Who this counselling is for and what it covers

This counselling is for candidates who have qualified NEET-UG 2026 (conducted by NTA) and want to join MBBS or BDS courses in West Bengal. WBMCC conducts online counselling for 85% of State Quota seats in government medical and dental colleges, plus State Quota and Management Quota seats in private medical and dental colleges, and NRI Quota (medical only) seats in private colleges. Step-by-step: how registration works

The registration process runs through several linked screens. Candidates should complete each one carefully because most fields cannot be changed after the final submission.

• Click 'New Candidate Registration' on the login page (one-time only).
• Read and accept the Declaration & Terms and Conditions ('I Agree'), including the password policy (8–13 characters, at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character).
• Review and confirm the 'Consent Form for Counselling Purpose', which explains why each piece of personal data (name, roll number, DOB, mobile, email, etc.) is being collected.
• Enter Roll Number, Application Number, Candidate Name, Mother's Name and Date of Birth exactly as printed on the NEET-UG 2026 admit card, along with the security pin shown on screen. ⚠️ Any mismatch with NEET-UG data will not allow registration.
• Set a password, then verify your mobile number and/or email ID using an OTP. Verifying at least one is mandatory to complete registration.
• Once validated, click 'Application Form' to fill in remaining details: father's name, religion, category, bank account details (for any fee refund), 'Candidate Other Information Details' (domicile, NRI status, reporting centre preference), 10+2 qualification details, quota selection ('Apply for Section'), and contact details.

Category selection: what you can and cannot change

A common source of confusion is whether a candidate can pick a different caste category during WBMCC counselling registration than what was declared in the NEET-UG application. The manual sets out three specific scenarios — read the one that applies to you carefully, because getting this wrong can affect which seats you are eligible for.

• Type I — Declared 'General' in NEET-UG: you may keep 'General', OR select 'Other Backward Class (OBC)' — but only if you hold a valid OBC certificate issued by a West Bengal state authority.
• Type II — Declared 'EWS' in NEET-UG: you may select 'General-EWS' or 'Other Backward Class (OBC)', as per the policy set out in the WBMCC counselling notice cum Information Bulletin.
• Type III — Declared OBC, SC or ST in NEET-UG: the category you declared during the NEET-UG application remains the same during WBMCC registration. You cannot switch out of it.

Which quota can you actually apply for?

The manual shows several combinations of domicile, category and NRI status, and each one unlocks a different set of quotas. Fees: how much you pay depends on the quotas you tick

In the 'Apply for Section' step, candidates tick which quota(s) they want to compete for. WB-domicile candidates are, by default, eligible to fill choices for Government College State Quota seats and only need to pay the counselling registration fee for that. Applying additionally for State Quota or Management Quota seats in private colleges requires an extra security deposit on top of the registration fee. NRI Quota registration requires only the registration fee, with no security deposit.

Documents to upload and what happens after you register

During registration, candidates must upload a clear image of a cancelled cheque, bank passbook, or online bank statement showing account details — this is used for any fee refund. The file must be in JPG format and between 20 KB and 100 KB in size.

Candidates must also fill in Class 12 (or equivalent) qualification details — passing status, passing year, roll number, the state/district and board where the exam was passed, and subject-wise marks for the qualifying subjects.

After final submission and fee payment, the system generates a Candidate Profile Letter showing your reporting centre, and the reporting date and time for physical document verification.
