If you are a NEET UG 2026 candidate with Jharkhand domicile, the state has just opened its counselling process for medical seats under the 85% state quota. The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) is running this counselling for MBBS, BDS and BHMS admissions in government and private colleges within the state. Registration for the state merit list began on August 7, 2026, and the entire process — from merit list to Round 1 seat allotment — is scheduled to wrap up within about two weeks. This matters because missing any date in this window, especially registration or choice-locking, can cost you a seat you were otherwise eligible for.

Jharkhand NEET UG aspirants must register for the state merit list by August 11, 2026 (3 PM) and then lock Round 1 college choices by August 19 to be considered for the provisional seat allotment on August 22.

What this counselling covers

This is state-level counselling, separate from the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling run by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Under India's medical admission structure, 15% of seats in government colleges go to the AIQ pool (open to candidates from anywhere in India), while the remaining 85% of government seats — plus private and deemed college seats within the state — are filled through each state's own counselling body. In Jharkhand, that body is JCECEB.

So if you hold Jharkhand domicile and are eligible under the state's quota rules, this is the counselling round that decides your MBBS, BDS or BHMS seat within Jharkhand's colleges, distinct from and running in parallel to AIQ counselling.

Full schedule at a glance

The process runs in two linked stages: registering for the state merit list, and then registering and filling choices for Round 1 seat allotment. Each stage has a short, fixed window, so candidates should mark these dates clearly.

How to register and fill choices

The entire process is online, through JCECEB's official portal, jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in. Candidates need their NEET UG application number, roll number and a password to log in.

Before you fill choices, check your merit rank and category status carefully once the merit list PDF is published on August 12 — any discrepancy in category or rank should be flagged to JCECEB promptly, since this list is the basis for every seat allotment that follows.

  • Visit jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in and go to the NEET UG Counselling 2026 section.
  • Register for the state merit list within the August 7–11 window; use the same-day edit window on August 11 evening if you spot an error.
  • After the merit list is out on August 12, log in again during August 13–19 to register and lock your college and course preferences.
  • Use the August 20 editing window if you need to reorder or change choices before allotment.
  • Check the Round 1 result on August 22 and, if allotted a seat, report to the college with original documents between August 23 and 28.

Colleges and seats involved

This state quota counselling covers seats across Jharkhand's medical and dental colleges, including well-known government institutions such as Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, and MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, along with other government and private MBBS, BDS and BHMS colleges in the state.

Candidates should note that private college seats filled through this counselling usually carry a different, higher fee structure than government seats, and it is worth checking each college's fee notification before finalising your choice order.

What Jharkhand aspirants should do now

With a compressed timeline — merit list registration, publication, choice filling and allotment all happening within roughly two weeks — there is little room for delay. Candidates should have their NEET UG scorecard, category certificates, domicile proof and other documents ready in scanned form well before the registration window closes on August 11.

It also helps to prepare a realistic list of preferred colleges and courses in advance, ranked by your genuine preference and informed by previous years' closing ranks for each college, rather than deciding during the choice-filling window itself.
