The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the official Candidate User Guide for NEET UG 2026 counselling, a comprehensive 56-page manual covering every step of the admission process. This guide walks candidates through registration, filling the application form, uploading documents, selecting and locking college choices, understanding seat allotment results, submitting willingness for upgradation, and managing withdrawals. Whether you are applying for MBBS or BDS seats across India's government and private medical colleges, this guide explains exactly what you must do, when, and what documents you need—making it essential reading before you begin the counselling process.
Follow this official step-by-step guide carefully: register with your NEET admit card details, fill and submit your application, pay the registration fee, fill and lock your college choices in order of preference, submit willingness after seat allotment, upload all required documents, and report to your allotted college or withdraw—missing any deadline or uploading wrong documents can cost you your seat.
What is NEET UG 2026 Counselling and Who Must Register
NEET UG 2026 counselling is the process by which eligible candidates are allocated seats in MBBS and BDS programmes across government and private medical colleges in India. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, conducts this counselling for all-India quota seats and coordinates with state authorities for state-specific seats.
Candidate registration is a one-time process that enables you to create your account and participate in the counselling. During registration, you must provide your NEET UG 2026 admit card details (Roll No., Application No., Name, Mother Name, Date of Birth), verify your identity, create secure login credentials, and accept all applicable declarations and consent forms. This is your gateway to the entire counselling system—without successful registration, you cannot proceed to choice filling or seat allotment.
Step 1: Candidate Registration – What You Must Do
Begin by reading all instructions, declarations, terms and conditions, fee payment details, and application procedures carefully. Then click 'New Candidate Registration' on the MCC portal. You will be asked to enter your personal details exactly as printed on your NEET UG 2026 Admit Card: NEET UG Roll Number, NEET UG Application Number, Candidate Name, Mother Name, and Date of Birth. Any mismatch will cause your registration to fail.
Next, you must create a strong password. Your password must be 8 to 13 characters long and must contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character (e.g., !@#$%^&*-). Do not share this password with anyone. After entering your password, you will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on your registered mobile number or email. Enter this OTP to verify your identity and complete registration.
Once registration is successful, you will see a consent form asking you to confirm that you have read and understood the counselling scheme, information bulletin, rules, and regulations. You must tick 'I read & confirm' for each data field (Candidate Name, Application Number, Roll Number, Mother Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Email Address) and click 'Agree'. This consent is mandatory to proceed.
- Enter personal details exactly as on your NEET admit card
- Create a password with 8–13 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, number, and special character
- Verify your mobile number and email with OTP
- Accept all declarations and consent forms before proceeding
- Save your login credentials securely
Step 2: Fill Your Application Form – Personal, Category, and Bank Details
After registration, you must fill out your Application Form. This form has several sections: Personal Details, Sub-Category Details, Other Information, and Bank Account Details. Some fields will be pre-populated from your NEET UG exam registration—verify these carefully and correct any errors.
In Personal Details, select your Gender, Nationality (Indian or NRI), and Category (General, OBC, SC, ST). If you are an Indian citizen but want to apply as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian), you must select 'Yes' for 'Do You Want to Apply for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Seat' and choose your NRI Priority. Note: Indian candidates applying as NRI must upload additional documents (passport, NRI certificate from embassy/consulate, affidavit of sponsorship, NRE bank account passbook, and relationship verification from a revenue officer). This conversion is allowed but requires strict documentation.
In Sub-Category Details, declare whether you are a Person with Disability (PWD). In Other Information, if you wish to apply for Armed Forces Medical Colleges, select 'Yes' and indicate whether your parent(s) are serving or retired from the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, or Air Force). Finally, enter your Bank Account Details (account holder name, account number, IFSC code, bank name, branch name) for any fee refund. The security deposit will be refunded to the source account if the transaction is 180 days old; otherwise, these account details will be used. Click 'Save & Next' to proceed.
- Verify and correct all pre-populated details from NEET registration
- Select your gender, nationality, and category carefully
- If applying as NRI, prepare to upload passport, NRI certificate, affidavit, and bank documents
- Declare PWD status and Armed Forces eligibility if applicable
- Enter correct bank account details for refunds
Step 3: Enter Your Qualification Details – Class 12 Marks and Institute Eligibility
You must enter your Class 12 (or equivalent) qualification details. Select your School/State, Passing Status (Passed/Appeared), Passing Year, Roll Number, School Name & Address, School Pin Code, and Class 12 Passing Score. Then enter your subject-wise marks for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, including Passing Status, Max Marks, and Obtained Marks for each.
The guide displays Institute/University Eligibility conditions that you must read carefully. For AIIMS institutes, aggregate marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination must meet NMC norms: General/EWS candidates must have passed with a minimum of 50% marks in each subject and 50% aggregate; SC/ST/OBC candidates must have 40% in each subject and 40% aggregate. For scheduled castes, tribes, and other backward classes, minimum marks are 40% instead of 50%. These eligibility rules are strict—if your marks do not meet them, you will not be eligible for certain colleges. Click 'Save & Next' after verifying your qualification details.
- Enter Class 12 details exactly as on your certificate
- Provide subject-wise marks for Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology
- Verify you meet the minimum marks eligibility for your category
- AIIMS and other institutes have different eligibility thresholds—check carefully
- Incorrect qualification details will lead to rejection during document verification
Step 4: Apply for Section (Quota) – Choose Your Counselling Quota
You must select the quota(s) for which you wish to participate. The guide lists several quotas: All India Quota (15%), Open Seat (NEET-UG/AIPMT or AIHS eligibility/BHU/JNUAMC/OREN/OJNUAMC/OREN), BSc Nursing Central Institute/Open Seat, Aligarh Muslim University internal seats quota, Deemed Universities/AIIMS/Self-Financed and NRI Seats, and Armed Forces Medical College. Your eligibility for each quota depends on your category, nationality, and other factors.
Registration and security deposit amounts vary based on your quota selection. For example, if you select All India Quota, you may pay one fee; if you select NRI seats, the fee may differ. The guide states 'Registration and Security deposit amount may vary as per selection of the Quota'—so check the fee details displayed for your chosen quota before proceeding. You can select multiple quotas if eligible. Click 'Save & Next' to confirm your quota selection and proceed to the next step.
- Understand which quotas you are eligible for (All India, State, NRI, Armed Forces, etc.)
- Note that registration fees vary by quota selection
- You may select multiple quotas if eligible
- Refer to the MCC Information Bulletin for detailed quota definitions
- Your quota choice affects which colleges and seats you can apply for
Step 5: Fill Your Contact Details – Correspondence and Permanent Address
Enter your Correspondence Address (the address where official communications will be sent) and Permanent Address. For Correspondence Address, provide Premises No./Village Name, Sub Locality/Colony/Police Station (optional), Locality/City/Town/Village/Post Office, Country (India), State, District, Pin Code, ISD Code, Alternate Contact Number, and Alternate Email ID. You can check 'Same As Correspondence Address' if your Permanent Address is identical.
Ensure all address details are accurate and complete. The counselling authority will use this address to send allotment letters, admission documents, and other official communications. Any error here may result in you missing critical deadlines or documents. Click 'Save & Next' to proceed.
- Provide complete and accurate correspondence address
- Ensure pin code and district are correct
- Provide an alternate contact number and email for backup communication
- If permanent address differs, enter it separately
- Double-check spelling and format to avoid delivery issues
Step 6: Upload Required Documents – Critical Trap: Wrong Format or Missing Documents = Rejection
All candidates must upload a clear PDF of a cancelled cheque, bank passbook, or online bank statement showing their account details. This is mandatory for verifying your bank account. The file must be in PDF format, NOT password-protected, and between 20 KB and 500 KB in size. If your file exceeds 500 KB, use a PDF compression tool to reduce it—but ensure the document remains clear and legible after compression. Unclear or illegible documents will be rejected during verification.
For Indian candidates, this is the only mandatory document at registration. However, for NRI, OCI, Foreign National, or Indian-to-NRI candidates, additional documents are required and must be uploaded now. These include: Date of Birth Certificate, 10th mark sheet and passing certificate, 12th mark sheet and passing certificate, NEET-UG Score Card issued by NTA, Valid Passport of candidate, and category-specific documents (NRI Certificate from Embassy/Indian Consulate, Affidavit of sponsorship by NRI parent with NRE bank account passbook, Relationship verification from revenue officer, OCI/PIO Card for OCI candidates, Visa/Residence Permit/Work Permit for Foreign Nationals, or Equivalence Certificates from AIU for foreign qualifications).
⚠️ CRITICAL TRAP: Documents must be uploaded in PDF format only. Password-protected PDFs will be rejected. File size must be between 20 KB and 500 KB. If a document exceeds 500 KB, compress it carefully—but if it becomes illegible, it will be rejected during verification. If any discrepancy is found by the verification officer, you will be asked to re-upload the document within a stipulated timeframe. Missing or incorrect documents can result in your application being rejected and your seat being cancelled. For NRI/OCI/Foreign National candidates, document verification by MCC is mandatory before you can access NRI seat options during choice filling. Until verification is complete, NRI seats will not be available to you.
- All candidates: upload clear PDF of cancelled cheque/bank passbook/online bank statement (20–500 KB)
- PDF must NOT be password-protected
- If file exceeds 500 KB, compress it but ensure it remains clear and legible
- NRI/OCI/Foreign National candidates: upload passport, NRI certificate, affidavit, relationship proof, and other category-specific documents
- Indian-to-NRI candidates: upload passport of candidate and legal guardian, NRI certificate, guardianship proof, and sponsorship affidavit
- Foreign Nationals: upload equivalence certificates from AIU for Class X and XII if qualifications are from outside India
- Discrepancies found during verification must be corrected by re-uploading within the given timeframe
- NRI seat options are enabled only after successful document verification by MCC
Step 7: Preview and Final Submit – Verify Everything Before Submitting
Before final submission, you will see a Preview & Final Submit page displaying all your entered details: Application Form (NEET UG Roll Number, Application Number, Candidate Name, Father Name, Mother Name, Gender, Nationality, Category, Rank, Allotment Quota eligibility status), Rank Details, Sub-Category List, Bank Details, and Upload Documents/Images. Review every field carefully. Any mistake detected at this stage can still be corrected by going back—but once you submit, changes are not allowed.
Read the Declaration carefully: 'I hereby declare that all the particulars given by me in this form are true to the best of my knowledge and belief. Any mistake / misinformation, detected at the time of admission or at any stage in future, will result in the cancellation of admission. I have read the Information Bulletin and understood all the procedures.' Tick the checkbox to confirm you have read and understood this declaration, then click 'Save & Final Submit'.
A confirmation dialog will appear asking 'Do you wish to final submit?' Click 'Yes' to complete the submission. Once submitted, your application details are locked and cannot be changed. For Indian candidates who uploaded only a cancelled cheque, your application will be submitted immediately and you will be eligible for choice filling and choice locking. For NRI/OCI/Foreign National/Indian-to-NRI candidates, your documents will be sent for verification by MCC. You will see a notification on your home page indicating that 'document verification by MCC is pending.' Until verification is complete, NRI seat options will not be available during choice filling. Once MCC verifies all documents successfully, NRI seats will be automatically enabled.
- Review all application details on the preview page
- Verify rank, category, quota, and bank account details
- Check that all uploaded documents are listed
- Read and tick the declaration checkbox
- Click 'Save & Final Submit' only when you are certain all details are correct
- Once submitted, application details cannot be changed
- Indian candidates: eligible for choice filling immediately after submission
- NRI/OCI/Foreign National candidates: must wait for MCC document verification before accessing NRI seats
Step 8: Pay Your Registration Fee – Mandatory Before Choice Filling
After successful application submission, you must pay the registration fee. The fee amount depends on the quota(s) you selected. The guide states 'You are required to pay an amount of Rs. [amount]'—the exact fee will be displayed on your Fee Payment page based on your quota selection. Without payment, you cannot proceed to choice filling.
Click 'Pay Registration Fee' on your dashboard. Review the fee details, select your mode of payment (Online Payment is the default option), read the Candidate Consent carefully, and tick 'I Agree'. Then click 'Proceed'. You will be directed to a payment gateway where you can complete the transaction using your preferred payment method (credit card, debit card, net banking, UPI, etc.). After successful payment, you will receive a payment confirmation. Your dashboard will update to show that the fee has been paid, and you will now be eligible to proceed with choice filling.
- Fee amount varies by quota selection—check your dashboard for the exact amount
- Payment is mandatory before choice filling can begin
- Select your preferred payment method (online payment, card, net banking, UPI)
- Keep your payment receipt for records
- After payment, your dashboard will show 'Fee Paid' status
- If payment fails, retry or contact the MCC helpdesk
Step 9: View Available Choices – Filter and Download the List of Colleges You Can Apply For
Before filling your choices, you must view the list of available choices (colleges and programmes) for which you are eligible. Click 'Available Choices' on your dashboard. You will see a list of all colleges, programmes, and quotas available to you based on your NEET rank, category, and quota selection.
Use the filters to narrow down your search: filter by Institute Type (Government, Private, Deemed, AIIMS, etc.), Institute Name, and Program (MBBS, BDS). You can also view the list by Institute Address and Institute Type. Once you have filtered the choices, click 'Print List of Available Choices' to download and save a PDF of all available options. This list is crucial—it shows you exactly which colleges and programmes you can apply for. Study this list carefully and decide your order of preference before proceeding to choice filling.
- View all colleges and programmes available to you based on your rank and category
- Filter by institute type, name, and programme to narrow your search
- Download and print the list of available choices for reference
- Study the list carefully to decide your preference order
- Note the college names, programme names, and quota types
Step 10: Fill Your Choices – Select Colleges in Order of Preference (Most Important Step)
This is the most critical step. Click 'Choice Filling' on your dashboard. You will be asked to enter your password for security. After password verification, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email. Select the option to receive OTP on your mobile or email, and click 'Send OTP'. Enter the OTP you receive and click 'Validate OTP' to proceed.
You will now see the Choice Filling interface. On the left side, you will see 'Available Choices' (all colleges and programmes you are eligible for). On the right side, you will see 'Filled Choice(s)' (your selected preferences in order). To fill your choices, browse the available choices list, select a college and programme, and click 'Add' to move it to your Filled Choices list. You can add up to the maximum number of choices allowed (typically 100 or more). Arrange your choices in order of preference: your first choice should be the college/programme you most want to join, your second choice the next most preferred, and so on. The seat allotment algorithm will try to match you to your highest-ranked available choice.
⚠️ CRITICAL: The order of your choices matters enormously. Seat allotment is based on your rank and your locked choice order. If you rank a college first and get a seat there, you will be allotted that seat even if you could have gotten a better college if you had ranked it first. Think carefully about your preferences. You can use the 'Up', 'Down', and 'Remove' buttons to reorder or delete choices. Once you are satisfied with your choices, click 'Save and Continue' to save without submitting, or 'Save and Go to Home' to save and return to the dashboard. Your choices are now saved but not yet locked—you can still edit them until you lock them.
- Enter your password and verify with OTP before accessing choice filling
- Browse available choices and add colleges/programmes to your preference list
- Arrange choices in strict order of preference (1st choice = most preferred)
- You can add up to 100+ choices if desired
- Use Up/Down buttons to reorder choices
- Use Remove button to delete unwanted choices
- Save your choices before locking—you can still edit until locked
- Remember: seat allotment follows your locked choice order, so rank carefully
Step 11: View and Verify Your Filled Choices Before Locking
After filling your choices, click 'View Filled Choice(s)' to review your complete preference list. You will see a table showing your filled choices in order: Choice No., Institute Name, Programme Name, and Quota. Verify that your choices are in the correct order and that you have not made any mistakes. If you need to make changes, go back to 'Choice Filling' and edit your list.
You can also click 'Print List of Unlocked Filled Choices' to download and print your preference list for your records. This is a good practice—keep a copy of your locked choices for reference during the admission process.
- Review your filled choices in the order you ranked them
- Verify college names, programme names, and quotas are correct
- Print your unlocked choices list for your records
- If you find errors, go back to choice filling and edit
- Do not proceed to locking until you are 100% satisfied with your order
Step 12: Lock Your Choices – Final and Irreversible Decision
Once you are satisfied with your choice order, you must lock your choices. Click 'Choice Locking' on your dashboard. Read the Locking Agreement carefully: 'After locking, Candidate is not allowed to make any modifications in Filled Choice(s). Please check all the Filled Choice(s) carefully before locking.' This is your final warning—once locked, you cannot change your choices.
You will see a summary of your choices by Institute Type (e.g., 'Deemed Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research', 'BSc Nursing NEET UG', 'Central University', etc.) and your Total Filled Choices. Review this summary one last time. Then select the radio button 'I agree to lock my choice(s)' and click 'Proceed'. Enter your password when prompted and click 'Yes Lock'. You will receive an OTP on your mobile or email—select the option, click 'Send OTP', enter the OTP, and click 'Lock Choices' to confirm.
⚠️ CRITICAL TRAP: Once your choices are locked, NO FURTHER CHANGES ARE ALLOWED. Your locked choices are final and will be used for seat allotment. If you realize after locking that you made a mistake in your preference order, you cannot undo it. The seat allotment algorithm will process your locked choices in the order you submitted them. Therefore, lock your choices only when you are absolutely certain of your preference order. After locking, your dashboard will show 'Choice Locking Status: Locked' in green.
- Review your choice order one final time before locking
- Understand that locking is irreversible—no changes allowed after locking
- Enter your password and verify with OTP to lock
- Confirm the locking by clicking 'Lock Choices'
- After locking, your dashboard will show 'Locked' status
- Keep a record of your locked choices for reference
Step 13: Download Your Locked Choices Letter – Proof of Your Preferences
After successfully locking your choices, click 'Print Locked Choice(s)' to view and download your Locked Choices Letter. This letter shows your complete preference list, locking status, IP address, date and time of locking, and a unique code. Download and save this letter—it is your proof that you have locked your choices and can be used for reference or dispute resolution if needed.
The guide advises: 'Candidate can also click on Download Locked Choices Letter to download the locked Choices Letter.' Keep this letter safe throughout the counselling process.
- Download your Locked Choices Letter immediately after locking
- Save the letter as proof of your preference submission
- The letter shows your locking date, time, IP address, and unique code
- Keep this letter for reference during seat allotment and admission
Step 14: Seat Allotment Result – Check Your Allotment Status
After the choice filling and locking deadline, the MCC will process all locked choices and publish the Seat Allotment Result according to the notified schedule. The guide advises: 'Candidates are advised to regularly monitor the counselling portal for updates and announcements. Once the Seat Allotment Result is declared, candidates may log in to the portal to view their allotment status and proceed with the subsequent admission formalities, if applicable.'
Click 'Seat Allotment Result' on your dashboard to view your allotment. You will see your Seat Allocation Activity Status for the round. Inside the Activity List tab, click 'Seat Allotment Result' to view your allotment details. The Seat Allotment Details section will show: Roll Number, Option (your choice rank), Institute Name, Programme Name, Rank, Allotment Category, Seat Gender, Stream, Allotment Quota, Allotment Date, Nodal Officer Mobile, and Nodal Officer Name. Note down the Nodal Officer's contact details—you will need to contact them for joining and admission procedures.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you are allotted a seat, you must now submit your willingness for upgradation (Freeze or Float) and upload all required documents. If you are not allotted a seat in this round, you may be eligible for the next round if you selected Float willingness in a previous round, or you may need to withdraw from counselling.
- Monitor the MCC portal regularly for the seat allotment result announcement
- Log in to view your allotment status after the result is published
- Note your allotted college, programme, rank, and quota
- Save the Nodal Officer's contact details for joining procedures
- If allotted, proceed immediately to willingness submission
- If not allotted, check if you are eligible for the next round
Step 15: Submit Willingness for Upgradation – Freeze or Float (One-Time, Cannot Be Changed)
After viewing your seat allotment, you must submit your willingness for upgradation. This is a one-time decision that cannot be modified after submission. Click 'Submit Willingness' in the Activity List. You will see two options:
**Option A: Freeze – I DO NOT want to participate in next round of counselling.** If you select Freeze, you are accepting your current allotted seat and do not wish to participate in any further counselling rounds. You must contact the Nodal Officer and visit the allotted college physically for offline document verification. The college will verify your documents on-site. If you fail to report to the college within the stipulated timeframe, your seat will be cancelled and you will lose your admission.
**Option B: Float – I want to participate in next round of counselling.** If you select Float, you are keeping your current seat but also participating in the next round of counselling for a possible upgrade to a better college. You must contact the Nodal Officer and get your documents verified online (you do not need to visit the college). If you are allotted a better seat in the next round, your current seat will be cancelled and you will be allotted the new seat. If you are not allotted a better seat, you retain your current seat.
⚠️ CRITICAL TRAP: This decision is final and cannot be changed after submission. If you select Freeze and later change your mind, you cannot participate in the next round. If you select Float and do not get a better seat, you must join your current allotted college. Think carefully before submitting. The guide emphasizes: 'Submit your willingness carefully. It can be submitted only once and cannot be modified after submission.'
- Freeze: Accept current seat, no further rounds, must report physically to college
- Float: Keep current seat, participate in next round for possible upgrade, online document verification
- This decision is final and cannot be changed after submission
- If Freeze: contact Nodal Officer and visit college for offline document verification within stipulated time
- If Float: contact Nodal Officer for online document verification, no need to visit college
- Failure to report (Freeze) or verify documents (Float) within deadline will result in seat cancellation
- Think carefully before submitting—this is a one-time decision
Step 16: Upload Required Documents for Reporting – Mandatory for Seat Confirmation
After submitting your willingness, you must upload all required documents for reporting. Click 'Upload Documents' in the Activity List. You will see a list of mandatory documents that must be uploaded in PDF format (20–500 KB, not password-protected). The list typically includes: NEET UG 2026 Admit Card, NEET UG 2026 Score Card, Date of Birth Certificate, 10th mark sheet and passing certificate, 12th mark sheet and passing certificate, and Permanent/Provisional Registration Certificate issued by MCI/NMC or DCI/State Medical Council of India.
For each document, click 'Choose File', select the PDF from your computer, and click 'Preview & Upload'. The system will display the file size and format. If the file exceeds 500 KB, compress it using a PDF compression tool, but ensure it remains clear and legible. After uploading all documents, click 'Upload Finally & Next' to submit. Your documents will be verified by the college or MCC. If any discrepancy is found, you will be notified and asked to re-upload the corrected document within a stipulated timeframe.
⚠️ CRITICAL: Uploading clear, correct documents is essential. Unclear, illegible, or incorrect documents will be rejected, and your seat may be cancelled if you do not re-upload within the deadline. Ensure all documents are scanned clearly, in PDF format, and between 20–500 KB.
- Upload all mandatory documents in PDF format (20–500 KB, not password-protected)
- Documents must be clear and legible—compress if needed but maintain clarity
- Required documents: Admit Card, Score Card, DOB Certificate, 10th/12th mark sheets, Registration Certificate
- If discrepancy found, re-upload corrected document within stipulated timeframe
- Failure to upload or correct documents within deadline will result in seat cancellation
Step 17: Download Your Provisional Allotment Letter – Your Seat Confirmation
After uploading all required documents, click 'Download Provisional Allotment Letter' to view and download your official allotment letter. This letter contains your Seat Allotment Details: Roll Number, Option (choice rank), Institute Name, Programme Name, Rank, Allotment Category, Seat Gender, Stream, Allotment Quota, Allotment Date, Nodal Officer Mobile, and Nodal Officer Name. This is your official proof of seat allotment.
Review the allotment details carefully. If you selected Freeze, you must contact the Nodal Officer and visit the college physically for offline document verification within the stipulated timeframe. If you selected Float, you must contact the Nodal Officer for online document verification. The Nodal Officer's contact details are provided in the letter. Keep this letter safe—you will need it for admission formalities at the college.
- Download your Provisional Allotment Letter immediately
- Verify all allotment details: college name, programme, rank, quota
- Note the Nodal Officer's contact details
- If Freeze: contact Nodal Officer and visit college for offline verification within deadline
- If Float: contact Nodal Officer for online verification
- Keep the letter for admission formalities at the college
Step 18: Discrepancy Removal – If Documents Are Flagged During Verification
If the verification officer finds any discrepancy in your uploaded documents, you will receive a notification: 'During document verification, discrepancies were found in your recently uploaded documents. Please review and resolve/closed the discrepancies to continue the verification process.' Click 'View and Remove Discrepancy' to see the details of the discrepancy.
The system will display a list of your uploaded documents and the discrepancies found (e.g., 'Document is not clear', 'Name mismatch', 'Date mismatch', etc.). For each flagged document, click 'Remove Discrepancy', select the corrected document from your computer, click 'Submit and Preview', verify the document is now clear and correct, tick 'Self Verified', and click 'Save Finally & Next'. The verification officer will then re-verify the corrected document. Once all discrepancies are resolved and all documents are verified successfully, the verification process is complete and you can proceed with admission formalities.
⚠️ CRITICAL: You must resolve all discrepancies within the stipulated timeframe. If you do not re-upload corrected documents within the deadline, your seat will be cancelled. The guide states: 'In case of discrepancy found in the uploaded document by the verification officer, these documents are required to be re-uploaded again in the stipulated timeframe.'
- If discrepancy notification received, click 'View and Remove Discrepancy' immediately
- Identify the flagged documents and the specific discrepancies
- Re-upload corrected documents in PDF format (20–500 KB, clear and legible)
- Tick 'Self Verified' and submit for re-verification
- Resolve all discrepancies within the stipulated timeframe
- Failure to resolve discrepancies within deadline will result in seat cancellation
Step 19: Withdrawal from Counselling – If You Want to Surrender Your Seat
If you wish to withdraw from counselling and surrender your allotted seat, click 'Withdrawal from Counselling' on your dashboard. Read the declaration carefully: 'I hereby declare that I am surrendering my seat on my own will. I understand that I will have no claim on this seat in the future. I have read the information bulletin and understood all the procedures.' Tick the checkbox to confirm, upload a signed undertaking (a PDF document stating that you voluntarily withdraw from counselling), enter your password, and click 'Submit'.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) If you selected Freeze willingness, you must visit the college physically to withdraw in offline mode—online withdrawal is not available for Freeze candidates. (2) If you selected Float willingness, you can withdraw online in Round 1 and Round 2, but NOT in Round 3. (3) Once you withdraw, you have no claim on your seat in the future. You cannot rejoin the same counselling round or claim the same seat later. Withdrawal is final.
After successful withdrawal, you will see the message 'Your Allotted seat has been withdrawn successfully.' Click 'Download Letter' to download your Withdrawal Letter as proof. Your seat will now be available for other candidates.
- Withdrawal is final—you will have no claim on the seat in future
- Freeze candidates: must withdraw offline at the college
- Float candidates: can withdraw online in Round 1 and 2 only (not Round 3)
- Upload signed undertaking confirming voluntary withdrawal
- Download withdrawal letter as proof
- After withdrawal, your seat becomes available for other candidates
Step 20: System Generated Letters – Download Your Official Counselling Documents
Throughout the counselling process, the system generates several official letters that you can download and print. Click 'System Generated Letters' on your dashboard. Select the letter type you need: Generated Lock Choice Letter (proof of your locked choices), Generated Allotment Letter (your seat allotment confirmation), or Generated Candidate Profile Letter (your registration and application details). Click 'Submit' to view and download the letter. These letters are official documents issued by MCC and can be used for reference, dispute resolution, or admission formalities.
- Download Generated Lock Choice Letter to prove your choice preferences
- Download Generated Allotment Letter as proof of seat allotment
- Download Generated Candidate Profile Letter for your registration details
- Keep all letters for reference and admission formalities
- These are official MCC documents
Important Dates and Deadlines – Do Not Miss These
The guide does not specify exact dates for registration, choice filling, choice locking, seat allotment, willingness submission, document upload, or reporting. However, it emphasizes: 'Candidates are advised to follow the instructions carefully and complete each activity within the timelines notified by the Counselling Authority.' The MCC will publish a detailed schedule on the official counselling portal (mcc.nic.in) specifying all deadlines. You must monitor the portal regularly and note all important dates.
Typical counselling timeline (subject to official notification): Registration opens → Application form filling → Fee payment → Choice filling window opens → Choice locking deadline → Seat allotment result published → Willingness submission deadline → Document upload deadline → Reporting deadline (Freeze) or online verification deadline (Float) → Next round (if Float selected). Missing any deadline can result in your application being rejected or your seat being cancelled.
- Check the MCC portal (mcc.nic.in) for official dates and deadlines
- Register before the registration deadline
- Pay fee before the fee payment deadline
- Fill and lock choices before the choice locking deadline
- Submit willingness before the deadline
- Upload documents before the upload deadline
- Report to college (Freeze) or verify documents online (Float) before the reporting deadline
- Missing any deadline can result in rejection or seat cancellation
Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected – Avoid These Traps
**Mistake 1: Entering personal details incorrectly.** Your NEET UG Roll Number, Application Number, Name, Mother Name, and Date of Birth must match exactly with your NEET admit card. Even a small spelling error or date mismatch will cause registration to fail. Verify these details multiple times before submitting.
**Mistake 2: Uploading documents in wrong format or size.** Documents must be in PDF format, NOT password-protected, and between 20–500 KB. If you upload a Word document, image file, or password-protected PDF, it will be rejected. If your file exceeds 500 KB, compress it carefully—but if it becomes illegible, it will be rejected during verification.
**Mistake 3: Uploading unclear or illegible documents.** If your scanned document is blurry, faded, or hard to read, it will be rejected. Ensure all documents are scanned at high resolution (at least 300 DPI) and are clear and legible.
**Mistake 4: Missing mandatory documents.** All candidates must upload a cancelled cheque/bank passbook/online bank statement. NRI/OCI/Foreign National candidates must upload passport, NRI certificate, affidavit, and other category-specific documents. Missing any mandatory document will result in rejection.
**Mistake 5: Locking choices without careful thought.** Once you lock your choices, you cannot change them. If you lock your choices in the wrong order and realize your mistake after locking, you cannot undo it. Your seat allotment will follow your locked order. Think carefully before locking.
**Mistake 6: Not submitting willingness on time.** After seat allotment, you must submit your willingness (Freeze or Float) within the deadline. If you do not submit willingness, your seat may be cancelled.
**Mistake 7: Not uploading documents for reporting on time.** After submitting willingness, you must upload all required documents within the deadline. If you do not upload documents, your seat will be cancelled.
**Mistake 8: Not reporting to college (Freeze) or verifying documents (Float) within deadline.** If you selected Freeze, you must visit the college physically for offline document verification within the stipulated timeframe. If you selected Float, you must get your documents verified online. Failure to do so will result in seat cancellation.
**Mistake 9: Applying as NRI without proper documentation.** If you are an Indian citizen applying as NRI, you must upload passport, NRI certificate from embassy/consulate, affidavit of sponsorship by NRI parent with NRE bank account passbook, and relationship verification from a revenue officer. Missing any of these documents will result in rejection.
**Mistake 10: Not monitoring the portal for updates.** The MCC publishes important announcements, discrepancy notifications, and result updates on the portal. If you do not check the portal regularly, you may miss critical deadlines or notifications about discrepancies in your documents.

What is the first step I must take to participate in NEET UG 2026 counselling?
The first step is Candidate Registration. You must log in to the MCC counselling portal using your NEET UG 2026 Admit Card details (Roll No., Application No., Name, Mother Name, Date of Birth), create a secure password (8–13 characters with uppercase, lowercase, number, and special character), verify your mobile number and email with OTP, and accept all declarations and consent forms. Registration is a one-time process and is mandatory to participate in counselling.
What documents must I upload during registration?
All candidates must upload a clear PDF of a cancelled cheque, bank passbook, or online bank statement showing their account details (20–500 KB, not password-protected). For Indian candidates, this is the only mandatory document at registration. For NRI, OCI, Foreign National, or Indian-to-NRI candidates, additional documents are required: passport, NRI certificate from embassy/consulate, affidavit of sponsorship, NRE bank account passbook, relationship verification from revenue officer, and other category-specific documents. All documents must be in PDF format, clear and legible, and between 20–500 KB.
Can I change my choices after locking them?
No. Once you lock your choices, they are final and cannot be changed. The guide explicitly states: 'Once the choice(s) are locked, no further changes can be made to the selected choice(s).' Therefore, you must review your choice order very carefully before locking. Lock your choices only when you are 100% certain of your preference order.
What is the difference between Freeze and Float willingness?
Freeze means you accept your current allotted seat and do NOT want to participate in the next round of counselling. You must visit the college physically for offline document verification. If you fail to report within the stipulated timeframe, your seat will be cancelled. Float means you keep your current seat but also participate in the next round for a possible upgrade. You must get your documents verified online (no need to visit the college). If you get a better seat in the next round, your current seat will be cancelled and you will be allotted the new seat. This decision is final and cannot be changed after submission.
What happens if I do not upload documents within the deadline?
If you do not upload all required documents within the stipulated deadline, your seat will be cancelled. The guide states: 'In case of discrepancy found in the uploaded document by the verification officer, these documents are required to be re-uploaded again in the stipulated timeframe.' Missing the deadline for document upload or discrepancy resolution will result in loss of your seat.
Can I withdraw from counselling after getting a seat?
Yes, you can withdraw from counselling by clicking 'Withdrawal from Counselling' on your dashboard. However, there are restrictions: (1) If you selected Freeze willingness, you must withdraw offline at the college—online withdrawal is not available. (2) If you selected Float willingness, you can withdraw online in Round 1 and Round 2, but NOT in Round 3. (3) Once you withdraw, you have no claim on your seat in the future. Withdrawal is final and irreversible.
What if I find a discrepancy in my uploaded documents?
If the verification officer finds a discrepancy in your documents, you will receive a notification: 'During document verification, discrepancies were found in your recently uploaded documents.' Click 'View and Remove Discrepancy', identify the flagged documents, re-upload corrected documents in PDF format (20–500 KB, clear and legible), tick 'Self Verified', and submit for re-verification. You must resolve all discrepancies within the stipulated timeframe. Failure to do so will result in seat cancellation.
How do I know if I am eligible for NRI seats?
If you are an Indian citizen but want to apply as NRI, you must select 'Yes' for 'Do You Want to Apply for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Seat' in your Application Form and choose your NRI Priority. You must then upload additional documents: valid passport, NRI certificate from embassy/Indian consulate, affidavit of sponsorship by NRI parent with NRE bank account passbook, and relationship verification from a revenue officer. Your documents will be verified by MCC. Until verification is complete, NRI seat options will not be available during choice filling. Once verified, NRI seats will be automatically enabled.
What is the registration fee and when must I pay it?
The registration fee amount depends on the quota(s) you selected during application. The exact fee will be displayed on your Fee Payment page. You must pay the fee before you can proceed to choice filling. Without payment, choice filling is not allowed. You can pay online using credit card, debit card, net banking, UPI, or other payment methods. After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation and your dashboard will show 'Fee Paid' status.
What should I do if I do not get a seat in the first round?
If you are not allotted a seat in the first round, you may be eligible for the next round if you selected Float willingness in a previous round. If you selected Freeze willingness or did not participate in a previous round, you will not be eligible for the next round. You can check the MCC portal for announcements about subsequent rounds and participate if eligible. If you do not get a seat in any round, you can withdraw from counselling or wait for the final round.
Can I apply for both MBBS and BDS seats in the same counselling?
The guide covers NEET UG counselling for MBBS and BDS programmes. During choice filling, you can select both MBBS and BDS colleges and programmes in your preference list. Your choices will be processed based on your rank and locked preference order. You will be allotted a seat in either MBBS or BDS based on your rank and the availability of seats in your chosen colleges.
What is the Nodal Officer and why is their contact important?
The Nodal Officer is the designated official at your allotted college responsible for admission formalities, document verification, and joining procedures. Their contact details (mobile number and email) are provided in your Seat Allotment Details and Provisional Allotment Letter. You must contact the Nodal Officer to confirm your admission, arrange document verification (offline for Freeze, online for Float), and complete joining formalities. Do not ignore the Nodal Officer's contact—timely communication is essential to secure your seat.
