What is this merit list?

This is the provisional (temporary) merit list prepared by the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam for NEET UG 2026 counselling. It ranks all candidates who have qualified in NEET UG 2026 and are eligible to compete for the 85% state-quota MBBS and BDS seats in Assam government and private medical and dental colleges affiliated to Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Guwahati.

The list is 'provisional' because it is released for candidate verification before being finalized. Candidates have a window to report errors in their personal details, scores or rank. After this verification period closes, DME will release the final merit list, which will be used for all counselling rounds and seat allotments.

Who appears on this list?

Every candidate who appeared in NEET UG 2026 and meets the basic eligibility criteria for Assam state-quota counselling is ranked on this merit list. Eligibility typically includes Indian citizenship, Assam domicile (as per state rules), and a valid NEET UG 2026 score. Candidates are ranked by their NEET score in descending order — highest score gets rank 1.

The list covers both MBBS and BDS courses. Candidates will use this single merit list to apply for both MBBS and BDS seats during counselling, depending on their choice and rank.

How to check your rank and details

Visit the official DME Assam website (dme.assam.gov.in) and download the provisional merit list PDF. Search for your name, NEET roll number or registration number in the list. Note your rank, score, category (if applicable) and any other details shown against your entry.

What to do if you find an error

If your name, roll number, NEET score, rank or category is incorrect on the provisional list, you must report it to DME Assam immediately. Do not wait for the final list — errors reported now can be corrected before counselling begins. Contact DME through the official portal or the email/phone number provided in the notice.

Common errors include misspelled names, wrong category classification, or score mismatches. Gather your NEET admit card, registration confirmation and any other proof of your correct details before filing a complaint. DME will investigate and issue a corrected entry if the error is valid.

What happens next?

After the verification window closes, DME will release the final merit list incorporating all corrections. Counselling rounds will then begin in order of merit rank. Candidates will be called to register and choose colleges and courses based on their rank, category and the available seats.

Keep checking the DME Assam portal for announcements of the final merit list date, counselling registration dates, and the schedule for each round. Missing a deadline can result in loss of your seat.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'provisional' merit list mean?

Provisional means the list is temporary and subject to correction. It is released for candidates to verify their details before being finalized. After the verification period, DME will release the final merit list, which will be used for actual counselling and seat allotment.

How is the merit list ranked?

Candidates are ranked in descending order of their NEET UG 2026 score — the highest score gets rank 1, the next highest gets rank 2, and so on. Ties (same score) are broken according to DME's tiebreaker rules, which are usually based on age or other criteria specified in the counselling prospectus.

Does this list include 15% all-India quota seats?

No. This is the Assam state-quota merit list covering 85% of seats in Assam medical and dental colleges. The 15% all-India quota seats are managed separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and have their own merit list and counselling process.

Can I see the merit list if I am not from Assam?

This list is for Assam state-quota counselling, which is typically restricted to Assam domicile candidates. If you are not domiciled in Assam, you are not eligible for state-quota seats and will not appear on this list. You can apply for all-India quota seats through MCC counselling instead.

What if my name is not on the provisional merit list?

If your name does not appear, it could mean you did not qualify in NEET UG 2026, you do not meet the eligibility criteria for Assam state-quota counselling, or there is an administrative error. Contact DME Assam immediately with your NEET roll number and registration details to clarify your status.

When will the final merit list be released?

The notice does not specify the exact date for the final merit list. Check the DME Assam portal regularly for an announcement. The final list will be released after the verification window for the provisional list closes.

Can I apply for both MBBS and BDS using this merit list?

Yes. This single merit list covers both MBBS and BDS courses. During counselling, you can choose to apply for either or both, depending on your preference and the available seats in your rank range.

What documents do I need to bring to counselling?

The provisional merit list itself does not specify documents. However, you will typically need your NEET admit card, 10th and 12th mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and other documents as per the counselling prospectus. Check the DME Assam website for the complete list of required documents.

Is this merit list final or can it change?

This is provisional and can change. Corrections reported during the verification window will be incorporated into the final list. Once the final list is released, it is used for counselling, but individual corrections may still be possible if errors are discovered later.

How do I know my exact rank?

Your rank is shown directly against your name on the merit list. Download the PDF from the DME Assam portal and search for your name using the browser's search function. Your rank will be listed next to your entry.

Download the provisional merit list from dme.assam.gov.in immediately and verify your name, roll number, score and rank. If you find any error, report it to DME Assam without delay. Keep the portal bookmarked and check regularly for announcements of the final merit list and counselling dates.
