date. Failure to join will result in cancellation of your seat. Report to the college's admission office with your allotment letter and documents.

**Step 4: Complete Admission Formalities.** Once at the college, you will undergo document verification, fee payment, and registration. The college will issue you an admission letter and enroll you in the postgraduate course. Do not delay this process.

**Step 5: Keep Copies of All Documents.** Retain copies of your allotment letter, admission letter, fee receipt, and all submitted documents for your records and for future reference (e.g., for degree verification).

  • Verify allotment details immediately
  • Collect all required documents (MBBS degree, medical registration, category certificate, etc.)
  • Report to your college by the joining deadline
  • Complete document verification and fee payment
  • Obtain admission letter and enroll in the course
  • Keep copies of all documents

The allotment result was released on **6 November 2026**. BCECEB will announce the joining deadline separately—typically candidates are given 3 to 7 days to join their allotted college. Check the BCECEB website or your email for the exact joining deadline. Missing this deadline will result in automatic cancellation of your seat.

If you do not join in Round 1, you may be eligible for Round 2 counselling (if announced). However, Round 2 seats are usually fewer and lower-ranked. It is strongly advised to join in Round 1 if you are allotted a seat you are satisfied with.

  • Allotment result released: 6 November 2026
  • Joining deadline: To be announced by BCECEB (typically 3–7 days from allotment)
  • Round 2 counselling: May be announced later (if seats remain unfilled)

Common Mistakes That Get Your Seat Cancelled

**Not Joining by the Deadline.** This is the most common reason for seat cancellation. Even if you are unsure about the college or specialty, you must join by the deadline. You can request a transfer or adjustment in later rounds if needed. Once the deadline passes, your seat is forfeited.

**Submitting Incomplete or Incorrect Documents.** If your MBBS degree certificate, medical registration certificate, or category certificate is missing, expired, or does not match your application, your admission will be rejected. Ensure all documents are original, attested, and current.

**Wrong Category Certificate.** If you claim OBC but submit a certificate that does not match the state's OBC list, or if your EWS certificate is issued before 1 April 2019, it will be rejected. Category certificates must be issued by the competent authority and must be valid.

**Failing Document Verification.** If the college's verification committee finds that your documents do not match your application (e.g., your name is spelled differently, your date of birth does not match), your admission may be cancelled. Double-check all documents before submission.

**Not Paying the Admission Fee on Time.** Colleges require payment of the admission fee (tuition and hostel fees, if applicable) within a specified time. Failure to pay will result in cancellation of your seat.

**Forging or Submitting False Documents.** This is a serious offense and can result in criminal prosecution, permanent blacklisting from medical education, and cancellation of your MBBS degree. Never submit false or forged documents.

  • Missing the joining deadline
  • Incomplete or incorrect documents
  • Invalid or expired category certificate
  • Documents that do not match your application
  • Failure to pay admission fee
  • Forged or false documents

What If You Are Not Allotted a Seat in Round 1?

If your name does not appear in the allotment result, it means you were not allotted a seat in Round 1. This can happen if: (a) your NEET-PG rank is below the cutoff for the colleges and specialties you chose; (b) you did not fill your choice form correctly; (c) there were no seats available in your category for your chosen colleges; or (d) you did not meet the eligibility criteria (e.g., your MBBS degree was not recognized).

**Do Not Panic.** BCECEB typically conducts multiple rounds of counselling. In Round 2, more seats may become available as candidates who joined in Round 1 may not complete their admission, or new seats may be added. You will be eligible for Round 2 if you registered for PGMAC counselling.

**Check Your Eligibility.** Contact BCECEB to confirm that your NEET-PG score and MBBS degree were accepted. If there is an error, file a complaint immediately with supporting documents.

**Prepare for Round 2.** When Round 2 counselling is announced, fill your choice form again. This time, you may choose colleges and specialties with lower cutoffs, or you may choose to participate in a different state's counselling if you are eligible.

  • Check BCECEB website for Round 2 announcement
  • Verify your eligibility and NEET-PG score
  • File a complaint if you believe there is an error
  • Prepare to fill your choice form again in Round 2

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my PGMAC Round 1 allotment result?

Visit https://bceceboard.bihar.gov.in, log in with your NEET-PG roll number and password, and download your allotment letter. Your result will show your allotted college, specialty, and category. If you cannot access the portal, contact BCECEB with your NEET-PG admit card and ID proof.

What does 'Jump Over' mean in my allotment letter?

'Jump Over' means you are a reserved-category candidate (e.g., OBC, EWS, SC, ST) and have been allotted a seat reserved for your category, even though your merit rank would have qualified you for an unreserved seat. This is allowed under reservation rules and does not affect your admission.

What is a 'Compensation Seat' and should I accept it?

A Compensation Seat is offered when a higher-ranked candidate does not join. It is a one-time offer and may not be available in future rounds. If you accept a Compensation Seat, you must join immediately. If you are unsure, contact BCECEB for advice, but remember that missing the joining deadline will result in cancellation of your seat.

What documents do I need to bring when I join my allotted college?

Bring your NEET-PG admit card, allotment letter, MBBS degree certificate and mark sheet, MBBS provisional pass certificate (if degree not yet conferred), medical registration certificate, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate (if required), identity proof (Aadhaar, PAN, passport), and passport-size photographs. Ensure all certificates are original and attested copies.

What is the joining deadline, and what happens if I miss it?

BCECEB will announce the joining deadline separately, typically 3–7 days from the allotment date. If you do not report to your college by this deadline, your seat will be automatically cancelled and offered to the next candidate. There is usually no extension, so mark the deadline in your calendar and plan to join on time.

Can I change my allotted college or specialty after joining?

After joining, you cannot change your college or specialty in Round 1. However, if you are dissatisfied, you may be eligible to participate in Round 2 counselling (if announced) and choose a different college or specialty. But this is not guaranteed, and you may not get a seat in Round 2. It is best to join in Round 1 if you are allotted a seat.

What if my allotment letter has an error (wrong college, specialty, or name)?

Contact BCECEB immediately with proof of the error (your choice-filling screenshot, NEET-PG admit card, etc.). File a formal complaint and request correction. Do not ignore errors, as they can affect your admission. However, do not delay joining—if the error is minor (e.g., spelling of name), join first and request correction after admission.

I am not allotted a seat in Round 1. What should I do?

Check the BCECEB website for Round 2 counselling announcement. Verify that your NEET-PG score and MBBS degree were accepted. If there is an error, file a complaint immediately. When Round 2 is announced, fill your choice form again, choosing colleges and specialties with lower cutoffs. You may also explore counselling in other states if you are eligible.

What is the difference between MD/MS Degree, DNB Degree, and Diploma courses?

MD/MS Degree courses are 3-year postgraduate programs offered by government and private medical colleges, leading to an MD or MS degree. DNB Degree courses are 3-year programs offered by DNB-accredited institutions, leading to a DNB qualification (equivalent to MD/MS). Diploma courses are 2-year programs leading to a diploma qualification. All three are recognized postgraduate qualifications, but MD/MS and DNB Degree are preferred for further specialization.

Can I appeal against my allotment if I am not satisfied?

You cannot appeal against your allotment in Round 1. However, you can choose not to join and wait for Round 2 counselling. If you believe there is an error in your allotment (e.g., wrong college or specialty due to a system error), file a formal complaint with BCECEB with supporting documents. Otherwise, you must accept your allotment or forfeit your seat.

What happens to my seat if I join late (after the deadline)?

If you join after the deadline, your seat will have been cancelled and offered to the next candidate. You will not be admitted. The college will not hold your seat beyond the deadline. It is critical to join on time. If you have a genuine emergency, contact BCECEB before the deadline to request an extension (though extensions are rarely granted).

Is my OBC/EWS/SC/ST certificate valid for PGMAC counselling?

Your category certificate must be issued by the competent authority (District Magistrate or equivalent) and must be current (not expired). For EWS, the certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2019. For OBC, the certificate must match the state's OBC list. For SC/ST, the certificate must be issued by the competent authority. If your certificate is invalid, your category claim will be rejected and you will be treated as a General candidate.

Your PGMAC Round 1 allotment result is now live. Check your allotment letter immediately on the BCECEB portal. If you are allotted a seat, gather all required documents and report to your college by the joining deadline—typically within 3–7 days of allotment. Missing the deadline will result in cancellation of your seat. If you are not allotted in Round 1, wait for Round 2 counselling announcement and prepare to fill your choice form again. For any queries or errors, contact BCECEB at the earliest.
