NEET UG 2026 qualifying cut-off — percentile and marks

To be eligible for MBBS/BDS counselling you must clear the NEET 2026 qualifying cut-off, which NTA fixes as a PERCENTILE, not a fixed mark: 50th percentile for General/Unreserved, 40th percentile for OBC-NCL, SC and ST, and 45th percentile for General-PwD candidates. NTA converts these percentiles into the actual qualifying marks and prints your qualifying status on your scorecard. The exact category-wise NEET UG 2026 qualifying marks are released together with the result — in recent years the General-category qualifying score has generally fallen in roughly the 115–165 marks band, but the official 2026 figure is what counts, so always go by your own scorecard.

CategoryQualifying percentile
General / Unreserved (UR)50th percentile
OBC-NCL / SC / ST40th percentile
General-PwD45th percentile
OBC / SC / ST with PwD40th percentile
Qualifying is percentile-based; NTA publishes the equivalent marks with the result.

Clearing the qualifying cut-off makes you ELIGIBLE to take part in counselling — it does not guarantee a seat. The score needed for an actual MBBS seat (especially in government colleges) is far higher and depends on your category, state and the college. Use the tools here to see where you realistically stand.

Qualified? What happens next — NEET counselling 2026

MBBS, BDS and other NEET-based admissions happen through COUNSELLING, not directly from the result. Seats are split into two streams. The 15% All India Quota (AIQ) — plus AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, and all central and deemed universities — is counselled online by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in. The 85% state quota is counselled by each state’s own authority for its domicile candidates. In both, you register, fill and lock your college/course choices, and seats are allotted rank-wise over several rounds.

  • 15% All India Quota + deemed/central universities (AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, AFMC, etc.) → register with MCC at mcc.nic.in
  • 85% state quota (government + private colleges in your state) → register with your state counselling authority
  • Each round: register → pay the fee → fill and lock choices → seat allotment → report/join, or move to the next round
  • Keep documents ready: NEET scorecard and admit card, Class 10 & 12 marksheets, photo ID, category/EWS and PwD certificates, domicile (for state quota) and passport photos

Didn’t qualify, or scored low? Your options

  • Recheck your category — the OBC/SC/ST/PwD cut-off is lower than the General cut-off, so you may still qualify under your category
  • Consider BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, BUMS (AYUSH), B.V.Sc (veterinary), B.Sc Nursing and other allied-health courses that also admit through NEET
  • Explore private and deemed colleges, where closing ranks are more relaxed (including management/NRI quota)

Frequently asked questions — NEET UG 2026 result

Who is the NEET UG 2026 topper?

All India Rank 1 is shared by two candidates — Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana — both scoring 715 out of 720, the highest this year. Only 19 candidates crossed 700 marks.

How many candidates qualified NEET UG 2026?

About 11.21 lakh candidates qualified for medical admission, and over 58% of them are women. The result was declared on 16 July 2026 at neet.nta.nic.in.

Is the NEET UG 2026 result out?

Yes. NTA has declared the NEET UG 2026 result and scorecards are available now at the official website neet.nta.nic.in. Log in with your application number and date of birth to download yours.

How do I check my NEET 2026 result?

Go to neet.nta.nic.in, click the NEET (UG) 2026 result/scorecard link, enter your application number and date of birth with the CAPTCHA, and submit. Your scorecard — with marks, percentile, All India Rank and qualifying status — opens on screen; download and save it as a PDF.

What is the NEET 2026 qualifying percentile?

50th percentile for General/Unreserved, 40th percentile for OBC-NCL, SC and ST, and 45th percentile for General-PwD candidates. NTA converts these into the actual qualifying marks and shows your qualifying status on your scorecard.

What are the NEET 2026 qualifying cut-off marks?

The exact category-wise qualifying marks are released by NTA with the result, derived from the percentile criteria. In recent years the General cut-off has fallen roughly in the 115–165 marks band, but your scorecard shows your own official qualifying status — always go by that.

What are NEET total marks?

NEET is out of 720 — 180 questions of 4 marks each, with 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer and no penalty for unattempted questions.

What is a good NEET 2026 score for a government MBBS seat?

Qualifying the cut-off only makes you eligible for counselling. A government MBBS seat usually needs a much higher score — often 600+ for General category in many states — but the exact requirement depends on your category, state and the college. A college predictor gives you a realistic picture.

When will NEET UG 2026 counselling start?

Counselling begins after the result. The 15% All India Quota and deemed/central universities are counselled by MCC at mcc.nic.in, and the 85% state quota by each state’s authority. Registration dates are announced separately — we’ll publish them here as soon as they are out.

What is the difference between All India Quota and state quota?

The 15% All India Quota (plus AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, deemed and central universities) is counselled centrally by MCC and is open to candidates from any state. The 85% state quota is counselled by each state for its own domicile candidates and usually has lower closing ranks for locals.

Can I challenge my NEET 2026 result or marks?

The answer-key and OMR response-sheet challenge windows are held before the result and are now closed. The declared result and All India Rank are final; there is no separate challenge against the scorecard.

Which documents do I need for NEET counselling 2026?

Keep your NEET scorecard and admit card, Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, a photo ID (Aadhaar), category/EWS and PwD certificates if applicable, a domicile certificate for state quota, and several passport-size photographs ready.
