Tamil Nadu's Selection Committee, under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME), has announced a tentative counselling schedule for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the state's government medical and dental colleges for the 2026-27 session. This particular round is for three special categories only: Eminent Sportsperson, Children of Ex-Servicemen, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). The counselling will take place on 13 August 2026 at a fixed venue in Chennai, and candidates are called in serial-number batches based on eligible lists published on the official website. This is a schedule announcement, not a results announcement — no individual call letters will be sent, so candidates must check the eligible list and their serial number themselves.

If you are on the eligible list for Eminent Sportsperson (Sl.No. 1-25), Children of Ex-Servicemen (Sl.No. 1-30), or Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, you must report to Lecture Hall-II, TN Govt. Multi-Super Speciality Hospital, Omandurar, Chennai, on 13-08-2026 with your parent, a Rs.500 demand draft, and all nine listed original documents — missing even one document can get you barred from counselling.

Who is being called, and when

The counselling on 13 August 2026 (Thursday) is organised in three back-to-back slots, one for each special category. Candidates must check the official website for the eligible list relevant to their category and find their own serial number — no separate call letter or SMS will be sent.

The eligible list for the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category will itself be published on the official website only on 12-08-2026, one day before counselling — so candidates in that category should check the website that day, not earlier.

  • 8:00 AM — Eminent Sports Person: Serial numbers 1 to 25 from the eligible list on the official website
  • 8:30 AM — Children of Ex-Servicemen: Serial numbers 1 to 30 from the eligible list on the official website

Fees to bring — processing fee and tuition demand draft

Every candidate must produce a demand draft (DD) of Rs.500 payable at Chennai, drawn in favour of 'The Secretary, Selection Committee, Chennai – 10', as the processing fee at the time of counselling.

In addition, if you receive a provisional allotment, you must produce a separate DD for the tuition fee amount that applies to your course and community category, as shown below. If you don't bring this DD in advance, the notice says a facility to prepare one is arranged at the counselling venue itself — but it is safer to arrive with it ready.

Important rules and traps to avoid

Read these carefully — they can cost you a seat or a smooth counselling experience even if you qualify on merit.

  • ⚠️ No individual call letters are sent — you alone are responsible for checking your serial number on the eligible list on the official website.
  • ⚠️ Being called for counselling does NOT guarantee a seat allotment — the notice states that more candidates are called than there are seats, so allotment depends on your rank/turn and seat availability at that time.
  • ⚠️ You must bring one parent along at your own cost — arrangements or travel costs are not provided by the Selection Committee.
  • ⚠️ The Community Certificate must be produced both for the candidate AND for one parent (father or mother) — missing either can block participation.
  • ⚠️ The proof-of-study certificate (6th to 12th Std) is required only if you studied entirely within Tamil Nadu — check whether this applies to you.
  • ⚠️ Mobile phones and other communication devices are not allowed inside the counselling hall during your turn.
  • ✅ Arrive at the venue at least one hour before your category's start time.
  • ✅ Carry the Rs.500 processing fee DD in the correct name and payable location, plus the tuition fee DD if you can arrange it beforehand.
  • ✅ You can only opt for vacancies that are actually available at the moment your turn comes — plan your choices accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get a call letter for this counselling?

No. The notice clearly states no individual call letters will be sent. You must check the eligible list for your category on the official website and note your serial number and reporting time yourself.

I am on the Eminent Sportsperson list at serial number 20. Am I guaranteed a seat?

No. The notice specifically warns that more candidates are called for counselling than there are seats, so allotment is not guaranteed to everyone even if you are on the list.

When will the PwBD eligible list be published?

The eligible list for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will be published on the official website on 12-08-2026 — just one day before the counselling on 13-08-2026.

Do I need the 6th to 12th Std study certificate if I studied outside Tamil Nadu?

No. This certificate is required only for candidates who have studied completely within Tamil Nadu from 6th Std to 12th Std.

Can I submit a photocopy of my Community Certificate?

The notice requires original certificates/documents for participation. You should carry the original Community Certificate along with a copy for submission.

What if I don't have a ready-made demand draft for the tuition fee at the venue?

The notice says a facility to prepare the demand draft is arranged at the counselling venue if you don't bring it, but it is safer to arrange it in advance to avoid delays.

Can I bring more than one parent or a friend to the venue?

The notice specifies candidates should be present with one parent, at their own cost. It does not mention allowances for additional attendees.

Whose community certificate is required besides mine?

You must also bring the Community Certificate of either your father or your mother — any one parent's certificate is acceptable.

If you fall under the Eminent Sportsperson, Children of Ex-Servicemen, or Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category, check the official Tamil Nadu Selection Committee website now for the eligible list and your serial number, and start gathering every one of the nine required original documents well before 13 August 2026. Reach the Omandurar venue at least an hour early with your parent, the Rs.500 processing fee DD, and be ready with the tuition fee DD for your course and category in case you get an allotment.
