Critical Eligibility Rules & Traps
Every kind of PG seat, one rank
See the real seats your NEET-PG rank can reach.
⚠️ TRAP 1 — Grace Marks: If you passed your MBBS or speciality exam with grace marks, only your actual marks (not the grace marks) will be counted for merit ranking. This can significantly affect your position in the merit list.
⚠️ TRAP 2 — Failure Marks: You must produce your failure marks sheet if you failed any exam. If you cannot produce it, you will be declared ineligible. This applies even if you later passed.
⚠️ TRAP 3 — Foreign Graduates: If you are a foreign medical graduate, your marks from the MCI-conducted Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) will be used for all calculations — not your degree marks. Make sure you have your FMGE score certificate.
⚠️ TRAP 4 — Non-Creamy Layer Certificate: If you claim OBC reservation but do not submit a valid Non-Creamy Layer caste certificate at document verification, you will automatically be reclassified as Unreserved (UR). This can drop you significantly in the merit list.
⚠️ TRAP 5 — Result After Deadline: If your exam result was declared after the application deadline, it will not be considered. The last date of the month in which your exam was held is treated as your passing date.
⚠️ TRAP 6 — Affidavit Required: Every eligible candidate must submit an affidavit stating that they have never been appointed and completed a 3-year tenure as Senior Resident or Tutor in the applied specialty. False affidavits can lead to legal action.
- Grace marks are NOT counted — only actual marks
- Failure marks sheet must be produced or you are ineligible
- Foreign graduates: FMGE marks used, not degree marks
- OBC without Non-Creamy Layer certificate = reclassified as UR
- Results declared after deadline = not considered
- Affidavit required: never completed 3-year SR/Tutor tenure in this specialty
Seat Matrix & Specialties
The notice includes a detailed seat matrix showing the distribution of 575 posts across 10 medical colleges and 10 specialties. The specialties are: Anatomy, Paediatrics, Medicine, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, and two others. Each specialty has a different number of posts at each college, and each post is further divided by reservation category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD).
For example, Anatomy at one college may have 9 posts (4 UR, 1 SC, 1 ST, 2 OBC, 1 EWS), while Paediatrics at the same college may have 7 posts (3 UR, 0 SC, 1 ST, 2 OBC, 1 EWS). The exact breakdown is shown in the seat matrix table in the notice. Study this table carefully to understand how many posts are available in your specialty and college of choice, and how many are reserved for your category.
- Total posts: 575 across 10 medical colleges
- Specialties: Anatomy, Paediatrics, Medicine, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, and others
- Each post reserved by category: UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD
- Refer to detailed seat matrix in the notice for exact distribution
Merit Ranking & Scoring
Merit ranking is based on your academic performance. The notice specifies how marks are calculated. For candidates with an MD/MS/DNB in a broad speciality, marks are awarded for: (a) MBBS performance (marks from all three parts), (b) speciality degree performance (MD/MS/DNB marks), and (c) experience (if any). For candidates with a super-speciality (DM/MCH/DrNB), additional points are awarded for the super-speciality qualification.
The exact scoring formula is complex and depends on your qualification path. For example, a candidate with MD Medicine directly after MBBS gets points for both MBBS and MD. A candidate with DM Cardiology after MD Medicine gets points for MBBS, MD, and DM. The notice states that candidates with super-speciality directly after MBBS (without an intermediate broad-speciality) are awarded 20 points (10 for PG + 10 for super-speciality), the same as candidates who did the broad-speciality first. Candidates working as lecturer or assistant professor without SR/Tutor experience are also eligible and ranked accordingly.
- Merit based on MBBS marks, speciality degree marks, and experience
- Super-speciality qualifications awarded additional points
- Direct super-speciality after MBBS: 20 points (10 PG + 10 super-speciality)
- Lecturers/Asst. Professors without SR/Tutor: eligible and ranked
Important Notes & Special Rules
Recognized and permitted medical institutes and colleges are treated the same way — there is no distinction in merit ranking. If you joined service (i.e., started working as a BHS/lecturer/assistant professor) before the application deadline, you are considered as BHS for all purposes. If you have a higher qualification (super-speciality) in a related course, it will be considered for awarding merit points. Candidates with a broad-speciality PG (MD/MS) who apply for Senior Resident posts in a related or allied super-speciality subject are eligible for super-speciality SR positions.
For example, an MD Medicine candidate can apply for Senior Resident in Geriatrics (a super-speciality related to Medicine). All candidates who have completed a super-speciality (DM/MCH) directly after MBBS are awarded 20 points, the same as those who did the broad-speciality first. The notice also clarifies that candidates working as lecturer or assistant professor (without having done SR/Tutor) are eligible for SR/Tutor posts. Finally, if you have not submitted a Non-Creamy Layer caste certificate during counselling or document verification, you will be treated as UR.
- Recognized and permitted institutes treated equally
- If joined service before deadline: considered as BHS for all purposes
- Higher qualifications (super-speciality) considered for merit points
- MD/MS candidates eligible for related super-speciality SR posts
- Super-speciality directly after MBBS: 20 points (same as broad-speciality first)
- Lecturers/Asst. Professors without SR/Tutor: eligible
- No Non-Creamy Layer certificate: reclassified as UR

What is the application deadline, and what happens if I miss it?
Online registration closes on 23 November 2026 at 10:00 PM, and payment must be completed by 23 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. If you miss this deadline, your application will be rejected automatically. The notice explicitly states that no request for extension will be entertained, and you will be solely responsible. Do not wait until the last day — complete your application well in advance to avoid internet or banking issues.
I have an OBC caste certificate but no Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate. Can I still apply?
You can apply, but if you do not submit a valid Non-Creamy Layer certificate at document verification, you will be automatically reclassified as Unreserved (UR). This means you will lose your OBC reservation and compete in the UR category, which will significantly lower your chances of getting a seat. Obtain your NCL certificate from the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, or Circle Officer of your permanent residence district in Bihar before document verification.
I passed my MBBS with grace marks. Will those grace marks be counted in my merit ranking?
No. Only your actual marks (not the grace marks) will be counted for merit ranking. If you passed with grace marks, make sure you have your original mark sheet showing the actual marks obtained, and bring it to document verification.
I am a foreign medical graduate. What marks will be used for my merit ranking?
Your marks from the MCI-conducted Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) will be used for all calculations — not your degree marks. Bring your FMGE score certificate to document verification.
I am currently working as an assistant professor. Am I eligible to apply for Senior Resident?
Yes. The notice states that candidates working as lecturer or assistant professor (without having done a Senior Resident or Tutor tenure) are eligible for SR/Tutor posts. However, you must bring an attested 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) from your employer at document verification.
I have already completed a 3-year Senior Resident tenure in Medicine. Can I apply for Senior Resident in Psychiatry?
No. The notice states that every eligible candidate must submit an affidavit stating that they have never been appointed and completed a 3-year tenure as Senior Resident or Tutor in the applied specialty. If you have already completed a 3-year SR tenure in any specialty, you are not eligible for another SR post in a different specialty.
What is the application fee, and can it be refunded?
The application fee is ₹2,250 for all candidates (UR, EWS, EBC, BC, SC, ST, PwD). This fee is non-refundable. You must pay online using Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. An additional processing charge will be levied by the payment gateway.
My payment was debited from my account, but the transaction failed. What should I do?
You must re-pay the full ₹2,250 fee immediately and ensure the payment goes through by 23 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. If your payment does not reflect in the BCECEB's account by the deadline, your application will be rejected. Your failed transaction will be refunded to your account in due course. For payment issues, contact Billdesk (bangalorepgsd@billdesk.com) or ICICI Bank (cmssupport@icici.bank.in), or call 0612-2220230.
Can I change my email or mobile number after registration?
No. The notice explicitly states: 'Under no circumstances, the mobile no. and email address will be changed during the entire session after verification of mobile number and email address.' Use only your own email or your father's/mother's email, and your own mobile number during registration. Verify both immediately, as you cannot change them later.
When will document verification happen, and what documents must I bring?
The date of document verification will be announced later on the BCECEB website. You must bring all original certificates and one extra photocopy of each. The notice lists 18 specific documents, including MBBS mark sheets, speciality degree certificates, medical registration certificate, caste certificate (with Non-Creamy Layer for OBC), residential certificate, four identical photographs, and others. Missing even one document can result in rejection.
I have a DM (super-speciality) in Cardiology after MD Medicine. How many merit points will I get?
You will get points for MBBS, MD Medicine, and DM Cardiology. The notice states that candidates with super-speciality qualifications in related courses are considered for awarding merit points. Additionally, if you did your DM directly after MBBS (without an intermediate MD/MS), you would get 20 points (10 for PG + 10 for super-speciality). Since you did MD first, your points will be calculated accordingly based on your marks in each qualification.
What happens if I do not submit my application form and payment by the deadline?
Your application will be rejected automatically, and you will not be eligible to participate in the counselling process. The notice states: 'If candidates does not do the final submission of the application form and payment of Counselling Fee within prescribed date & time, then their filled up application form will get rejected, for which candidate will be himself solely responsible and no any request will be entertained regarding this.' Do not wait until the last moment.
Register online immediately at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in. Complete your application, pay the ₹2,250 fee, and submit by 23 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. Edit your application by 24 November 2026 at 11:59 PM if needed. Gather all 18 required documents and wait for the document verification date announcement.
