The National Medical Commission (NMC) has just answered that for 2026-27 by releasing its official seat matrix, and the number has grown noticeably compared to last year. These colleges have been asked to submit an Electronic Bank Guarantee to MARB within seven days of the notice, essentially a financial assurance tied to the college meeting its stated commitments.

The Letter of Permission (LoP), which is the document that formally authorises a college to admit students, is issued only after this bank guarantee is verified. In practice, this means a small number of newly listed seats could see last-minute changes if any college fails to complete this step in time, which is why it is worth double-checking a college's final LoP status before counselling choice-filling closes rather than relying solely on the initial seat matrix.

What the latest NEET UG result numbers add to the picture

Alongside the seat matrix, updated NEET UG result data shows roughly 11.21 lakh candidates qualified out of about 20 lakh who appeared, meaning just over half of all test-takers cleared the exam this cycle.

At the very top end, 138 candidates scored 690 marks or above. Among this group, more than 93% were first-time NEET UG appearers and 99% fell in the 17-19 age bracket, reinforcing that top scores overwhelmingly come from students attempting the exam straight after school rather than after multiple repeat attempts.

The result data also shows more than 58% of all qualified candidates are women, and women qualified at a slightly higher rate (56.8%) than men (55.1%) among those who appeared. This has a real bearing on counselling dynamics in states with women's quota seats or women-only medical colleges.
