Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Vijayawada has opened web options for Phase-I MBBS counselling for the 2026–27 academic year. This round is exclusively for NRI (Non-Resident Indian) category seats across three types of institutions: new government medical colleges, private un-aided medical colleges (both minority and non-minority), and Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women. Candidates whose names appear in the Final Merit Position list displayed on 27 September 2026 and who are eligible for NRI seats must exercise their college preferences online between 6:00 PM on 27 September and 5:00 PM on 28 September 2026. This is a critical step—once submitted, options cannot be changed, and failure to report by the deadline will result in automatic cancellation of admission.

What is this counselling round and who can participate?

This is Phase-I of the MBBS counselling process for the 2026–27 academic year, specifically for NRI category seats. It follows the earlier notification dated 13 September 2026 and is open only to candidates whose names appear in the Final Merit Position list displayed on 27 September 2026 and who have been marked as eligible for NRI category seats.

The round covers three categories of institutions: (1) Competent Authority (NRI Category) seats in new government medical colleges permitted from 2023–24 onwards; (2) Management Quota Category-C (NRI) seats in private un-aided non-minority and minority medical colleges affiliated to Dr. NTRUHS; and (3) NRI category seats in Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women (under SVIMS), Tirupati.

A total of 727 NRI seats are available across all three categories: 136 in government colleges, 546 in private non-minority colleges, and 45 in private minority colleges and SVIMS women's college combined.

Important dates and web options schedule

The notification for web options was issued on 27 September 2026. Candidates must exercise their web options during a strictly defined window: from 6:00 PM on 27 September 2026 to 5:00 PM on 28 September 2026. This is a 23-hour window only—do not miss it.

The web options portal is https://drntr.uhsap.in. Candidates will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on their registered mobile number and email when they log in and submit their options. After submission, no changes are permitted. If you do not report to your allotted college by the date and time specified in your allotment order, your admission will be cancelled automatically.

Who is eligible for NRI category seats?

Eligibility for NRI seats is strictly defined. You must fall into one of the following categories and provide supporting documents to prove your status. The university will verify all original certificates at the time of admission; any discrepancy, ineligibility, or false documents will result in immediate cancellation of your seat without notice, and further action will be taken against you.

An 'Actual NRI Candidate' is a person who holds a valid NRI status as defined by Indian law. Foreign students and OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card holders, including PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) card holders, are also eligible—but note that candidates who registered as PIO or OCI on or after 4 March 2021 are eligible only for NRI seats and cannot compete for seats reserved exclusively for Indian citizens.

Children or blood relatives of NRIs are eligible if they meet specific criteria. Eligible relatives include: real uncles and aunts (father's siblings), real maternal uncles and aunts (mother's siblings), grandfathers and grandmothers (paternal and maternal), and first-degree cousins (paternal and maternal). The NRI relative must ordinarily reside abroad and must have acted as your guardian; you must provide evidence of this guardianship.

All candidates opting for NRI seats must submit a formal declaration and all required documents proving their NRI status or relationship to an NRI. Failure to provide correct documentation or any discrepancy discovered during verification will result in seat cancellation.

How to exercise web options: step-by-step process

First, verify that your name appears in the Final Merit Position list displayed on 27 September 2026 on the university website https://drntr.uhsap.in. Only candidates in this list and marked as eligible for NRI seats can proceed.

Log in to the web options portal using your credentials. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number and email. Enter this OTP to proceed. Do not share your login details, email ID, or OTP with anyone—you are wholly responsible for any misuse of your credentials and for any options exercised from your login.

Review the Seat Matrix displayed on the website to see how many NRI seats are available at each college. Then rank the colleges in order of your preference. You must exercise options for interested medical colleges in priority order—your first choice is your highest priority, your second choice is your next priority, and so on. Allotments will be made strictly according to your priority ranking and merit position.

Before submitting, read the user manual carefully and review your choices. Once you submit your options, they are final. No request for change of options or reordering of college priorities will be entertained after the web options window closes. Take a printout of your saved options for your records.

Submit your options before 5:00 PM on 28 September 2026. After submission, you will receive a confirmation message. If a seat is allotted to you, you will receive a message on your registered mobile and email.

University fee and how to download your allotment order

If you are allotted a seat, you must download your allotment order by paying a University fee of Rs 70,100. This fee is the same for all candidates, regardless of whether you are allotted a seat in a government or private college. Payment must be made online through the Payment Gateway using a debit card, credit card, or internet banking.

The University fee of Rs 70,100 is non-refundable and will not be adjusted to any future date under any circumstances. Once you have paid this fee and downloaded your allotment order, you must report to the Principal of your allotted college with the allotment order and all original certificates before the date and time specified in the allotment order.

If you fail to report by the deadline specified in your allotment order, your admission will be cancelled automatically. There is no grace period and no exceptions.

Tuition fees by college type and institution

Tuition fees vary significantly depending on the type of college and institution. For government medical colleges, the tuition fee is Rs 20 lakhs per annum. For private un-aided colleges, fees range from Rs 23.75 lakhs to Rs 43.56 lakhs per annum, depending on the specific college. For Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women (SVIMS), the fee is Rs 25 lakhs per annum.

Important: These are interim fees for 2026–27 and are subject to the outcome of pending court cases (W.P. Nos. 32975, 33162, and 35090 of 2022). Fees may change if the court orders are modified. Additionally, as per National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations, you must pay tuition fees for 4½ years at the time of admission, not year by year.

Complete list of colleges and available NRI seats

A total of 727 NRI seats are available across government, private non-minority, and private minority medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh. The following table lists all colleges participating in Phase-I NRI counselling, along with the number of NRI seats available at each institution. Use this table to identify which colleges have seats and to plan your college preferences.

Government colleges have 136 NRI seats total (15% of their intake). Private non-minority colleges have 546 NRI seats. Private minority colleges have 45 NRI seats combined. When exercising your web options, rank these colleges in order of your preference based on location, reputation, and your merit position.

Critical rules about joining and not joining your allotted seat

If you are allotted a seat in Phase-I and you do not join (report) at the allotted college by the deadline specified in your allotment order, that seat will not be available to you in Phase-II or any subsequent counselling round. You will be allowed to participate in Phase-II counselling, but you cannot opt for the college where you were allotted in Phase-I.

If you were previously allotted a seat under Management Quota Category-B1, B2, or Government-SF in an earlier phase and you did not join that seat, you cannot now opt for an NRI seat at the same college. This rule prevents candidates from blocking multiple seats.

If you were allotted a seat under Management Quota in Phase-I and you did not join, that particular seat will not be available for you to exercise web options for NRI category seats in Phase-II or later. The university is strict about this to ensure fair allocation.

Conversely, if you were previously allotted a seat under Management Quota Category-B1, B2, or Government-SF and you did join that seat, you are eligible to opt for NRI seats in this Phase-I round, except at the college where you already reported. If you are selected for an NRI seat, you must report with a custodian certificate from Dr. NTR UHS and all relevant NRI documents within the stipulated schedule.

• If you do not join Phase-I allotted seat, you cannot opt for it in Phase-II or later
• If you did not join a Management Quota seat in an earlier phase, you cannot opt for NRI seat at that same college
• Candidates who joined Management Quota seats can opt for NRI seats at other colleges

What happens to vacant NRI seats and future counselling rounds

NRI quota seats that remain vacant after all NRI applicants have exhausted their choices will be converted to 'NRI lapsed seats' and filled only in Phase-III (Mop Up) or subsequent counselling rounds. This means if you do not get an NRI seat in Phase-I or Phase-II, you may still have a chance in Phase-III if seats remain.

In Phase-III and subsequent counselling rounds, NRI applicants (those who qualified as NRI in the merit list) will be considered first for any remaining NRI seats. Only after all NRI applicants have been considered will NRI lapsed seats be offered to other eligible candidates. This prioritization ensures that NRI seats are reserved for NRI-eligible candidates as long as possible.

Next rounds of counselling will be conducted for unfilled seats in Phase-I and for seats that were allotted but not joined (not reported) after Phase-I. If you do not get a seat in Phase-I, you will have opportunities in Phase-II and Phase-III, provided you remain eligible and do not violate any rules.

• Vacant NRI seats → converted to NRI lapsed seats
• NRI lapsed seats filled in Phase-III (Mop Up) or later only
• Phase-III: NRI applicants considered first, then NRI lapsed applicants
• Phase-II and Phase-III will cover unfilled Phase-I seats and not-joined seats
• Candidates can participate in Phase-II if they did not join Phase-I (but cannot re-opt that college)

Important traps and rules that can get your seat cancelled

**False or discrepant documents:** The university has allotted seats based on documents you uploaded without verifying originals. Original certificates will be verified at the time of admission at your college. If any discrepancy is found, if you are found ineligible, or if false documents are discovered, your seat will be immediately cancelled without notice and further action will be taken against you. This is non-negotiable. Ensure every document you upload is genuine and matches your actual status.

**Seat blocking:** Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences does not entertain or support seat blocking or cancellation of MBBS seats. If you are found involved in seat blocking (e.g., accepting a seat and then cancelling it to prevent others from getting it, or accepting multiple seats), legal action will be initiated against you as per rules. Do not attempt this.

**Sharing login credentials:** Your login details, email ID, and OTP are your responsibility alone. If you share them with anyone and options are exercised from your login without your knowledge, you are still wholly responsible. Do not share these details with anyone, including agents or consultants.

**Withdrawal after admission:** If you want to withdraw from the course after admissions close and the course has begun, you must submit a request through the Principal of your college along with a course discontinuation fee of Rs 3,00,000 payable to the university by demand draft. Requests sent directly to the university will not be entertained. Plan carefully before joining.

**Minority college eligibility:** Only Muslim minority candidates are eligible to exercise web options for Management quota seats in un-aided private minority medical colleges. If Muslim minority candidates are not available, seats will be allotted to non-Muslim minority candidates only in the Stray Vacancy Round (Phase-III or later). Muslim minority candidates are also eligible for Management quota seats in other (non-minority) colleges.

Documents you must have ready and bring to college

Before exercising web options, ensure you have all documents required to prove your NRI eligibility. At the time of admission, you must produce all relevant documents as per that notification and the prospectus.

At minimum, NRI candidates must bring: (1) proof of NRI status (passport, NRI certificate, or equivalent); (2) if you are a child or relative of an NRI, proof of relationship and evidence that the NRI has acted as your guardian; (3) all original certificates (10th, 12th, NEET scorecard, etc.); (4) any bonds or undertakings required; and (5) the allotment order downloaded after paying the university fee.

The university will verify all original certificates at the time of admission. Any discrepancy or ineligibility discovered will result in immediate cancellation of your seat. Do not attempt to submit false or altered documents.
