If you cleared the Re-NEET exam held on June 21, the real work of turning that score into an MBBS or BDS seat begins now. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which runs the All India Quota (AIQ) and central institute counselling for NEET UG, opens registration for 2026 counselling on August 5 and keeps the window open until August 12, 3 pm. This is the stage where you create your counselling account, upload documents, pay fees, and eventually list out the colleges and courses you want — so getting the basics right early avoids last-minute stress. Missing this registration window, even by a few hours, can mean losing an entire round of allotment.

Register on mcc.nic.in between August 5 and August 12 (3 pm), keep your documents and fee ready in advance, and start choice filling as soon as it opens on August 6 — delays here can cost you a full counselling round.

Who this counselling round covers

This registration is for candidates competing in the 15% All India Quota, seats at central universities (Delhi University, AMU, BHU and Jamia Millia Islamia), AFMC, ESI, all AIIMS, JIPMER, and B.Sc Nursing programmes. Deemed university seats are also covered, but under a separate, higher fee structure — more on that below.

State quota seats (roughly 85% of government MBBS/BDS seats in most states) are counselled separately by each state's own authority, so don't confuse this MCC round with your state counselling timeline. Many aspirants register for both, since a candidate is eligible for AIQ seats regardless of home state, while state quota is limited to domicile or specific eligibility rules.

How to register — step by step

The process is straightforward but needs your NEET Roll Number, Application Number and Date of Birth handy, along with a set of scanned documents.

  • Go to mcc.nic.in and click 'NEET UG Counselling 2026' under Candidate Activity
  • Enter your NEET Roll Number, Application Number, and Date of Birth to create your login
  • Upload your NEET UG scorecard, a valid photo ID, Class 10 and 12 certificates, photograph, signature, and category/special-category certificates (if applicable)
  • Complete registration and pay the applicable registration and security fee
  • Log in with your application number and password to begin filling college and course choices

Fees you need to keep ready

The registration and security fee differs by category, and there's a separate, much higher structure if you're also considering a deemed university seat. If you're applying to both deemed and regular participating institutes, you only pay the higher of the two fee structures — not both.

CategoryRegistration Fee (non-refundable)Security Deposit (refundable)
UR/EWS₹1,000₹10,000
SC/ST/OBC/PwD₹500₹5,000
Deemed universities (all candidates)₹5,000₹2,00,000

Round 1 timeline at a glance

Every date in this cycle matters because choice filling, locking and allotment happen in quick succession. Note that the fee payment window on August 12 closes at 6 pm even though registration itself closes at 3 pm — pay early rather than at the deadline.

Using MCC's own data to gauge your chances

Before you finalise your choice list, MCC's website lets you look at previous years' Composite Allotment Lists under Medical Counselling → Undergraduate (Previous Years). This shows which rank got which college and course in earlier rounds, plus opening and closing ranks and category-wise cutoffs in the Downloads section.

Treat this only as a rough guide. Seat numbers, reservation changes, and the number of candidates registering can shift year to year, so a rank that got a particular college last year is not a guarantee this year. Use it to shortlist a realistic range of colleges rather than to fix your expectations.

When can I start filling college choices?

Choice filling opens August 6 and stays open until August 13, 11 am. Choice locking runs from August 12, 4 pm to August 13, 11 am — locking your final list is strongly advised so it isn't left to auto-lock defaults.

When will Round 1 results and reporting happen?

The Round 1 seat allotment result is expected August 17, 2026. Allotted candidates must report to their college between August 18 and August 22, and colleges will verify joining data by August 23.

Can I rely on last year's cutoffs to predict my seat this year?

You can use MCC's previous years' Composite Allotment List and category-wise cutoffs as a reference, but treat the numbers as indicative only — they don't guarantee the same outcome this year.

Bookmark mcc.nic.in, gather your documents today, and don't wait for the last hour of August 12 to register or pay fees — server load and payment gateway delays are common close to deadlines. MedAdmit will track the choice-filling window and Round 1 result closely, so check back before you lock your final college list.
